My favourite serial killer by now!!!
It is a 5 stars book for sure
I just couldn't stop reading until i finished it! it was a incredibly surprising exciting reading. The last chapters was so exciting, it was knocking me out to think that Cordelia was getting almost caught by the police. It is definitely a five stars book for me and I wish with all my heart that the book will be published here in Brazil!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I sadly had to DNF this book it was so Dexter coded I was excited for it but when the main character talked about the daughter of her best friend playing Legend of Zelda on an Xbox I just couldn’t get back into the book with such a huge continuity error. I’m sad it got missed in the editing process.
Loving the premise of this Advanced Readers Copy! It’s very Dexter/Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman. It’s a really quick read! Perfect pallet cleanser after finishing the ACOTAR series. (The genres are in no way related, obviously lol)
I loved everything about this book and can't believe it's over. The pacing was brilliant, just enough to keep you on your toes and get you hooked until the end
Cordelia Black is a woman who does her homework and never starts something she plans to finish without a plan. So when the drug she's been pushing as a medical sales executive gets pulled from the market and her sample trail is audited, she's got problems. The kicker? She's been using that little blue pill to sedate her victims. That's right - Cordelia Black isn't just a red-bottom wearing pill pusher, she's also a serial killer. And she only kills bad boys. Very bad boys.
A book that felt a lot like Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman meets Showtime's Dexter, This Girl's a Killer was just as addictive as the medication in its main character's roller bag. From start to finish, I loved seeing Cordelia navigate situations she manufactured (dates with men she would later kill) just as much as the ones she stumbled into (was dating a cop the best idea? No. But did it stress me out as a reader in the best way? Yes). Her love for herself, her best friend Diane, and Diane's daughter and Cordelia's goddaughter sugar made it easier to empathize with - hear me out - a serial killer and I found myself rooting for her not to get caught.
Without spoiling the novel, she... does get caught. Several times. But she's quick on her stiletto-clad feet and her willingness to improvise makes her an engaging killer and protagonist. I did find the book drag a little bit towards the end - there's only so many messes someone can wriggle themselves out of before plot armor starts to feel excessive - but This Girl's a Killer is a spectacular debut from Wells. And I wouldn't be shocked if it was promptly optioned and adapted into a killer TV show or movie.
This Girl is a Killer pleasantly surprised me! It was a little different than I was expecting. I really thought this was going to be very dark for the subject matter. There was great character development. The plot was very fast paced, I couldn’t put it down once I got into the story. This is a definite must read for anyone who enjoys thrillers!
Thank.you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review!
I felt like I was going through it with Cor, and the ending omg I felt like it was starting all over again in a good way. I liked the book, it was a fun read. I had some trouble with some words but luckily my kindle helped. Otherwise I felt it was a smooth read.
Maybe 2.5 stars rounded up? I kind of had the same problem with this one that I did with Between Lies and Revenge (which I DNFed), and it’s that I didn’t particularly care about or root for the main character. Like, the way she’s so ~edgy like oh I mix the blood of my victims with paint to make paintings because I’m an ~artist, the “code” she has of how she can decide whether she’s allowed to kill someone or not…idk. I kept wishing this had been gay and that THAT’S why Cordelia is so overprotective of Diane and her daughter, because it would’ve made a lot more sense and I’d have been way more into it, but alas. It wasn’t bad, but definitely not the best “female serial killer killing bad men” book I’ve read this year.
Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the digital ARC, all opinions are my own.
There is something so satisfying about books with a female serial killer who kills bad men. Cordelia was oddly relatable (loved that schedules and sticking to the plan was basically her whole personality).
The author did a good job depicting female rage while keeping it upbeat and comedic. The characters were complex and well written. If you get anxious or stressed reading books where everything goes wrong, this is your warning! I would also suggest looking up trigger warnings.
Overall, this was a pretty good debut book and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

As with most serial killers, something in their past has triggered this behavior and Cordelia Black is no exception.
The author has given this terror of a woman a soft side...she has a "family" she loves and protects and a high end job that keeps her well dressed and living well. This job, at a pharmaceutical company, allows her to pilfer the pills necessary to ply her craft.
Cordelia is smarter than the average killer. She has turned her determination to rid the world of these evil people into a side hustle. Dropping off the body at a determined spot to a man who sells body parts provides a econstant source of income.
Part of staying off the police radar is to have a perfect plan in place and do not waiver from it. And that is what happens to Cordelia and when the book picks up the suspense and the pace. How she escapes the various hurdles, thinks on her feet, juggles it all and still comes out ahead is a miracle.
Cordelia is a no-nonsense character you'll enjoy in spite of what you think of her personal goals in life.
I would say this is more of a drama and suspenseful read instead of a thriller. I thought this was more well done and entertaining than Bad Men which is similar in nature to the plot. It is a slow paced story. Probably not the best to read in one sitting and could’ve been about 75 pages shorter.
This book had a great plot with intriguing characters. I’ll definitely be looking out for more from this author.
This book is a much tamer version of the mindf*ck series. Not much elaboration into the motives of the FMC or the actual of killing or the reasons behind she chooses her victims. Definitely would benefit from fleshing the background and descriptors a lot more. She feels like such a childish vigilante. She kept saying she had planned for fallbacks but all she could feel was anxiety and didn't elaborate on her plans and solutions. I truly believe it's by sheer luck she didn't get caught. Overall, a quick and easy read but there's a lack of tension and suspense which had not been built up enough to make the story gripping.
I feel like this is the female version of Dexter and I absolutely love it!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what would happen next. I found the writing style easy to read. It’s first person and not overly wordy, which is super nice!
If you don’t take this book to seriously, you’re going to have a lot of fun. It’s not a cold, hard, serious thriller. It’s campy and silly, and nothing goes right but in the most ridiculous ways. There were times when I thought, how is she going to pull this off? And then she found a way.
Cordelia Black leads a very successful and controlled life as a pharmaceutical representative, a high earner with a cultivated image, she has come a long way from who she was growing up. But she has a alter ego. Going after bad men, she executes their highly planned and controlled murders. Meticulously disciplined from start to finish, every detail is accounted for including the body removal. But life has thrown her a curve ball with the drug she has been pushing being pulled from the market, and her best friend becoming involved with a questionable man. She will do anything to protect her best friend Diane and her goddaughter. Things seem to move from bad to worse, as she tries to stay ahead of the police as they search for the "serial killer" in the area. With constant questions of who knows what, and determined to keep her friend safe, Cordelia may have made a mistake.
The author kept the story light but there are a lot of tense moments. I felt more and more anxious for our heroine as the story progressed. Cordelia can only be described as morally grey. I was rooting for her to get away with murder but also wishing she would make a therapy appointment. The dark humor and the strong female friendships are a highlight of the book.
While the ending is satisfying, it left the door open for a book two. I am really hoping to see more of Cordelia.
Thank you NetGalley and Poinsoned Pen Press for the advanced reader copy. This is my honest review.
I wanted so much to love this book but ultimately it was a complete miss for me. This is basically just a female led Dexter rip-off with a completely unsympathetic main character. The author premises the novel with a note that she does not disclose the evil-doings of the men that Cordelia kills and for me it's like why not?? If we understood what put these men on Cordelia's radar and her hunt and how she finally determined they were worth killing maybe I would have cared. The only things that kept me invested was my hope Cordelia got caught. Alas, this book was a huge miss.
I just didn't think that Cordelia read realistic, that might be the wrong word. But she was killing an awful lot, like all the time and she just ignored that Simon was obviously on to her and went ahead and killed Frank. Simon might be terrible but obviously he was going to make that connection. Also I feel like she should have backed off with all the FDA pressure. I wanted this book to feel real but it just felt like Cordelia was supposed to be this brilliant killer but all she did was make mistakes.
Cordelia Black has it all figured out. She works a job that affords her luxury items, a good friend and goddaughter, and a killer hobbie on the side. Cordelia spends her downtime ridding the world of bad men. When her best friend, Diane begins dating a new man, Cordelia's internal alarms ring loud. Is he a bad man or will he be her undoing? Quickly everything Cordelia has worked for becomes to collapse. Once you've stacked the cards so high, it's quite the fall to the bottom.
Cordelia is immediately a fun character. She has a lifestyle that keeps all the pieces in check, never straying from a code. In a similar style to Dexter, she's only disposing the world of bad guys. This book was fast paced and heart pounding. I couldn't put it down, I had to know what was going to happen. Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book.
Riveting and the BFF murderer book you never knew you needed. Twists, turns, and very unputdownable.
I really enjoyed this one. It kept me up way too late turning (virtual) pages because I had to keep reading.
While the concept is obviously a bit dark, the book as a whole was infused with enough humor and lightness to keep it from being too disturbing. While some things weren't as surprising as I thought the author wanted them to be (Joanie, for example), it kept me on my toes.
I could have used a little more back story into Cordelia's past, and I was a little confused about why nothing with another character was really wrapped up.
My feelings on the ending are a bit mixed. It felt a little too "real life" - I think because the name was so close to the real person's - and it took me out of the story a bit.
Also, I love that little devil dog.
