This was a quick read, starting with the summer a girl goes missing then skipping forward to a year later where the investigation has dwindled and leads have gone cold. I liked the snippets of story from the point of view of 'The Girl' and the way things unfolded to become bigger than one person.
The main character Paige is seventeen for most of the book, yet sometimes she acted bratty or naively and it made her seem more like fourteen. The jealousy over Dylan seemed ridiculous and Paige did get caught up in some teen drama, but I guess she is young and in no way a seasoned investigator. It just wasn't my favorite part.
The mystery was interesting and further reaching than I had guessed. The ending was a bit unbelievable, but not a bad wrap up overall.
I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job embodying a teen girl and changed her voice enough to help differentiate some of the characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for the copy.

Thank you Netgalley for this arc!
I haven’t read a mystery book in a while, and this book made me realize why i enjoy them so much. This book had so many twists and turns that i didn’t see coming. I honestly enjoyed how this book had such good summer vibes. This book had good pacing and i looked forward to finding out the mystery. This was a classic “looking a for a missing girl” mystery, but it had some unique aspects. It wasn’t mind blowing or anything, but it was a fun read and i was invested.
Wow, did this book have a chokehold on me. I always enjoy books where the characters need to solve the mystery on their own. I picked this book alone for the description of the book. It reminded me a lot of The Good Girls Guide To Murder! What I enjoyed the most was how it kept me engaged and wanting more. Every time Paige started to lean toward a different suspect, I was right there with her.
The book is about two families who vacation together every summer. Paige the main character, looks forward to summer because of Audrey and Dylan. Every summer they spend together the closer they get. Audrey and Paige are best friends who are always together until one summer changes everything. Paige has always had a crush on Dylan, and this year he is showing the same interest. Audrey starts acting weird and changing plans with Paige to where they are almost strangers. Then all of a sudden, Audrey goes missing and no one knows where she is. This is where everyone’s lives start to change and they grow apart.
As the book develops you continue to get wrapped up in each character's lives and the journey they go on. By the end of the book, I thought every character that was involved was well-developed and made me love most of them. The ones I didn’t like, I just felt bad for them because of who they were deep down as a person.
Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me to participate in listening to this ARC book! Thank you, Chelsea Ichaso, for writing such a well-developed book with a great storyline! I was truly engaged the whole time! Thank you, Amy McFadden, who narrated the book. You delivered the book with engaging tones that helped make the book even more thrilling!
It is written down but it's not *written*, you know. Something is missing from between the lines.
The last summer part happens so quikcly that I don't really care about Paige and Dylan's relationship. And they still don't really make me care when they're trying to reconnect throughout the book.
There are kind of a lot of new people popping up as suspects. Doesn't really let the reader connect the dots because many of the dots are not even present. This can be done well, like A Good Girl's Guide To Murder also plays around with putting the blame on people, but that makes sense at the end. Here I think some more development would've been benefitial, just going a bit more in depth.
It's clear that the story is mapped out very well and the author knows where the lines should lead. But can you share more of it with the class😭
Thinking of Audrey in different ways was interesting, love me some unreliable narration. The realest thing about the whole story was Paige's devotion and confusion towards her. Dylan's devotion was also cute actually. It would translate better on screen, cinematography would elevate the story BY A LOT.
The concluding action was good, the reveal and the "dungeon". After that everything felt unticlimactic.
Would recommend for people who have book hangover after finishing the agggtm series <3
This was an interesting mystery! I was interested throughout and was excited to see how it ended. I'm a new fan of Chelsea Ichaso!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
This book was so good. It gave The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Good Girls Guide to Murder in all of the best ways. The small town vibes were great and really added to the uneasy feel of the storyline. I really loved Paige and Dylan and seeing them come together to solve the mystery of Audrey. I liked how the plot played out and the who who did it. I just wish there was a bit more after it all. But overall, super enjoyable, really liked!
Thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the ARC of The Summer She Went Missing.
I loved this audiobook. Amy McFadden was a perfect fit for Paige's character and personality.
This book starts as very The Summer I Turned Pretty, without the whole both brothers chasing the same girl bit. Audrey- Paige's best friend has an older brother that is finally returning Paige's attention, but last summer Audrey went missing which quashed any budding romance between her and Dylan. Told from the past summer's and the current summer's perspectives.
Dylan and Paige feel as though not enough was done by the police to investigate Audrey's disappearance, so they start to look into why she might have gone missing themselves. But getting closer to Audrey puts them in more danger.
This book takes twists and turns you will not see coming and had me guessing who contributed to Audrey's disappearance until the end, as secrets are slowly unearthed along the way. These secrets lead further and further into the underbelly of this beautiful beach town. This book was such a fast read for me- I could not stop listening.
One thing that Ichaso did incredibly well was the romance subplot. These can really annoy me when I am reading as it distracts from the actual problems abounding though the main plot line. This romance subplot did not do this, and nor was it annoying. In fact both Paige and Dylan would frequently cast their own feelings aside for the good of finding Audrey.
I would recommend this to any YA mystery reader. Especially the audiobook version.
The Summer She Went Missing is a perfect summer read for fans of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. There are twists and turns and I honestly could not see the ending coming! Reading as an adult, there are times when the teenage character's angst is just too much. But it is a good investigative story that will keep you hooked until the end.
This was my first read by this author so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. As it turns out, I was a little bit worried, but I shouldn’t have been. This book was really good and I found myself surprised by the ending. Definitely not something that happens on the regular.
After the last two thrillers I read were a bit of a bust, I wasn’t sure where this one was going to land with me. Would I like it or would I be annoyed by it like the others? So when this one started, I expected the clues and red herrings to be meterly doled out like the others. BUT with this one, it was much different. The story was just told and the twists kept coming. I did figure one thing out, but the huge twist on why was crazy. And let me just say, that one girl was brave af because how she was doing this was mind-blowing. And because of that, you’ll be so focused on her, that you won’t see the real culprit coming. Or at least I didn’t. I was too preoccupied. And with that being said, it felt like it came out of nowhere. And I loved that. Every time an author can get me, I love the book a little bit more. Because with the amount of thrillers and horror I read, I can usually always catch it. So this time when I didn’t, I was happy.
The characters were kind of weird. The main character and her missing best friend’s brother finally got together and they were the ones trying to solve this murder. And while that’s not unusual, I found it weird that they were doing this right after he ghosted her. I am all for second chances, but they didn’t even have a first chance and he messed it up. And then she went back to him? No. And like, Audrey, all this secrecy over THAT? All of that could have been avoided. But like, bffr you had a whole like other phone with a bookshelf covering it? You knew all of it was wrong and you still did it smh
I did feel like the ending was rushed tho. It was like they found who it was and then it was like the epilogue. She didn’t show how the one person reacted when the other person showed up. They didn’t show how that one person felt after what they did, nothing. And I know it’s a me thing, but that annoyed me lol I want to know how that person felt and what they thought of everything in that moment too. And while I get it, it was probably just supposed to be focused on Audrey and Paige, I wanted to know more and like maybe take in the scene with them. It was more of a telling what’s happening vs showing us and me putting myself in the story if that makes sense.
The narrator gave a good performance. I don’t remember just absolutely loving it, but it wasn’t bad. In fact I remember thinking that she had to be new because she sounded a bit nasally. But as it turns out, she has a really extensive backlist. And looking at what she’s done, I can’t believe even with her huge catalog, I was still able to miss her. So looks like I have some catching up to do now.
This was a super cute and actually thrilling book. I was a bit worried because I had never read this author before, but I have to say, I looked up what other books they have and I’m ready to get my hands on the other thrillers written by Ichaso.
This is an YA murder mystery where the best friend goes missing - and Paige and Audrey´s family are trying to get on with their lives. But there is more than one girl missing and Paige also starts to learn things and finding clues. She realizes that she herself maybe can investigate amongst local youth to get some insider info...So, accompanied with Audrey´s brother Dylan (whom she is in love with), Paige starts the sleuthing. But she needs to be careful as not everybody is a good person there...
I liked the story, even if there is nothing standing out. But while this is a classical YA, I found it fun and quick read and I enjoyed the novel!
The narration was good, it enhanced the experience.
Paige spends each summer at the lake house owned by her best friend, Audrey, and her family. One summer, Audrey seems increasingly distant and unlike herself - putting both emotional and physical distance between herself and Paige. That summer, Audrey disappears. The next summer, Paige teams up with Audrey's brother to hopefully find answers - and Audrey herself.
I absolutely loved this audiobook - I thought the narrators did a great job and the pacing was great. I was craving a summer-y book that kept me engaged, and this book definitely scratched that itch. I didn't see the ending coming (at all), and while you have to really suspend your beliefs in reality for parts of this book, I did not think that took away from the book's enjoyability. I would definitely recommend!

Summary: Paige Redmond has always felt lucky to spend her summers in Clearwater Ridge, with lazy days sunning at the waterfalls and nights partying at the sprawling houses of the rich families who vacation there. The Covingtons are one of these families, and beautiful, brilliant Audrey Covington is Paige’s best friend. And last year, when Audrey’s crush-worthy brother Dylan finally started noticing Paige, she was sure it would be the best summer ever.
Except Audrey didn’t seem quite like herself. Then one night, she didn’t come home. Though Audrey wasn’t the first girl to disappear in Clearwater Ridge, she left behind more lies than clues. Now, one summer later, her case has gone cold, and nobody, least of all Paige, can make sense of what happened.
When Paige stumbles across a secret hidden in Audrey’s room, however, it changes everything she thought she knew about last summer. She and Dylan set out on their own investigation, discovering things even the police don’t know about the people of Clearwater Ridge. But tracking down missing girls—girls who might be beyond saving by now—means entering a world far darker than Paige has ever imagined. And if she isn’t careful, she’ll become the next girl to vanish.

My thoughts: Thank you @netgalley and @sourcebooks for the advanced copy, this YA thriller came out earlier this month! I loved the audio of this one, I thought the narrator was fantastic. Overall I thought the story was good but not great. It was a quick mystery. I like how it was divided into almost two books. I figured out who the villian was pretty easily and found the protagonist to be annoying at times. This one felt very YA to me in some parts. But this one would be a quick summer/spring thriller for me to read on the beach. Overall it was good but not great!

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.
I liked this one- decent characters and an interesting plot. It felt a little slow at times but not enough to deter me. The narrator did a good job.
This was the first book I have listened to by Chelsea Ichaso. I'm really glad I was able to listen to this book. I look forward to reading her other books. Amy McFadden did a really good job narrating this story. She made it easy to follow and held my attention through out the book. This is a great YA thriller that is fast paced with a twist and secrets that will shock you. I would definitely recommend this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for allowing me to listen to this ARC for my honest opinion.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ALC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I went into this completely blind and it was everything I wanted in a YA thriller! It was gripping and had a lot of twists and turns. Admittedly, some of them I guessed but there were a couple I was pleasantly surprised by. I enjoyed the plot and the pacing of this. I didn't think it dragged, it was very much flowing al0ng nicely. I also enjoyed the different POVs and timelines. The characters, although a few were unlikable, I thought were well done. Many were flawed and kept secrets from everyone, which was incredible believable given a majority of the characters are teenagers.
I think the narrator did I brilliant job with this. They kept my attention throughout the whole story.
My only gripe is that the romance fell a bit flat. I get that she had a crush on her best friends brother (which personally is a line not to be crossed) but it didn't really make sense for it to be explored. I think the two characters were just lacking chemistry. I also wanted to know who the other guy was that was interested in Paige.
If you are a fan of the A Good Girls Guide to Murder series then you should definitely check this out.
Definitely a YA novel with lots of teenage tropes but still a fairly solid story.
The way the families got to summering together is tenuous at best, but obviously we had to have some way for the girls to become besties and, of course, for the "in love with my best friend's brother" stereotype.
Good ending, I enjoyed the characters, wrapped up nicely.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for my advance copy of this audiobook
Woah, this was such a great audiobook! I do feel like the book would be a little slow, but the audiobook was done so well and had me glued to my seat!
Really enjoyed! Wasn’t sure if I would really be able to get into YA but I did. Slow start but glad I stuck with it because it was a good listen. I wish there was more of an explanation to “why” what actually happened, happened. I thought I had things figured out but the twists kept coming!
The Summer She Went Missing was a pretty decent YA thriller/suspense novel. There were a lot of twist and turns I didn’t expect and the ending I didn’t see coming - which is always good for a thriller! It is definitely a YA book which isn’t always my first choice, but did enjoy this. The narrator did a decent job too! Thank you to NetGalley, Tantor Audio and the author for allowing me to listen in exchange for a review this audiobook!
this book was archived before i could get to it. So i wasn't able to give it a genuine review. my rating is based on good faith and the description.
