This was a fun, quick read! Expected it to be a series but was pleasantly surprised when it ended in one volume! I probably wouldn’t ever re-read this one but I enjoyed reading if the first time and thought it was cute even though it moves along kind of quickly.

Loving You When the World Ended is the story of a spoiled rich boy and an ex soldier turned hotel waiter who suddenly find themselves thrust together after a strange and abrupt apocalypse event.

I had really high hopes going into this, thinking it was going to be a fun, maybe more lighthearted take on the apocalypse story. Unfortunately, what I got was a bit disappointing. We are introduced very quickly to our two leads without much preamble or development of character beyond this one is the spoiled brat and this one is the grumpy realistic one. I wish there had been a bit more of a set up before whatever happened happened. I feel like there was a kind of vague explanation at the beginning of what event caused the apocalypse, but I honestly did not understand what happened and after that one brief conversation, there was no other real mention of it.

Near the end, we do get backstory for the waiter, which explains what at first seemed to be insta-love, and I actually thought the backstory was really cute and sweet. I feel like if we had gotten that at the beginning, this would have been a much stronger story. We also could have done without the slight bit of someone trying to force themselves on the other lead and the weird, bordering on uncomfy representation of PTSD.

All in all, it was a pretty cute read. I feel like it would have been better if a few of the story beats had been moved around and maybe some of the others tweaked a little bit. The art was really super cute though and I am really happy to have had the chance to read it! So this was NOT as serious as I expected it would be. This is pretty much solely a comedy, not the serious post-apocalypse drama interwoven with romance as the plot blurb makes it out to be. The plot is pretty loose, and each chapter is like a loosely connected "episode". The romance between the main couple is insanely slow and almost non-existent. There are no graphic [spice] scenes but it is either used as a joke or it is implied. The art was pretty cute, but it's not enough to hold up the lack of story.

This was quite an enjoyable BL manhua about a rich boy and a waiter at a restaurant who end up being stuck together after the apocalypse takes out humanity. It was set at the end of the world but the tone was much more comedic, with the rich boy being hilariously incompetent and constantly ill when not convenienced by all the luxuries he was used to, and the waiter being stoic and prepared for all eventualities. A funny combination of people and circumstances with the tone being just right. This may be one of my fave BL stories I have read in a while. Note on spice: there are some semi-spicy scenes but nothing particularly graphic happens.

This was a compact, stand-alone Chinese manhua. Yu Sen is a waiter at a hotel and Nuowan Qian is a spoiled heir of a billionaire staying there. To annoy his annoying girlfriend, Nuowan declares that even if the world ended, he’d rather choose Yu, and kisses him. Just then, the world ends, and they’re the only two left alive.

Nuowan is completely useless in an apocalypse, but Yu is a former soldier with survival skills. For a year, they scavenge useful items and survive. Yu has a full-time job keeping Nuowan alive. But when they learn other people might be alive, Nuowan leaves to find them, which causes the pair to evaluate their relationship. It might be they’ve developed feelings.

For an apocalypse story, this was sweet and funny; for a romance, slow-paced and not at all spicy. But the ending was very satisfying. Illustrations were good.

This book has an interesting set-up throwing two complete strangers together into a post-apocalyptic setting, but I didn't find myself liking it as much as I thought I would. Given that the series is just a single volume, there's not a lot of room to work with when it comes to fleshing out characters and plot points, so a lot of the story is streamlined to focus on the relationship aspects. The setting and any worldbuilding outside of the world ended and we think we're the last two people alive is not developed at all, which I was disappointed with. The relationship itself is rocky and developed way too quickly, especially with one character going from not interested to I think i'm in love in the span of a few pages. Had this been a slightly longer series, I think there would've been enough space to more fully develop this story into something great, as it stands right now, there's not a lot of satisfaction from reading this book.

Nuowan has woken up to the end of the world and doesn't know what to do without someone to keep him in the spoiled lifestyle he's used to living. Enter Yu Sen.

This was a lighthearted comedy end of the world manga with a bit of romance sprinkled in. It was easy to read with some funny moments while the two main characters try to survive the end of the world. Overall, it didn't change my life but it was fun to read.

Don't go into, Loving You When the World Ended expecting a serious dramatic post-apocalyptic story like the Zombie BL Undead, because it was none of that.
I got the vibe pretty quick and gathered that this was more a ridiculous comedy about a couple of guys stuck together at the end of the world then a romance. Once I lowered my expectations it was an ok read with some really funny art. Just be warned that it does that typical old school BL thing where dubcon and "but we are both straight guys" are played up for laughs. But if you can't tolerate that or the old "dumb prissy guy is protected by the competent masculine guy" trope, than you might want to just skip this one.

This was super cute! I like the wholesome feeling. Very optimistic and positive while remaining a BL comic, at the end of the world? Amazing. The focus on connection, humanity, redemption was excellent. The fact that there was also a cute romance subplot was fun too. Great work would read more.

I was not a fan of this title. It's got issues of dubious consent and sexual assault. The personalities of the characters were unbelievable and it just felt contrived.

I strongly disliked the rich kid main character and found his entitled attitude beyond irritating and unrealistic given the circumstances. There were parts of it played for comedy and it just fell flat.

This one was sillier than I expected and some readers are going to really enjoy that. For me, I like my apocalypse/dystopian/end of the world stories to be a little more gritty and realistic, but this was fun for a quick read.

I assumed this would be a drama given its post-apocalyptic setting, but it's actually more of a comedy. It's a fun read in a dumb rom-com way if you don't take it too seriously.

Post-apocalyptic rom-com that doesn't take itself too seriously, which is good because it wasn't great. There are a couple funny moments thrown in here and there but overall I felt this missed the mark. It felt like the author tried to include every yaoi trope they could think of into one book and it just did not work for me at all. There was potential there, Yu Shen was a decent enough MC, but I didn't really care for the story and Nuowan was annoying with very little in the way of redeeming qualities. This was the second title I've read by Gene and it will probably won't be the last, I'm definitely not rushing out to get more.

This story was adorable and highly enjoyable,ots the end of the world and love comes in many forms, the couple made face their own struggles and it makes me happy to read the next book when it come out

I got to halfway through this book and was enjoying it but then there was a nonconsensual scene and I had to DNF it.

Did not like this one at all -- the concept sounds like a gag manga, the execution smells of old-timey yaoi, and the worldbuilding is as flimsy as they come. By the time the story wraps up, you will be hard pressed to remember that the apocalypse was the premise of the story, because they are just convenience props for proximity effects.

Super cute manga set in a high school. I enjoyed it, though I don't think it is my cup of tea in the long run.

The story felt a little rushed and stilted but was also cute. The two main characters bond comes from living out the apocalypse together but it’s like the back story isn’t quite there to give all the butterflies.

This one was a cute romance, but I did want more of the apocalyptic aspect. Both of the main characters weren't terribly fleshed out, especially with this being a standalone. I would have loved to delve more into their year together before finding other survivors. But overall, I enjoyed this.

The art is really nice, and the story is short and funny, although, at times, the funny falls to the cringe side personally.
