I tried multiple times to read this book, but each time it kind of got forgotten abandoned in favor of other books. Don't get me wrong I thought I would love this book as it is a historial YA novel, about Shakespeare imagining his younger life and how he might have drawn inspiration from those days. But this book just didn't hook me. It was a slow go, and I just never did feel invested in the story the way that I wanted to be, after trying to pick it up for the 4th time, I just decided to finally just be done.
I've loved other books by this author, like Kate of the Lost Colony and The Two Girls of Gettysburg but this one just didn't do it for me. I will still read other books by her in the future, but I can only conclude that this one just wasn't for me.
This book was promising for a Shakespeare-lover. But overall, it felt predictable and un-memorable. There was nothing I necessarily didn't like about it, but I was not drawn to it in any particular way.
The characters felt prescribed and I knew exactly where the story was going; for some, this may be a welcome comfort, but for me, I wanted just a little bit more intrigue and surprise in the story.
