Whoa! I was not expecting this wonderfully dark read when I started.

Thorn definitely lived on the dark side. He had all the fierce attributes that I crave in a hero including a bit of stalking and the “mine” mentality. He was a scary dude even to a reader like myself that enjoys mixing in a bit of darkness every now and then. Alana intrigued me as much as Thorn did. She was the complete opposite of him, bright and shiny hiding her intellect and true purpose behind her smile.

While I loved both Alana and Thorn as separate characters, when they were together they were explosive. Their interactions lit my Kindle on fire. They were white hot and went places that i never expected to see them go. I swear I had to turn the a/c down! This is not your vanilla retelling of Beauty and the Beast.

With all that was amazing with the main characters, it would have meant nothing to me without the wonderfully orchestrated storyline that went with them. This feels like a different world. One based on our current addiction with social media. I was definitely intrigued by the connection these characters had with their program servers and my interest continued to grow as the story progressed.

With the addition of suspenseful twists and turns, as well as amazing characters that I hope will receive their own stories, there is no denying that this book has superseded any that I’ve read by this author previously. Bring on the darkness Ms. Zanetti!

I really enjoyed this book! Dark romance is not typically my thing, but because of the author I really wanted to read it. It seems to me no matter what RZ writes I love! I wasn’t sure going into this one as there is a whole new world dynamic to understand, but just as she always does she helps you to understand it perfectly as you read. Now how to review without giving anything away because trust me, going into this without knowing anything is the best way. This dark beauty and the beast like romance is just an amazing story. The characters are wonderful and have very deep back stories. Lots of secrets and unusual family dynamics. Sexy and very entertaining.
At first I was a bit skeptical of our beast, Thorn, but somehow just like Alana, he managed to get me to fall for him. He is extremely alpha and dominant but it really works. Their relationship/story is complicated but so good and not predictable in the least. I highly recommend taking a chance on this one, it’s totally worth it!

As soon as I saw this book on NetGalley I knew I wanted to read this one. I've read Rebecca Zanetti's Scorpius Syndrome series and her Laurel Snow series en I really loved those books. And then I find out she wrote a fairytale retelling! A beauty and the beast dark fairytale retelling.
I'm happy to say that I really loved this book. The 'magic' system is really unique and modern and the characters are amazing and suprising. Thorn and Alana are perfect together.

'Call yourself whatever you want, I'm calling you mine'

I love beauty and the Beast inspired books, I really do. But there were too many things that were throwing me off.

One Cursed Rose is a dark romance, Beauty and the Beast retelling. Rebecca Zanetti combines elements of magic and romantic suspense too, making the story the perfect sizzling combination.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alana is the heir to the Aquarius social media empire. It doesn’t hurt that she has a special affinity to the magical aquamarine stones that make the whole endeavor hum. But when her father insists on marrying her off to a competitor to strengthen their company, Alana immediately looks for a way out of it. What she doesn’t realize is that secretive, beastly Thorn is obsessed with her, and will do anything, including kidnapping her, to keep her from marrying someone else. But Thorn is cursed, and he’s slowly freezing to death. Can the warmth Thorn feels with Alana save him? Or will she lose patience with his controlling ways?

I’m a longtime Rebecca Zanetti fan, and will read anything she writes. So while I don’t read much dark or mafia romance, I love a hot story with a morally gray hero and plenty of plot too. Alana and Thorn are intriguing characters, and far more than simply pieces of a fairy tale retelling. Alana has no patience for the patriarchal box people keep trying to put her into, but she can’t deny her connection to Thorn. And, along with their attest, their quips and banter are great too.

The world building here is the kind I like, where the plot runs full speed ahead and no one pauses to question any of the magical rules. Crystals and their powers play a key role, but I was so wrapped up in the romance that I didn’t fuss about the details.

Zanetti writes so well in so many different genres, it’s no surprise that she’s a natural with dark romance. One Cursed Rose is a fantastic story, and Alana and Thorn’s sizzling chemistry jumps off the page. If you are a fan of super hot fairy tale retellings, read this book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A good dark romance story with a unique plot and character development.

I don't have read anything like this.
It was so good.

Sizzling, hot tension served up on a platter by a possessive and protective man 🥵

Thorn is cunning and observant, and he now has Alana who occupies all of his thoughts. Thorn is determined to claim what is rightfully his.

Thorn's filthy mouth, his grabby hands and smitten heart made for a good read.

Slightly miss-genred: this is less on the dark side, and more of a romantic suspense with some magic elements.

If you're a fan of Parker S Huntington, L J Shen and Sadie Kincaid (but slightly paranormal) then you will enjoy this beauty & the beast dark romance story.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I read the book forgetting that it was beauty and the beast based. I was so into the storyline that I just kept reading and couldn’t stop! It felt like just a really juicy love story!! Well worth the read!

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! It is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, but only loosely in my opinion, Alana belongs to one of four families that control social media using crystals and magic. She is next in line and has a lot of responsibility, but little power. Her father actually controls everything and treats her like an employee. Alana is working with several friends to do secretly good.

Thorn is the head of one of the other families who control social media. Unlike Alana, most of his life is lived in secret. He has been watching Alana for a while. He takes Alana and claims her as his. But there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Thorn lets Alana go. Or does he? Betrayal and intrigue and twists all over the place!

I liked how the story focused on the main characters and their developing relationship. The side characters were interesting and I would be interested in reading their stories. I liked the action and the twists, I thought I knew what was going on, but I was definitely surprised. There was definitely some romance and hot, darkish scenes.

“One Cursed Rose” is a dark romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast that will leave you begging for more! 🌹

⭐️⭐️⭐️
It took me a little bit to get into the novel due to being confused about the crystals and having a hard time getting into it. I did really enjoy the plot about Thorn trying to save/protect kids from the bad guys.

My favourite retellings are beauty and the beast and this definitely didn’t disappoint. I did not expect that plot twist.
I’m unsure if I’ll continue this series due to the whole gems, crystals and social media platforms plot.

Warning there is graphic violence so be sure to read the trigger warnings before reading!

Thank you so much NetGalley, Rebecca Zanetti, and Kensington Books for the chance to read and review this e-arc in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions remain my own.

This was an interesting twist of new age with the crystals and modern tech. It was intriguing and has some good potential.
The character arcs were good, though I felt like I lost touch with them in the middle and then there was a rapid conclusion.
Overall I enjoyed the uniqueness of the world building and plot and would read the next book.

Alana is the sole heir to a media giant that is about to be taken over by an enemy. Her father wants to marry her off to the son of a competing family. She was rescued by Thorn, the head of the rival social media and he kept her in his castle to keep her safe...

I love Alana and Thorn. Terrific chemistry. Sexy and romantic at the same time. A lot of steam and sexiness. Love the plot and the action. A bit darker than this author's usual books but still a happily-ever-after.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

I don't fully get the concept but I really liked the writing and the nods to other classic fairytales from childhood. It was a good romance, the world building was just a bit confusing.

Warning : this book is a rather dark romance with scenes of violence (torture, etc.)

A book that leaves me with mixed feelings ...

This book was one of those I was really looking forward to and after receiving an ARC, I DEVOURED it ! I love Rebecca Zanetti’s books and the idea of her writing revisited fairy tales … I was SO excited !

EXCEPT

I think I wasn't the right audience for this romance ><

The universe was great and so original (I love this mix of technology and magic with the crystals which are powered by social networks) and I really liked the plot around this very dangerous virus but also certain murders (I have to admit I didn't see the end coming !)

BUT

I would have liked the universe to be more developed (understand where the crystals come from, see them more in action ...), the resolution of the plot was a a little too fast for me (I wanted more explanations and tension !) and I had difficulty getting attached to the characters (I would have liked a more badass Alana and a more human Thorn ... And the secondary characters deserved to be more visible !)

I think my main problem comes from romance. If you read mafia/dark romances, you will probably like this book but for me, who is not a fan of this type of romance, the relationship between Alana and Thorn blocked my reading. Thorn's BDSM stalker side didn't convince me AT ALL (the knife scene ... Uh NO !) and I found that Alana fell too easily under his spell despite all the red flags ><

In short, a book that I recommend for fans of dark romance and mafia romances but if you are a fan of Rebecca Zanetti but not of this type of romance, this book is probably not for you ><

I will read the sequel because I am intrigued by Scarlett in particular but this first book will not be one of my favorites unfortunately !

PS : to the publisher and Netgalley, thank you so much for the ARC =D

Thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley @netgalley for the e-arc. All Thoughts are my own.

Alana is the sole heir to Aquarius Social. Her fathers solution to the family business being dismanteled is to give her in marriage to create a coalition.

There’s nothing like assassination to cut short the best laid plans.

I don’t know if the dark romance I read is on the extreme end, or what, but I didn’t find this to be a dark romance. Maybe you could say it has some darker elements? But I wouldn’t go as far to say it was a dark romance. So, to say I felt misled is an understatement. I also couldn’t get into the idea of the gems powering the computers. I kept looking for an understanding of how this worked, but I felt the world building was lacking in this regard. I never could fully comprehend why they were so heavily relied on, or what their role fully was.

Now with all that being said, this book did have some elements I enjoyed. I loved the suspense elements of the story; they kept me wanting more and on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I also really enjoyed the dual points of view. Stories written this way are some of my favorite because I feel they fully allow me to be immersed in the story and get to know the characters.

This book is the first in a new series, and overall, I don’t think that it kept me invested enough to keep reading it. I do think that it was entertaining enough, just not so much that I care to continue.

I have a few mixed feelings about this one. The world-building was excellent, and I love the Black Mirror-social media-esque idea of popularity and influencers controlling everything… with “likes” and crystals powering things.
One of my main issues with this book was how quickly everything seemed to wrap up. The loose ends were tied up quickly at the end, and I felt like I had a bit of whiplash as the story concluded. It felt like some important things were glossed over, and it left me reeling a little.
That being said, will I look for the next book in this series? YES!

⭐️⭐️

before I begin this review I would like to say thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for this e-arc!

I want to start off by saying that I truly thought this was a fantasy novel, and not a dark romance when I began this so I was surprised to see the trigger warning at the beginning. regardless, I decided to give this one a try even though I don’t read dark romance. I went into it with an open mind and read it from start to finish.

overall, I don’t think this book was for me. frankly it felt too rushed, and there were so many plot points happening that felt unnecessary. because of the fantasy elements of this book I would’ve really enjoyed some extra time just getting into the world building. there were some really interesting and creative concepts to this book, however they didn’t develop in the ways that they could’ve. I also think with more context on the two main characters I would’ve enjoyed it more. we don’t really have any idea why Thorn is obsessed with Alana, just that he is. and quite frankly she gives little to no real pushback against this powerful man who is also her stalker and kidnapper.

upon reading the acknowledgment I do understand that this is the author’s first dark romance. I think for many people this book could be a thrilling and fun dark romance read. I do think this concept of this book could’ve been very captivating, however I don’t see myself picking up another book from this author at this time.
