This was a suspenseful YA read. You will find twists and turns around every corner that will keep you guessing about who is truly behind the missing girls. Amy McFadden did a wonderful job narrating this. I was kept on the edge of my seat the entire time. Although this is not a typical book that I would read, it was a good palate cleanser. This is great for a young reader who loves a good true crime story.
"The Summer She Went Missing" by Chealsea Ichaso was an interesting book. The reader did an amazing job.
Hands down this book will have you on the edge of your seat craving more. From the first page to the last page, the twist and turns will keep you guessing. The ending is just shocking! Plus it’s got a little love story to add a cherry on top on the suspense.
Thanks Net galley & RB Media for advanced Audiobook
Thanks to NetGalley for my e-arc!
If you’re a fan of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder” and “I killed Zoe Spanos” you’ll enjoy this young adult thriller!
Every summer Paige and her family visit their wealthy friends in Clearwater Ridge and this summer is going to be her best. She’s got her best friend Audrey, and Audrey’s hot older brother who is finally into her! However, things go south when Audrey suddenly grows distant and by the end of the summer is missing. A whole year passes and still no one knows what happened to Audrey, but Paige is determined to find out the truth.
If you like mysteries and generally interesting characters you’ll enjoy this one. I loved Paige as a character because she was just a quirky little weirdo. I could have done without the romance but it was fun and angsty for sure. I read this in a day so it’s definitely a quick and easy read but I wish the ending confrontation wasn’t so rushed.
I loved this novel, it was very eye opening that anything can happen and you may not know your closest friends as well as you think you do. Young love burdened by tragedy. This is well written and I couldn’t stop reading. Loved it. Would love to see it written from the parents pov.
This was a really fantastic YA thriller, in my opinion! There were so many times where I thought for sure I had it figured out and then BAM! Another twist that threw me for a loop! Also, Amy McFadden did a really great job with the narration!

The Summer She Went Missing" by Chelsea Ichaso unfolds a tale of friendship, betrayal, and the chilling mystery surrounding the disappearance of Audrey Covington. Set against the backdrop of the picturesque yet enigmatic Clearwater Ridge, the novel immerses readers in a world where secrets lurk beneath the surface of idyllic summer days.
Paige Redmond, our protagonist, navigates the complexities of adolescence while grappling with Audrey's inexplicable vanishing. The dynamics between the characters are richly developed, with the bond between Paige and Audrey forming the story's emotional core. As Paige delves deeper into Audrey's disappearance, she uncovers a web of lies and hidden truths that shatter the illusion of the perfect summer she once cherished.
The novel skillfully builds suspense, keeping readers on the edge of their seats as Paige and her allies race against time to uncover the truth. Twists and turns abound, weaving a narrative as unpredictable as it is gripping. The author masterfully balances moments of tension with poignant reflections on friendship, identity, and the consequences of deception.
Thank you to Netgalley, RB media, and Chelsea Ichaso for my copy of this book. If you are looking for a book with Pretty Little Liars and A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder vibes, this is it! This YA thriller was such a fun read. The character and plot development were well paced overall. The first third of the book was a little slow, but important for character development. And once it picked up it didn’t stop! There were some predictable plot points, but there were also twists that were unexpected. The ending was great and overall this is a fun read that will keep you guessing!
Paige is excited to spend the summer like usual with her best friend, Audrey, and her crush, Dylan. But Audrey is acting weird and out of character and then she goes missing. She isn’t the first girl to go missing in Clearwater Ridge, but she does leave behind a secret. A whole year passes by before Paige finds Audrey’s secret and decides to find Audrey, with Dylan’s help. Will she be able to find Audrey before she becomes another missing girl?
I didn’t realize this was a YA book, usually the dialogue is too immature for me. But I didn’t have that issue with this book.
I really enjoyed the main character, she was quirky and didn’t seem to try to change herself for others. Which I think is a great character for teens and young adults to read about. I do wish there was a little more character development for some of the other characters.
This was a decent mystery. I did figure out most things and most of the ending ahead of the time. But, there was a little bit that I didn’t so that’s always fun!
I was able to listen to this on audiobook and I thought the narrator was phenomenal! I will be looking up more of her audiobooks! I also am looking forward to more from this author in the future.

Thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the advanced audio copy of this book!
One summer Audrey is there, the next summer she’s a cold case.
The summer starts off normal, the same as every year. Paige’s family arrives at the Covingtons summer house right in time for the summer kick-off party thrown every year. Like every year the girls go together to hang out, unlike every year they don’t leave together. Paige has finally gotten her crush, Paige’s older brother Dylan, to admit he likes her too. Audrey finds her own way home, and starts pushing everyone away. While Paige and Dylan start hanging out more, Audrey dives into working at the local rafting company and riding horses. She never comes to hang out or spend time with any of them, and eventually even pushes Paige out of the room they shared together every summer.
And then she’s gone.
Audrey is gone for almost 24 hours when their families realize she’s not just busy, she’s missing. They soon learn that everything they thought she’d been doing this summer had been a lie, and they have no clue where she could be. The search pulls no leads and eventually everyone must go home.
The following summer the two families reunite at the summer house, but it’s not the same. Audrey is still missing, her mother has lost weight from the stress, and Dylan and Paige don’t talk. It isn’t until Paige goes into Audrey’s room and makes a discovery that she and Dylan team up to try and find Audrey. They have so many questions about what happened last summer, and maybe another missing girl holds the answers.
I listened to the audiobook version and could not hit pause to save my life. I put it on 1.75x speed and sat on my couch playing a color matching game for hours while I devoured this book. Anytime I thought about pausing at the end of the chapter to take a break, I couldn’t. I needed to know what was next. This wasn’t one of those books where every chapter ends on a cliffhanger, but often you’d want to keep digging into what was going on. The book was written so that it felt like you were learning all these details about Audrey and their old friends alongside Paige and Dylan. It allowed for a level of misdirection that was believable.
At one point in the book Paige and Dylan start to question everything they knew about who Aubrey was. Could she have been on drugs? Could she be a killer? What kind of people was she hanging out with last summer? And it all fits. Based on the facts they have at the time these are all reasonable questions I think anyone would posture about a friend who you suddenly found out spent 3 months lying to you. I was asking the same questions about Paige, who up until that point seemed like a regular, moody teen. The author made sure the main characters were making natural conclusions with the facts they had, without any crazy doomsdaying involved. During the time they think it could have been a serial killer, it wasn’t unfounded in any way. Two girls around the same age had gone missing from the same area.
I did not see the conclusion of this book coming. As the investigation continued they were able to suss out people who were guilty of terrible things, but never what happened to Audrey. In fact it’s only by chance that they figured out where she was, though they still didn’t know what happened or how. Like a lot of real life cases, those sorts of things aren’t always known until the bitter end.
A huge shout out to the narrator, Amy McFadden, a member of SAG-AFTRA. She did a great job bringing Paige’s voice to life. Unlike some narrators she talks steady but not slow, so I couldn’t go up to 2x speed on the novel which I don’t think is a bad thing. I’d rather a narrator talk a little faster (more like normal talking, less like reading a book to someone), as it can help convey feeling more authentically. It also helps it sound more like a teenage girl, who in my experience don’t tend to talk slow and steady. Audio narration can be tricky in that you don’t want to completely act the book, but you don’t want to drone either and I think Ms. McFadden did an excellent job balancing the two.

This was a very gripping YA thriller with lots of twists and turns.
Our main character Paige spends every summer with her family and her family friends at Clearwater Ridge. Audrey is Paige's best friend and Audrey's brother Dylan is Paige's crush. The year Dylan finally notices Paige, Audrey seems to change. She acts weird and even asks Paige to move out of the room they share. Then she disappears. The next summer (after breaking up) Paige and Dylan discover a clue about Audrey's disappearance and how it might link to another missing girl from the area. They try to crack the case by themselves.
The characters were good. They felt very real and well thought out. Paige was so desperate to find Audrey even though she felt Audrey had been pushing her away before she went missing. She wanted to follow every clue to its end even if it was dangerous. Dylan was very sweet and smart. He had to grow up fast to help raise his brother after Audrey goes missing. The romance between them was sweet as well. It felt natural and not forced.
I was very interested from the beginning. We get a look at the time before Audrey went missing and it set the stage well for the rest of the book. We get to know the characters a little first. As the clues unfold and people start to talk when they wouldn't to the police, several suspects emerge and any of them could have done it. I was really kept on the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. About 3/4 of the way in, it felt like it was taking a long time to get to the end, but the actual ending was very twisty and exciting.
The narrator was great. She really brought the story to life and made everything seem so exciting and fast paced.
Definitely one to check out if you like quick, YA thrillers!
This book was intense from the beginning! Being an avid fan of thrillers it had me hooked to the point I could not put it down!
A very fun YA Thriller - Coming March 5th 2024!
This book was like a thriller/mystery of The Summer I Turned Pretty & I loved it! I didn’t see the twist coming and I also loved GOOD romance in a thriller for once.
Thank you for this audio ARC NetGalley, Tantor Audio & Chelsea Ichaso!
Very much in the same vain as Good girls guide to murder, this audio was very enjoyable.
YA isnt my usual genre of choice but I liked the premise of this one on requesting and hoped it would be a good audio - narration was enjoyable and no complaints.

What a gripping read! The beginning of the book starts with the summer Audrey goes missing then segways into a year later with her still not found. A good where is she OR is she dead mystery. Along with good twists in the case, fans of the thriller genre will enjoy this book. Some thoughts:
*I'm glad that Paige and Dylan didn't stay together just for the sake of a romantic plot point. The way things ended between them seemed pretty natural given the circumstances.
*You will need to let go of reality slightly for how Paige and Dylan are investigating.
*Poor Audrey.
Amy McFadden did a wonderful job narrating.
Would recommend.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Tantor Audio and Chelsea Ichaso for a copy of the book. All opinions are of my own.
Thank You RB media and Netgalley.
First off the narrator was amazing! I think she did amazing. It didn't sound monotone. It made her sound like an actual person. Not a character being read about.
Secondly, the overall mystery of this book was good. I do wish somethings were different but that's mainly because I wanted more suspense.
4.5 stars!
Firstly I want to say a huge thank you to Netgalley and RB Media for the audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book! This book is very reminiscent of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder but set in a lake side town over the course of 2 summers. I was completely unable to put this book down, it was so well written and captured my whole attention.
I think that Amy McFadden did an amazing job at narrating this book and giving the characters so much personality and depth.
This is a book I would definitely recommend to anyone who is a huge fan of the AGGGTM series or anyone seeking a mystery book that isn't too intense.
A super quick read and honestly so worth it
This book is the perfect mix of The Summer I Turned Pretty and A Good Girls Guide To Murder. I listened to the audiobook in 2 days - I did not want to shut this book off. The romantic subplot really lightened the otherwise intense story! 5⭐️ Definitely will be picking up the physical copy to re-read once it’s released!

I received an audio ARC from the publisher through Netgalley, all opinions are my own.
When Audrey Covington goes missing at Clearwater Ridge during their yearly summer vacation, her best friend Paige and brother Dylan get drawn into the mystery of what happened to her as the case gets cold a year later. As well as where the local girl, Madison, went missing before Audrey may have gone.
I found the ending a bit underwhelming. Some of the mystery parts were easy to figure out like the one who may have done something to Madison and Audrey. While other parts I didn't see coming. The book overall felt very rushed. You didn't get much of the summer that Audrey went missing, and the summer they went looking for her seemed to only happen over a week or so, though it may have been longer it just rushed by so fast. I wish the book had been longer.
There wasn't a great amount of character development. Paige stayed pretty similar throughout the book though she did realize some things about the people around her. For once, I didn't mind the romance between her, and Dylan and it didn't feel forced. I would have liked some of Dylan's POV though.
While I liked the overarching theme of certain people being able to get away with a lot of things while others are basically powerless. It's a bit overdone in YA thrillers.
You'll enjoy this book if you like thrillers but aren't someone who reads almost exclusively mystery thrillers. If you read a ton of thrillers, you'll probably figure out the whodunit part pretty easily.
Narrator Rating: 4 stars
The narrator did a decent job, but the book could have used more variety of voices, so you knew who was talking to Paige easily.
