This is supposed to be a romcom but I went into it for the dystopian setting, so I took it too seriously and therefore did not enjoy it very much. Once I realized it was never going to be serious, I liked it better, but I still wouldn't read it again. It was fine for a one-and-done if you're not too nitpicky.

The grammar in this book needed better editing. There are innumerable comma splices.

Though this is supposed to be a queer romcom, this book holds the outdated views of yaoi manga of yesteryear, where the two leads insist they are heterosexual even though they have feelings for one another. Homophobic dialogue in gay manga is so dated it's just embarrassing at this point and I was so disappointed to see it.

The setting was pretty fun and not something you see a lot in BL manga. If I'm reading a romance, I need it to be in a genre other than contemporary or I'll get so bored. I need something supernatural or futuristic or apocalyptic, and this book did deliver there. But I probably would not read this again or recommend it because of the editing issues, toxic masculinity/homophobic viewpoints on display, and the tone being lighter than I would want in a dystopian setting. That's on me for wanting to read it based on the fact that it was an apocalyptic setting without realizing it was supposed to be a romcom.

Beautiful art but the story and character development felt really rushed. It definitely needed more than one volume.

I got an ARC of this book.

The romance portion is very minimal. It was very forced. The two guys aren't openly queer, they only kiss because of a fight with a woman. Then it just spirals from there. The waiter just keeps kissing the other rich kid for no real reason. They fight about it. It was just very off putting.

The world building was minimal as well. I was starting to get really into it when more characters were introduced, but then the ending just made me lose what interest I had. It felt like there was so much that was unexplained that it was just a romance. But since the romance was very unromantic, it wasn't much to go on.

It was a cute attempt at an end-of-the-world story, but it felt rushed. The characters needed more time to develop. The art was good though.

Oh dear. I hate to be hard on this graphic comic because it was sweet and well drawn, but....
I'm not sure if the intention was to be a LGBTQ graphic novel or just show how at the end of the world we should all love each other. The interaction between the 2 main characters was at times "cringe worthy". I think the author may not have ever considered a same sex relationship or even been in love because the things the characters said to each other could be considered very offensive.
Not high on my list.
Thanks to @netgalley for the opportunity to read this eArc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Loving You When the World Ended is part of a new batch of Taiwanese BL (MLM) comics put out by Media Do and Yuzu Comics. It's the story of a sudden end of the world (literally, the MC wakes up, "What's going on?" "Probably an apocalypse." had me chuckling) and two guys who find themselves alone. It's got the usual tropes of "we're both men!" "do I LIKE like him??" and another person coming onto one of the main dudes pretty strongly for the other main dudes to realize his ~feelings~, but it was pretty funny and I had a good time.

This title too is plagued by clunky translations and some sort of messy SFX in some places so I really hope MediaDo/Yuzu Comics fixes that in future Taiwanese comics licensing.

Jumps right into the apocalypse lol I liked the humor in this one. Perfect for reader who like a spoiled MC. There's some non-con events that aren't graphic or extreme but may not be enjoyable to all readers so i feel like that should be mentioned.

The story focuses on Nuowan Qian and Yu Sen as they find their footing in a post-apocalyptic world. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Gene released a second book, though the story is a completely different genre compared to The Light Conjurer. I love this author's illustrations; they do a great job with conveying emotion on cartoon and chibi characters. This story has a stronger focus on comedy, and the plot isn't as strong as I'd like it to be. It felt rushed, but it's a 146 page story so it's inevitable. The worldbuilding is nicely done, and I loved seeing snippets of the side characters' lives and what happened to them after the main story.

This has its comedic moments in an apocalyptic world where two guys tries to survive.

It did feel somewhat rushed and there could have been more character development and depth to them. The pacing was fast so I did not connect much with the characters or story. However, the concept and premise seemed interesting.

The art is also nice!

This was a quick, fun read with fantastic art. It follows two guys as they try to survive after the world ends. Yu Sen is ex military and Nuowan is a spoiled rich kid who can’t survive on his own. Even though it’s lighthearted and funny, there were a lot of really sweet moments. I really loved seeing Yu Sen take care of Nuowan, even if he could be annoying and ungrateful at times. There were a few things I found problematic and awkward, but overall I enjoyed the story. There were many times I felt emotional for these two and was rooting for their relationship.

This is an apocalyptic book about two boys who think they are the last humans left alive. They have been together by themself for two years and eventually find out that there are others alive.

This was a good story. It does focus more on the characters than the apoclies itself. Would definitely love to see where it goes from where it ended but could also see it being a stand alone.

The art in this Manga was very well drawn. I really enjoyed the artwork.

I like the art because it really gets the comedic elements right, but that's about the only thing I can say about this one.
The story of two apocalypse survivors feels rushed as if the author is just trying to get to the comedic parts and wasn't sure how to connect them. Nuowan is so spoiled that he comes across as completely ungrateful and undeserving of everything Yu Sen does for him.
It has some good scenes, but it's sadly nothing special.

This story caught me off guard, I wasn't really expecting this by the cover.
I would have liked to have seen more of the romance between the characters develop, but I liked the relationship they had, in which they depended a little on each other, one to survive and the other to not feel lonely.
The art is fantastic and makes the reader feel the emotions of the characters and the story.

This is the 2nd book I read from this author and they clearly don't disappoint. I'm so happy I've discovered them here.

In a post-apocalyptic world two men fall in love with each other and their story couldn't be any cuter.
I loved the art style a lot and the way Yu cared for Nuowan all this time.
It had the right amount of humour, was easy to follow and very hard to put aside.
Huge recommendation for any BL fans out there!

Sort and sweet story depicting the love between an ex army waiter and a spoiled rich kid at the end of the world.

The story while cute was very rushed and there seemed little point in the chapter other than to signify a time jump. Attempts at campy humour throughout but due to the shortness of the story fell rather flat. So many tropes were shoe-horned into this enemies to lovers, grumpy x sunshine, misunderstanding, slow burn. None of it was given any time to play out and my investment it the characters was not given time to grow.

The art was cute and pleasing through but was let down by rushing what was an exciting concept in theory.

Thank you to NetGalley and Media Do International, Inc. / YUZU Comics for an eArc of "Loving You When the World Ended" in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

I picked this up as I saw queer romance set in a dystopian cityscape and knew I wanted to try it. In this manga an apocalypse sees spoiled Nuowan and skilled hotel worker Yu Sen literally thrown together when the world very suddenly ends and tracks them over the coming year or two as they fight to survive in this new reality.

The premise is something that absolutely appealed to me, I love dystopian fiction and this was a new approach to it for me in a manga context. Unfortunately it just didn't work for me. I found Nuowan tiresome and annoying and there were some scenes that absolutely raised the cringe factor - the suppository scene.

I love darker manga so I think the mixture of humour and light-heartedness mixed with a dystopia/apocalypse theme was not one that I ultimately enjoyed.

This will absolutely find an audience who love all of these elements but for me it didn't work but I can appreciate what it is doing and the story that it is telling.

After fighting with his girlfriend Nuowon kisses the waiter infront of him, declaring that even if the world ended, he’d rather be with the waiter than with her. 5 minutes later he’s waking up in the middle of the apocalypse, and the only person around him is the same waiter.

This story was very cute and funny. I found the scenes between Nuowan and Yu to be entertaining and enjoyable. This is a nice cozy read, something for right before bed. I would be really interested in a story Qingwu and Xiaoyue!

4 out of 5 stars

I am usually not a fan of the more humorous apocalyptic stories (or really apocalyptic themes in manga in general) but this one was so fun other than like two moments. The cover definitely gives off a completely different vibe but I am glad this one didn't take itself so seriously! There were two moments I had to put it down for because of the secondhand embarrassment and I could've gone my whole life without the pill scene, my god. I am also not a smut reader so I didn't enjoy the "spicy" scenes but they were thankfully short and I don't blame adult writing for having adult content in it. Overall, its unfortunately short but I had such a fun time reading it and I would definitely pick up more from this author.
