How far does a bond of friendship truly go? The Summer She Went Missing directly addresses this question with many twists and surprises along the way. This audiobook made me stay in my car longer than my commute to hear what happened next. I highly recommend giving this a listen to make your long commute exciting.

. The narrator Amy McFadden did an amazing job! She brought this book to life, and I highly enjoyed it. I started and finished this book in one day.
. We are introduced to the female main character Paige Redmond, who has always felt lucky to spend her summers in Clearwater Ridge with her best friend, Audrey Covington.
. But then last summer Audrey went missing. When Paige stumbles across a secret hidden in Audrey's room, however, it changes everything she thought she knew about last summer. She and Dylan set out on their own investigation, discovering things even though the police don't know about the people of Clearwater Ridge. But tracking down missing girls—girls who might be beyond saving by now—means entering a world far darker than Paige has ever imagined. And if she isn't careful, she'll become the next girl to vanish.
. The twist and turn this story took you on, I swear I didn't see coming, and I enjoy it like that. I went into this book BLIND and I am glad that I did, made it harder to solve the mystery.

Paige and Dylan are on a quest to find out what really happened to Audrey. With the police closing the case, saying it looks like she's run away, Audrey's best friend and brother know she wouldn't leave them without saying anything. Can they find out what happened to her?

This YA thriller was actually pretty decent. I enjoyed the audiobook narration and found it easy to follow the storyline. I enjoyed the multiple twists peppered throughout the book and look forward to reading more by this author.

Lowkey kind of the perfect YA novel? It had everything, with a murder mystery, misunderstood teens, friendship drama, rich people, awful adults, I really enjoyed this read.

Read this if you liked: anything by Jessica Goodman

I am going to refrain from giving a rating because I didn't actually finish the book. And it would be very unfair to rate a book I didn't complete. (Netgalley is forcing me to give a rating I'm sorry.)

The book itself is really nice. The pacing is just right. The plot is going along well
I'm actually enjoying the story.

The reason I dnfed after the first 6 chapters is because of the narrator. She uses this nasally Valley Girl accent that makes it very hard to listen to. I looked up the narrator and found a few voice samples and YouTube videos and their accent is perfectly fine and enjoyable. Its just that the accent they used for this particular book makes it very jarring to continue.

I dont know if it's because of the setting of the book or the age of the characters and it was intended to be this way. I did listen to the sample/excerpt before requesting, and I found it nice but the full book was a bit difficult. No offense to anybody.

I have requested/wished for an ebook version. If I end up receiving the ebook, id be happy to finish reading and update my review.

Thanks for the audiobook though!

The Summer I Went Missing is a great summery popcorn thriller. Perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying. The narration was excellent and easy to listen to. I haven’t read Chelsea Ichaso before but I will definitely be looking up her backlist!

Audio narrated by Amy McFadden.

A lot of frustrating teenage moments and the narrator's voice was kind of annoying but otherwise this turned out to be a pretty addictive thriller.

The story follows Paige as she works to uncover all the secrets around the disappearance of her best friend, Audrey. Along for the ride is Audrey's brother, Dylan, and if the two get distracted by their own romantic drama, well, they're only teenagers after all.

I definitely tuned out a bit when the hardcore Teen Tropes set in, but then I'd find myself backtracking because I'd missed a juicy bit of drama. So I imagine this would hit harder reading a physical copy.

That said, it's likely I'd have put pieces together a little faster if I'd read the physical. The beauty of audio is my focus wanders so suspects sneak up on me a lot more. This story was great for that because there were so many twists.

I feel like there were a lot of unbelievable aspects to the story but these also seemed to be intentionally explained away by the author through character musings or observations. For example, Paige begins to think a certain conclusion about Audrey that to me didn't make sense, but it's later explained away as a coping mechanism. I didn't buy it, so it never sat right with me.

There are so many teenage stereotypes here, and it had me rolling my eyes quite a bit. Still, somehow it held my attention throughout and by the end I was desperate to put all the pieces together and figure out what had happened.

Bit of a mixed read, but overall I enjoyed it. I think it would have landed better with me if I hadn't listened to the audio and had read the book physically instead. But then, if I'd had to read instead of listen I may never have picked it up in the first place.

With thanks to Netgalley for an audio ARC

#TheSummerSheWentMissing #NetGalley

Thank you, Net Galley and Tantor Audio, for the early copy of the audiobook. It took me several days to finish this, mainly because I didn't like following the main character, Paige. The romance between her and Audrey's brother was unnecessary for me, and it felt like it was a distraction from the main plot, which is finding Audrey and who did it.

The pacing was also slow; I kept waiting for it to keep up, but it was only around 90 percent that it was able to show me some action. As for the narrator, she did a great job. I have no issues whatsoever with her giving life to the story.

Overall, I would recommend this to those who are new to thrillers and don't mind following a love story in their thrillers.

Decent YA mystery. If you liked That's Not My Name, this one has a similar feel and a good exposition.

Paige and her family have always spent their summers at Audrey's family's vacation home in Clearwater Ridge. Over the years, Paige's crush on Audrey's brother Dylan has grown, but now Dylan is starting to notice Paige as well. Audrey and Paige are best friends, always doing everything together. However this summer, just as things are heating up between Dylan and Paige, Audrey becomes secretive, more distant, and never wants to hang out with them anymore. Then one day, Audrey doesn't come home. She has seemingly disappeared, and the more that Dylan and Paige look into Audrey's life this summer, the more they discover how much she has been hiding from all of them.

This is an incredibly fast paced book filled with a large number of twists and turns. I didn't completely call what happened, but I did guess a few things ahead of time. There are a few chapters scattered throughout from the POV of "The Girl", but they were so few and far between they added nothing to the overall narrative. Also the armchair detective work was a little laughable, however it fit the YA style and generally made sense within the structure of the book.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Amy McFadden and she did an excellent job of voicing Paige. She kept me engrossed in the story throughout and I had a difficult time putting it down.

If you like YA mysteries about missing teenagers, this is a well-done, surprising book sure to keep you invested.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio version.
Even though I saw this was for YA I thought I would give it a go. I liked the cover and the synopsis sounded interesting. Who doesn't like a mystery.
I will applaud the author. She wrote a good mystery novel that doesn't have any cuss words or sexual content for this age range. You will be shocked by the YA authors and what they put in their books. It is absolutely disgusting. This author did not do that and so parents or anyone that has a YA reader this book would be good for them.
The story plots itself was actually pretty good for YA. I really enjoyed it and could not put it down. I highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley, Tantor Audio & Chelsea Ichaso for an audio galley of The Summer She Went Missing in exchange for an honest review.

This was a solid 4-Star YA title. As an adult reader, I would have realistically given it a 3/3.5, but taking into consideration the intended audience, I believe it is worth of 4 stars.

This story focuses around a group of friends/siblings who get together to spend their summers at their summer homes. Everything is always great until that one summer than a local girl has gone missing and then Audrey, Paige's best friend also goes missing. Nothing is the same after that. So, Paige & Dylan (Paige's crush and also Audrey's brother) set off to try and figure out what happened to both Audrey & the other missing girl.

I think this book will resonate well with the YA audience and it packs enough suspense & mystery to keep you trying to figure out what happened right along with the characters. I also felt that the ending was satisfying and not something that readers will likely figure out ahead of time, which is good!

2 ⭐️. Unfortunately this majorly missed the mark for me. I went in pretty blind, only knowing it was a YA thriller and I think this one is a little too YA for me. The main character drove me insane with teenage angst, thoughts and actions. It was also very slow and did not hold my attention. Even the ending when things picked up, I found I couldn’t even remember which character was which as I was not invested in the story. Also, I don’t think I’ve found much success in reading about privileged teens/young adults, this is a second miss in that department for me. I didn’t guess the ending, which is always good, but I also didn’t really try to give it any thought. I know there will be a great audience of teens and young adults who will like this book and possibly find some commonality with the main characters, unfortunately it was not me. I listened to the audio version at 1.75-2x, the narrator was good - no complaints there.

I wish this book and author success in its launch, coming soon March 5, 2024.

Thank you to Netgalley, RB Media and Chelsea Ichaso for the advanced audio copy in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this YA thriller! This was a lighter read compared to the doom & gloom of my normal thrillers, but just as entertaining.

It was fast paced, packed with twists and turns, as well as red herrings! I couldn’t wait to see what happened to Audrey. The main characters were extremely likable and easy to root for.

The narrator was great! Easy to understand and full of emotion. I listened on 2x the speed, but that was my personal preference.

All in all, I highly recommend this book!

This YA novel reads like an episode of Criminal Minds if everyone involved are that YA age, which is to be expected, of course. What is it about younger folks wanting to put investigations in their own hands? Like...grrrr...the police isn't doing enough so we must do this ourselves to get to the bottom of things! Do I sound a bit annoyed... perhaps a bit...but this book, however, somehow...it works. But only the story itself works as the characters are mediocre at best. The only one I really care about is Audrey, and I'll just leave it at that as to not spoil anything.

The main girl Paige, pining over her best friend's brother Dylan, is also the one wanting to know what has happened to her best friend from the previous summer. The fact that Audrey has been missing a year, Paige doesn't seem to be as bothered by this as much as being bothered by that her relationship with Dylan has fizzled out. Like as if both issues are equal, and even though her and Dylan start figuring out about Audrey's disappearance, somehow the book just seems to make it both equally important. Like I said, the story about Audrey and what has been happening with the other missing girl works throughout the book, just Paige and Dylan were kinda meh. And then the ultimate reveal...ok, it's more realistic in the scheme of things but just not mind blowing.

Ultimately this is simply another fun YA mystery/thriller read. I've enjoyed the story and that's what counts.

this book was really entertaining and thrilling.
In fact, it felt like if the summer i turned pretty and a good girl’s guide to murder met.
I would say that I enjoyed more the first part since the final part, where everything is revealed, it felt a bit rushed. But if you are in a mood for a YA thriller I would really recommend this one!!!
I also would like to say a huge thank you to Netgalley and RB media for the audiobook e-arc of this book!!!.

First, thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook arc. I really enjoyed this YA thriller! If you liked A Good Girls Guide to Murder, you'd enjoy this one too! The teen characters were believable and relatable. While, at times, it seemed predictable, there were still multiple unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing.

Paige spends her summers in Clearwater Ridge with her best friend Audrey and their families. One summer her best friend starts acting weird, and that summer ends with Audrey’s disappearance. Next summer, she is still missing and Paige begins her investigation.

This is a classic YA Thriller that reminds me of “That’s not my name”, and “A Good Girls Guide to Murder”. All you really need to know is that this book has it all; a cute romance, a beachy setting, and more secrets than you would think could fit in a book.

I really like the writing style of Chelsea Ichaso, and discovered I’ve actually read, and loved another book of Her’s called “Little Creeping Things”, I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for other book from her in the future!

If you like YA thriller’s you are pretty much guaranteed to like this one as well, so I recommend giving it a shot.

Big Thanks to Netgalley, Tantor Audio and the author Chelsea Ichaso for allowing me to listen to an audio arc of this book.

Paige Redmond spends every summer in Clearwater Ridge with the Covington's. The summer is filled with lazy days on the river and fun parties at night with her best friend Audrey. When Audrey's brother, Dylan finally tells Paige that he has feelings for her, Paige thinks this will be the best summer yet. However, throughout the summer Audrey starts to push Paige away, never having time to hang out and even kicking Paige out of the room that they have always shared until one day, Audrey goes missing. A year later, the Sherrif's department is stating that Audrey's case has gone cold.

When Paige finds a hidden compartment in Audrey's room, she quickly learns that there is more to the story of Audrey's case. Paige and Dylan decide to investigate these new clues in a last hope to find Audrey.

This was a very intense read. Although the beginning starts off slow, going over the first summer, it does a great job setting up Audrey's disappearance and the possibility that it might be related to another missing girl. It also sets up what happens a year later and how it effects Paige but also everyone in the Covington family. I really liked Paige in this book, she is fun and quirky, often making references from her elderly patrons she works with at the Retirement facility. Her investigation into Audrey's disappearance has some comedic points which breaks up the daunting task of trying to find her friend.

I was entranced by the ending. There were some many twists and events that led up to the conclusion, I had to listen to the last couple chapters to make sure I knew everything that happened. I was completely surprised by the ending but the events that lead to Audrey's disappearance and the chapters from "The Girl" made it believable. This is the perfect mystery/thriller for summer.

The Summer She Went Missing comes out March 5th, 2024.

Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to review The Summer She Went Missing.

The Summer She Went Missing is a mystery told over two summers. In the first summer, Paige goes to Clearwater Ridge just like she always has to spend time with her best friend Aubrey and her brother, Dylan. Aubrey isn't acting like herself, but Paige is more interested in her developing romance with Dylan. At the end of the summer, Aubrey has vanished, much like a townie who also disappeared earlier in the summer. In the second summer, Paige is back and she is determined to find out what happened to Aubrey with the help of Dylan, who had shut her out ever since Aubrey went missing. The narrator was a bit awkward with her cadence at the beginning of the audiobook, but I either got used to it or it got better over time, so it wasn't distracting by the end. This was a very good mystery with a lot of interesting characters. It will appeal to fans of Cruel Summer and Life is Strange.
