Thank you for the ARC!

David Ellis has quickly become a go to without of mine. This book was no exception! I was so excited when I got approved.

This book is filled with lots of lies, secrets, twists and revelations. There was a nice amount of action in here as well. If that is what you are looking for read this book.

Leo Balanoff is a LIAR!!! When his fingerprints are found on the murder weapon used to kill a drug dealer no one believes him. He is given two choices, but is he making the right one?

Thank you for the early copy of The Best Lies. There was a lot to go on in this book and lots of twists which were awesome. You can never go wrong with a twist that you werent expecting! The story has a few different POV's: Leo, Andi and Chris which all go back into the past as well as into the present time. The book was a bit long though and could have been shorter but overall the story was pretty good and kept my interest. If you want a story about political suspense with some mystery then im sure you will enjoy this one.

Many thanks to @putnambooks, @penguinrandomhouse, @netgalley, and #gpputnamssons for my #gifted (free) copy. Pub date 7/23/24.

THE BEST LIES was my most anticipated read of 2024, I couldn't wait! David's previous novel, LOOK CLOSER, was my favorite book of 2022. Don't get me wrong this book was great, but at the beginning I had a hard time following because there are SO many characters and time changes it was hard for me to follow (David is just too smart for me). Anyway, keep going, everything comes together, and the plot twists are mind-blowing! Seriously, David is the most talented author I have ever read, I have no idea how he can make a book become a confusing puzzle and than piece everything all together like that (if that makes any sense). I am not even going to attempt to write a summary because there was so much going on. Just know your mind will be getting a workout throughout this book!

First, I encourage readers to purchase and read books for themselves, period. My opinion is mine alone. With “The Best Lies”, I didn’t enjoy it. I never really was able to get into and I struggled with finishing. The characters were not memorable for me.

The twists just kept on coming with this book. I was floored by the ending. Everything really tied together like a Christmas bow. It’s got great characters and you get just enough of their background without it becoming too much. I loved the different timelines along with each character, it added so much depth to the story. Overall, excellent read with great character development.

Look Closer by David Ellis is an auto recommendation for me. So I was so excited to obtain an ARC of David Ellis latest book. Unfortunately I did not care for this one as I'm not a fan of books about mobsters. Crime fans will probably enjoy this much more than I did. Ill stick to domestic thrillers which are much more my speed. I will definitely try future books by Ellis.

The Perfect Con: Dozen + years, 5 Silent Conspiracies & every coincidence goes your way

Let me start by saying after previous book by David Ellis, I could have set the bar too high.

The repetitive nature of numbers and taking medications tired quickly for me.

But, the worst of all the crimes is not from the story, rather from the coincedences that all end in our orotagonist's favor.

Again, I may have set the bar too high, but can only go 3 stars.
It's not a bad novel, just an overly convenient one.

While I do not believe I was the proper audience for this book, as it was a little out of my typical genre & wheelhouse, The Best Lies was definitely interesting, twisty and cunning, which I will always appreciate!

Thank you Netagalley & Penguin Group Putnam | G.P. Putnam's Sons for this arc!

If there’s a loophole, Leo will find it. He’s an attorney with a dark past and makes up his own rules. He’s unreliable, the best liar, but the type of guy you want to see win.

This one has multiple POV and some additional fringe characters so you need to keep up. The pacing slowed down too much for my liking, but sped up towards the end with multiple twists.

What I loved most, was that when you think you know the characters, you don’t. If you like a mob, assassin type theme with loads of action, you’ll like this one.

Huge thank you to G.P. Putnams sons and NetGalley for this early copy. My opinions are my own.

My first David Ellis book but definitely not my last! This was an extremely well put together book with fantastic characters that kept me flipping pages long past my bedtime. A wild ride that had me on my toes and no way to know who to trust. The perfect storm of secrets, lies and a whole lotta passion. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley, David Ellis and Penguin Group Putnam for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is definitely different from his other book. It was hard to keep up with all of the POVs in my opinion and could be a little confusing at times. It’s a great storyline. Overall I think this was a great read!

4.5 rounded up! Fans of Look Closer will also really enjoy The Best Lies. It’s wild, twisty, unpredictable, and highly entertaining. The multiple POVs and timelines were a bit hard to keep straight in the beginning but trust the process…it all comes together in the end. The short chapters also made it such a quick read. Highly recommend!

Like so many friends here, I LOVED this author's novel, Look Closer, from 2023! 😱

3.5 STARS

This one was a bit of a struggle for me. It took awhile to really "get into" and there were many characters (police related) to keep up with! Everyone seemed to have some connection that would be revealed at the end.

Leo's POV was my favorite and he was quite the character! The last chapters really picked up the pace and I was happy with how the end played out. There were plenty of flashbacks, reveals, unreliable narrators and some very unsavory characters (drug cartels, etc,) Leo is dealing with the FBI and not feeling comfortable with what they are asking him to do (who trusts them anymore)??

I enjoyed (didn't love), I think those who enjoy crime fiction and don't mind a slower build-up, might love it.

Another amazing thriller by David Ellis! The multiple points of view, the incredibly intricate plot, the fully flushed-out characters. The whole thing wraps up beautifully in the end. David Ellis is truly a genius.

What I particularly enjoyed, is that Leo is a compulsive liar. Yet, he's an incredibly moral, standup guy. It makes you wonder, aren't we all really just liars?

My expectations were sky high coming off of Look Closer, and this book lived up to them. Good luck putting this one down once you start it. I was super excited to receive this ARC because Look Closer is one of my top favorite books of all time! This one did not disappoint! There are some tough topics discussed in this book, but it was written so well! I read over half of it in one sitting. Full of twists and absolutely gripping, and all came together so well in the end. David Ellis is an incredible author! I loved it!

OH MY GOSH THIS WAS INCREDIBLE! What a ride. I was literally on my toes the entire book. So many twists, unreliable characters. It was just Chef's Kiss.

Thank you Netgalley for my arc. This is definitely one of my favorite reads of 2024.

This book hit all the aspects I want in a thriller! I love when an author recognizes smart readers and creates a plot with layers and twists that aren't easy to see behind, yet also doesn't keep everything a secret until the last 5% of the book. I love the right amount of bread crumbs scattered throughout the book.

Leo is a lawyer, a good one, and a pathological liar, and I quite liked him! He gets wrapped up in some nefarious schemes and has to work his way through them without getting too tangled up in the web of crime. We also read from the POV of an FBI agent who is working to shut down a large crime lord.

An easy summer thriller to recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the advance e-copy of this book.

I loved this book! Look Closer by the same author was my favorite book of 2023 so The Best Lies was one of my most anticipated books of this year and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint! David Ellis does an amazing job crafting his thrillers and I always love how the stories unfold. This book had multiple POVs and some flashback chapters but the author does a great job with the pace of the story that it never felt overwhelming or confusing. I liked the three character POVs and thought all the characters were well fleshed out. There were many twists and turns throughout and even though some of them were a little bit predictable for me, I still enjoyed the story as everything was revealed. I also love crime and police procedural stories and this book reminded me of an episode of Criminal Minds or Law & Order. Overall this was a great read that kept me hooked and had some fun signature humor from the author. I highly recommend this book especially for readers who like crime fiction, espionage, police procedurals and morally gray characters.

*Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an eARC for review!*

This book was a slow start for me but once it got going I was hooked. There are so many twists in the story that come at you. When it finally resolves it all makes sense. The book turned into one I didn’t want to put down to try and figure out where it was going. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
