Overall I enjoyed this YA thriller. I found the characters to be really age appropriate and the story was a great intro to thriller for a young adult to read. i also thought the narrator did a great job. I think the only thing that i didn't love was Paige's random commenting of things people said from her job at the retirement home. It felt like it was trying to be cutesy but it just felt disconnected from the rest of the story. I will definitely be checking out other works that come from this author!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book. I enjoyed the narrator, Amy McFadden. She’s one of my favorite narrators, which is why I was initially drawn to this book. I enjoy a good psychological thriller and this one didn’t disappoint. It’ll keep you guessing throughout the whole book. Paige is a really likable character who goes the distance to help find her friend that had gone missing the summer before. This was my first book by Chelsea Ichaso and I look forward to reading some of her other books.
Thank you NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to listen to this book prior to publication.

Paige and her family always spend summer vacations at the river with another family they’re friends with. But Audrey, Paige’s best friend, is distant this year and seems to be keeping secrets. Audrey’s brother Dylan finally notices Paige, and Paige finds herself forgetting everything else. One night, Audrey doesn’t come home. A year later, the families come together once more with Audrey still missing. Paige is convinced that there’s something they all missed and sets out to find answers. But Audrey isn’t the only girl who’s gone missing, and Paige feels that if she isn’t careful, she might just be next.
The story is told from dual POVs with dual timeline, though the secondary POV/timeline is much less prominent. The secondary timeline is told from the POV of "the girl" and provides some interesting backstory while the MC is trying to conduct her own investigation. The author also did a good job at describing the setting and including details that set the scene throughout the book, creating an immersive experience.
The MC was well written. I really liked her personality and the quirks she was given. I also enjoyed that the author didn't make her smarter than everyone else, and that she made plenty of believable mistakes especially considering her age. The secondary characters were fine. They didn't stand out to me, but they didn't detract from the read either.
If you're interested in a YA mystery with an engaging MC, then this is worth checking out. My thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for allowing me to read this work. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Thank you to Netgally for letting me listen to this audiobook early.
There are a lot of moments there are unneeded teenage whines, but overall it is a really good thriller with an interesting twist!
Paige goes to her usual summer camp to be with friends, when her best friend Audrey. Audrey's brother, Dylan helps uncover the mystery with her.
Paige seems to be a very insecure teenager. She puts herself down a lot and gets jealous. Of course she's only a teenager. It's just frustrating to listen to from an adults perspective.
Overall I enjoyed the audiobook. Definitely something to pick up if you enjoyed "A Good Girls Guide to Murder"
This ya thriller took a while to get gping for ne. The narrator's voice in places irritated me but i feel that was more to do with the teenag nature and me sadly not being a teenager. The story itself is basic a girl went missing tgen oaige came for the sumner and gr together with her best friends brother but her best friend is acting out of character and disappeares. Next summer they team up to find out what happened to her . Once it got going it was good whodunit full if twists and turns. The final reveal was a little bit ott. The characters were written the dialogue was right for the age . The story took too long for me and it was too hollywood film ending.
In reviewing this I would state im not a youbg adult so i didnt enjoy it as much as one would and as a adult it would be a 3.5 star but i can't penalise the book for my age as for a ya its a 4. The pace is right for them.
Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator
Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook! This would be a great teen summer book! For me, it dragged on a little in the middle. I think that was my biggest hang up. Otherwise, a great thriller all around.
I loved this narrator. At times I forgot it was one person doing multiple voices, including male and female.
This was a solid YA thriller. I really enjoyed the main character and all her quirkiness, and I liked how we were kept on our toes until the very end. I think I would have enjoyed this better as a physical book, but I appreciated the various twists and turns. I do wish there would have been more character development around some of the main characters. The ending, while surprising, also didn't dive into those characters in particular. I never suspected them throughout because they were not a big part of the majority of the book. It felt a little out of left field and left me asking, "wait, who?"
Thanks to #NetGalley and #TantorAudio for the book #TheSummerSheWentMissing by #ChelseaIchaso. Last summer started with a romance then my friend and his sister, Audrey went missing. Now a year later we have decided to find out more. There are many secrets and uncovering the town folk have a lot to hide. Such an intense, thrilling book up until the shocking end.
Thank you to NetGalley for the free audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This title was quintessentially young adult mystery, with the main characters making the same silly mistakes and choices as every teenager in a mystery novel.
It didn’t really add anything to the genre and was quickly forgettable though this is perhaps due to over saturation of the market.
The narrator was suited to the character however her intonation and diction often came across as childish,
The title relied heavily on teenage stereotypes though this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Thrill ride of the summer! The Summer She Went Missing is a great YA thriller with a solid plot. This book kept me on my toes and will be the perfect summer escape.
A missing teen, a twisted love triangle, and the forgotten friends. A summer escape with long time family friends gone wrong.
I will definitely be recommending this to others!
The narrator was also really good at capturing the proper emotion.
Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for this advanced audio in return for my honest review.

💭What I thought would happen:
Hot girl goes missing. You that girl that everyone says shines bright like a diamond but in reality is a teenage dirtbag 😂 if I go missing never say I lit up a room - say I was a sassy asshole. Thx ✌🏻
📖What actually happens:
Girl goes missing. Best friend spends the next summer looking for her. Shit unravels.
🗯Thoughts/sassy musings:
Wasn’t my fav but an extra half for being completely bingeable
The ending…the way everything played out…like it was fine ya know? I just finished Listen For The Lie and it was just better and maybe unfair to compare
I think it’s a perfectly fine girl goes missing book
This story pulled me in and I couldn’t stop listening to it. What starts has a normal summer for families that love to spend time together turns into a show a strength on how they can support each other during a tough time.
I loved how the 2 young adults work together to find out what happened to their friend and sister.
The ending was unexpected but perfect for the story.
A must read for anyone.
Why was this book like this? It was more about being boyfriend and girlfriend than about the poor girl who went missing. They ran around making eyes at each other and being ridiculous, but at least they ran around. No one outside of these two teenagers seemed to be terribly concerned that another teenager just disappeared. There was no sense of urgency in the writing. No sense of loss expressed. It was just, yeah, she's gone. That's terrible.
Paige Redmond, and Audrey Covington have been best friends for years. Their mother's are bestfriends from their own childhood. Following, the Redmond family spends every summer with the Covington's at their lake house. This summer though, is different Audrey is keeping to herself, and Paige is spending a lot of time with Audrey's older brother Dylan. Then at the end of the summer Audrey doesn't come home one evening. As the police and the Covington's look for Audrey, they become increasingly concerned. After a whole year of being missing, Paige is back at the Covington's lake house. Everything feels different, and as she and Dylan try to re-kindle their friendship, more and more of Audrey's secrets emerge. Can they trust the police to do what is needed, or do Paige and Dylan need to look for Audrey on their own?
This read almost like two stories in one, the first summer and the second summer. It was an overall enjoyable young adult mystery book. Despite the circumstances of Audrey's disappearance, the book kept a somewhat wholesome element to it. The audiobook was easy to listen to and the narrators spoken clearly and were enjoyable. I did not suspect the twist at the end until right before it happened, which kept me entertained in the novel throughout listening.
First of all, thank you netgalley for the audiobook arc.
Suspense sizzles under the summer sun in 'The Summer She Went Missing,' a gripping mystery thriller that kept me on the edge of my beach chair from start to finish. The author masterfully weaves a tale of intrigue and deception against the backdrop of a picturesque coastal town.
The characters are as vibrant as the sunsets described in the book, each harboring secrets that slowly unravel as the plot thickens. The protagonist, a determined amateur sleuth, adds a refreshing touch of wit and intelligence to the narrative. The author skillfully builds tension, making it nearly impossible to put the book down.
The coastal setting is vividly portrayed, creating an immersive experience that transported me to the quaint town with its hidden alleys and enigmatic residents. The pacing is well-executed, balancing moments of high-stakes tension with quieter, character-driven scenes.
As the mystery deepens, unexpected twists and turns kept me guessing until the final chapters. 'The Summer She Went Missing' delivers a satisfying blend of mystery, suspense, and a touch of romance, making it the perfect companion for a summer escape. Highly recommended for fans of thrilling page-turners with a sun-soaked twist.
The story is about a couple of teenagers taking the lead in uncovering terrible secrets during their annual summer vacation.
Initially, it's an excellent portrayal of kids taking matters into their own hands to solve an unsolved one-year-old case. However, despite their intelligence and wit, their actions put them in significant danger, as the story reveals all the town's secrets.
The story was fast-paced, but too many unrealistic events occurred in a few days, making it seem overly fictional. Despite this, the detective part of the story was enjoyable, but its unrealistic nature made it hard to capture my attention. The last plot twist was the story's highlight, making it worth reading.
Thank you, NetGalley, for a free and advanced copy of the novel.
Audrey is missing. She had been acting dodgy lately and told a bunch of lies about her summer jobs and plans. Audrey's best friend and brother find a burner phone the following summer in Audrey's room. They are trying to figure out who the one phone number that is in the phone belongs to and if this person may know about Audrey's disappearing and perhaps the disappearing of another girl as well
Is Audrey involved in more than what is to be believed? Is she still alive? Is she hiding because perhaps she has done an unspeakable act that no one can know about
I really wanted to like this one more than I did. Personally, I’m not a fan of long chapters. I’d rather read a million short chapter than a few massive chapters. A lot of the characters seemed eerily similar to me also. Almost like they were all copy and pasted with different names/genders.
Overall, for a YA thriller it wasn’t awful though. YA thrillers are a bit more tame than adult ones and so that was expected. But, there could’ve been a bit more drama and suspense in my opinion.
I loved Paige and her use "old people phrases"
I also loved the duo of Dylan and Paige especially once they began their search.
This book definitely keeps you guessing and throwing things at you that you do not see coming. I did find the whole year between summers odd. I know the book states they continued the "search" and kept the "investigation" open but it almost felt like they went back to their lives for a year and then picked it back up when summer started. I almost wish this was a search/case they started right after she went missing instead of a year later. I also know it says they struggled during that year but I didn't feel it with the characters.
Anyway. I did really like the book, I just wished that awkward time wasn't there. It will a perfect mystery/thriller in my HS library!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.
3/5 stars
Thank you Tant0r Audio for the advanced listening copy!
Paige Redmond is thrilled to return to Clearwater Ridge for another summer with her best friend, Audrey Covington, and Audrey's dreamy brother Dylan. When sparks fly between her and Dylan, Paige is thrown into a summer of romance, while Audrey is totally thrown for a loop. Audrey isn't acting like herself, and she continues to push Paige further and further away until one day, Audrey disappears all together. A year later, Audrey's case has gone closed, and she's not the only girl to disappear from Clearwater Ridge without answers. When Paige finds some new evidence in Audrey's room, she and Dylan team up to find out what really happened to Audrey. Can they solve the mystery and avoid being thrown down a dark path, even a year later?
This book was a super fun, young adult thriller! I don't usually gravitate towards YA for a few reasons, all of which this book had. I get frustrate when a main character has some weird and over-the-top quirk, like how Paige picked up all of the strange phrases from the nursing home she works at. The inclusion of these felt so forced and unnecessary; she was a cool character without them! I also get frustrated when things get wrapped up way too pretty in YA novels. Not that thrillers have to be realistic, because they don't, but there's one thing about this ending (I won't spoil!) that has me irritated. -- None of this is to say that these things weren't appropriate for a YA novel, just not my cup of tea!
That all being said, I enjoyed this book anyway. Amy McFadden is a great narrator and fun to listen to. Paige and Dylan's romance was super sweet and a fun addition to the mystery at hand. I was pretty surprised by the ending and found myself really enjoying the ride. I raced through this book because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next! In all, this was a pretty fun, fast-paced read and perfect for anyone who doesn't want too much gore but still wants a wild ride.
