A new series set in Scotland. At the start I stumbled over the Scottish words (I am Australian), but I managed to get the meaning.
Two disgraced detectives demoted and flung together was the start of this book. Hovering behind was Jasmine's stalker. But it all came together in a satisfactory way. An enjoyable team I am looking forward to the next in this series!
Final in the series…. WOW! If this isn't a book to brag about I don't know what is... I started it late last night. Never did I anticipate I would be closing the book at 1am left in complete shock... This book was insane! It was twisted, it was gripping but it was so darn good!
A brilliant start to a new series I really enjoyed it.
I loved the characters the gripping twists the fantastic plot
I couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down.
The Blood Promise is a new series with Detective Constables Jazzy Sloanki and Annie McQueen, both have been demoted from being Detective sergeants for separate disciplinary offences.
Together they are investigating a recent horrific murder of the parents of a young girls whose sixteenth birthday they should of been celebrating, it also is the same date as Jazzy’s birthday.
Connections are made between these murders and previous ones with the same method of their slaughter which are somehow linked to Jazzy and her unimaginably cruel childhood. This is a hard hitting crime thriller with graphic but well described scenes.
Eventually working well togetherJazzy and Annie are a formidable force. There are many twists and turns making this a riveting page turning read.
The characters took me a little while to warm to particularly Annie but slowly you realised although both are flawed characters with unimaginable painful private pasts together bring out the very best in each other.
An impressive start to a new series and I look forward with great anticipation to the next book.
My thanks to netgalley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
Meet the Jazz Queens.
With work-related issues, and attitude to spare, you don't want to get on the wrong side of demoted DCs Jazzy Solanki and Annie McQueen. Not if you know what's good for you.
When their less than competent boss DCI Dick (yes, really - Dick by name, and Dick by nature) starts making a complete hash of a horrific double murder, things click with the Jazz Queens.
With Annie's near-photographic recall of crime scenes, and Jazzy spotting connections between the killer and her persistent, unknown stalker, exactly what have they got involved with?
And can they solve it before the killer catches up with Jazzy?
Captivating, compelling, and brilliant
The Blood Promise by Liz Mistry is the first installment in a new Scottish crime series.
Imogen Clark wakes up on her 16th birthday to find her parents dead at the breakfast table, along with a message from their killer.
Detectives Jazzy Solanki and Annie McQueen join the investigation, but the more they discover, the more Jazzy suspects that the killing is a twisted message for her. Jazzy shares the same birthday as Imogen and believes that this is more than a coincidence.
Even though I could not connect with the two main detectives or any of the characters in this story, I will check out more by this author and this series to give it another go. The dialogue also felt weird to me; it seemed too forced, and the interactions between characters didn't flow naturally.
I will check out more books by this author. The story was good, and the ending was satisfying; I just need to read more in this series to determine if I can connect with the characters. I give this a 3.75 out of 5 stars (rounded to 4).

I was looking forward to reading this book, but it left me disappointed and it turned out far from enjoyable.
The combination of humour and the storyline just didn’t work and a similar scenario with another author stopped me reading his books..
Some will no doubt enjoy the read, but sadly, it wasn’t for me
This book was a real twisted thriller. I loved it.
The characters were amazing they have great banter. The writing was good. I'm already hoping there's more in this series.
