DCI Jane and her crew have done it again with another intensely engaging story. They were given a puzzle with so little to go on, which had them searching and digging into the past for clues. Although it was intriguing, gripping, and delightfully captivating, I believed the Fox didn’t get her just reward.

This is another excellent novel by OMJ Ryan featuring DCI Jane Phillips . She and her team are investigating the arson attack on policemen and women, which looks like the work of Archie Pearson who was imprisoned twenty years ago for arson attacks. The killer who calls himself the Real Fire Starter goes viral that he is the arsonist and not Archie Pearson. This book also looks at corruption in higher places in the police force and keeps the reader enthralled until the final page!

My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this book which I have read as a Review copy. This review is based on my reading this book and is an honest unbiased opinion.

The series and the author are new for me and this happens to be the 11th book in a series.
I picked this book with an open mind, expecting a good story.
The protagonist and star of the show is in the Manchester police as a DCI, Jane Phillips who faces off this time around with an arsonist who is after places full of police people and links to a convicted local arsonist. The fresh look seems to pint to flawed evidence and the story starts with a fast pace.
Yes there are some familiarity for series characters but not too much to distract a new reader. The book can be read as a standalone although reading the other adventures will be a good experience.
Corruption in police set-up is not a novel premise but the story is well written and the corruption juxtaposed with the arson case and the current arsonist makes for an intriguing reading.
I would like to read some of Ryan's other stories about Jane.
Loved and recommended.

What a superb series of books this has turned into. We follow a team of detectives who have so much thrown at them it's a wonder they can function. I love a good detective team that work together to get things done.
I enjoy the function, the banter between the characters. The storylines are interesting and fresh. ~I have enjoyed each and every book so far and look forward to seeing what OMJ Ryan can deliver next. He has his work cut out to keep improving on this series.
Superb, addictive reading.

3.5 hearts

The Detective Jane Phillips series has a regular set of characters, some of them have a bit repetitive behavior if you've seen it over several books. Or at least, their personalities are consistent. Jane has been in the same position throughout the series and enjoys her work. She can get tired or frustrated or shaken like anyone who sees such horrors of death.

In the current big case, there is a firestarter who seems determined to kill cops. His methods seem very similar to another case from 17 years ago. Jane and her team do the usual investigating which seems smart enough but also very slow. They have the usual great support from Carter (Jane's boss) and the usual pressure and derision from Fox (Carter's boss). The team does get a bit further on an overall cop corruption case, also.

Personally, Jane is irritated by her partner, Sam, and they spend almost no time together. I'm not sure where that is going, but she seems attracted to another guy now. One of her team, Bov, is distracted by a health scare for his partner.

Overall, this was a quick, fun read. I found the writing of the personal aspects a bit stilted or typical cliche interactions. The action of the crimes and investigation steps kept me engaged. I enjoyed Deadly Inferno and wonder what is next for this favored series of mine.

Another fabulous book in this riveting series. I love the police characters, they seem so true to life, as does the dialogue between them. This is fast paced and very enjoyable with a brilliant ending.

Deadly Inferno is a great read and an excellent addition to the authors Detective Jane Phillips series.

I feel like I love and know the characters really well now and enjoyed being back with them and following their investigation into a fire that targets police officers and may link to a historic investigation - has an innocent man been wrongly convicted? I like the working rapport and friendships the team members have, they work well together and complement each other. Cannot stand Fox though. The authors writing style is engaging and always draws me straight into the story. I like that it is told mostly through Phillips from her investigation with some parts told by the fire starter, which gave more depth to the story and added to my enjoyment. The glimpses into the characters home and personal lives is a lovely touch. The story is fast paced and full of tension and suspense at times which certainly held my attention and interest throughout and I think the book has a fitting ending and I'm looking forward to the next one.

If you like good, solid police procedurals then this book and series is for you. If you're new to this author I'd suggest you read the books in order to get to know the characters from the beginning.

OMJ Ryans latest book Deadly Inferno is such a brilliant read!

YES!!!!! What a book. Being back with the team again was fantastic. Slotting right back into their roles, reading this feels like you are back with old friends, and you are kept on your toes. Someone is out there plotting and planning, harming police officers, Bov isn't himself, Fox is her same horrible (I'm being polite!) self. Who is behind the recent fires? has an innocent man served 17 years behind bars? There are a few people of interest, but time is running out. I loved this book! But please don't let it be the last one 🙏

I was absolutely delighted to receive this book from Netgalley having read all the rest of the series. Jane and her team are one of the best in the business, and they all work together just fine. However, there is one exception, a huge fly in the ointment - Fox. She is absolutely horrid and has no time for anyone or anything other than to further her career.

However, this time someone seems hell bent on getting even with the police, he’s setting fire to buildings where the police are having social evenings. He loves the flames and the screams. All the evidence and forensics point to it being Archie Pearson, but that doesn’t seem possible as he’s inside one of Manchesters prisons and has been for the past twenty years. Jane and her team have to find out who is behind all these crimes before it’s too late and an innocent man spends any more time in jail.

What follows is absolutely brilliantly written and I was so pleased with the outcome I could have hugged the author. I’m not saying anything more but would just say read the books in order because this will spoil the earlier ones.

Coupled with the fact Manchester is my place of birth and I was able to follow it round and knew all of the places.

My thanks to Netgalley and the author for the ARC. Please write another one quickly, I want to know more …..

I've been with this series ever since the first book was published back in 2019, and it's one of those detective thriller series that just keeps delivering. Deadly Inferno is already Detective Jane Phillips book number eleven, and there is still no sign of the series slowing down... In fact, this sequel offered a long-awaited development as well as an engaging and suspenseful detect thriller, and I literally couldn't stop reading. Addictive and extremely readable indeed!

Before I continue, I have to say that I personally wouldn't recommend reading this series out of order. Why? You will be missing out on a lot of character background, character dynamics and key events from the previous books, and you definitely won't appreciate the full impact of a certain extremely unlikeable character otherwise. Especially with the development on that front in Deadly Inferno... There are again more personal developments in this sequel as well, although a lot of focus goes to the arson case itself. This whole series is highly engaging though, so well worth your time if you need/want to catch up.

One of the things I love about this series is the banter between Jane Phillips and the rest of her team, and this sequel didn't let me down on that front. The banter helps balancing out the more serious topics, and I love the dynamics between the team members in general. My one complaint about this series has always been having to deal with Fox again and again, but it looks like my wish has finally come through on that front... I won't say more to avoid spoilers, but if you have been following this series you will be one happy camper by the end of Deadly Inferno.

The case in Deadly Inferno was different than usual with the focus on arson and the suspect targetting the police, and this made the sequel stand out to me. It was intriguing to learn more about the case, and I do always love a good suspect/killer POV... There are a couple twists along the way, although the case itself seems a bit easier than usual this time around. Not that I'm complaining, because the arson case is taken to the next level after certain reveals, and I was suddenly even more invested in the outcome.

The writing style itself is just as engaging as I’ve become used to, and somehow it is very easy to just keep turning page after page. The best part of this story was without doubt the long-awaited ending for me, which made me do a happy dance. Deadly Inferno is without a doubt one of my favorite Detective Jane Phillips sequels for that ending alone!

Another good book about detective jane Phillip and her team investigating a series of arson crimes. Someone is targeting the police by committing arson whenever there is an event that a large number of police are attending.
The mystery deepens for Jane and her team when the arson crimes seemed to be a copycat to those of Archie Pearson who is still in jail over arson he was convicted for 17 years ago. How could this be happening? Pearson has profoundly claimed his innocent all along and when Jane investigating begins to believe him her team must now solve the issue before more crimes are committed and find out why Pearson was wrongly committed for the crimes

I found this book to be very suspenseful and action-packed. The suspense kept me interested in reading through the book. The book is a good stand-alone read, however, after some research and learning that there are more books in the Detective Jane Phillips series, I will be putting those on my wish list and reading them in order. I will also reread this book.
I highly recommend this read. I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of Deadly Inferno, the eleventh novel to feature DCI Jane Phillips of Greater Manchester Police.

An arsonist is setting fire to venues full of off duty police officers. The forensics suggest a link to Manchester’s most famous arsonist, Archie Pearson, who has been in prison for the last seventeen years. When Jane and the team dig deeper they begin to suspect that Pearson was framed using flawed evidence. How deep does the corruption run?

I thoroughly enjoyed Deadly Inferno, which is a fast moving novel with some unexpected twists and turns. The novel is told mostly from Jane and the investigation’s point of view, but there are enough contributions from #realfirestartermanchester as he dubs himself before going viral to make it very interesting.

The novel has a great premise, starting with why someone is targeting the police and why now when Pearson has been in prison for so long. Obviously a copycat or maybe not. The author then introduces Pearson’s case and the whiff of corruption to the mix, so there is never a dull moment. The investigation starts slowly as they have very little to go on, but they work what they have and gradually they find a suspect. This comes earlier than in some novels and morphs from investigation to hunt as they try to stop him. The final showdown is both sad and satisfying in what it reveals and the last chapter gave me a tremendous amount of schadenfreude in its neat twist.

I like Jane and her team, who work well together and are never less than dedicated. They are united in their distaste for the psychopathic Chief Constable, Kim Fox, who keeps the pressure on, but is somewhat subdued, i.e. not on a rampage as usual. Jane is having relationship difficulties and this must be the first novel I have ever read where the detective is unhappy with the number of hours their partner is working, another neat twist.

Deadly Inferno is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Enjoyed the read and would have given it five stars, but there were a couple of things that prevented me from doing so. One was the ending, as I expected a bit more, while there was an instance that something I thought would have produced a bit more didn’t, but perhaps that was just me.
Neither of those things would prevent me from reading more from this author..

I've read the first four books of this series and I enjoyed them a lot. Now that I've read this book I just realized I have to read the rest of the series. So I've put them on my wishlist. I can absolutely recommend this series: good stories, nice charachters, enough suspense to keep you reading. Thumbs up!
I received an advance review copy for free and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.

Ugghh. Another English Police procedurals novel with no mystery. Endless dialogue coupled with infinte scene descriptions of the mundane. This was as boring as a box of cat food.

Rating: .99/5
