I really liked this book's plot, female serial killer that has somewhat of a moral compass. Kind of reminded me of Dexter, because the MC would only kill "bad men". Until the one wrong sloppy kill sent her spiraling and well...you will have to read to find out what happens!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Recommended for: readers who love thrillers with an unreliable narrator
Summary: Cordelia takes care and protects women and children from “monsters.” Her method is controversial, to say the least! She lures them on a date, drugs them, tortures them and ultimately kills them. Then uses their blood to make art she hangs in her house. Some might say she is a psychopath, but she believes she is a hero.
She is able to balance her good work with her daily life, until her best friend Diane starts to date a man, Simon, with some hidden hobbies that makes him a monster in Cordelia’s eyes. How can Cordelia deal with her best friend’s misguided attraction to Simon, while knowing that something about him is off?
Review: This thriller is written really well! I really enjoyed it and was entertained throughout. The torture can be alittle too detailed at times. And, obviously, Cordelia is not a typical, lovable, MC. But in the end, I was sucked in and anxiously wondering how and why she would get caught. So far, my favorite book of the year!
This was an electrifying blend of suspense, humor, and dark charm. The FMt is a fierce, flawed, and utterly compelling anti-heroine who will have you rooting for her despite her morally gray choices. The author has balanced action and character development, making it easy to get immersed in the protagonist’s world and her complex, high-stakes challenges.
The plot twists kept me guessing, and the witty dialogue adds a refreshing edge. While a few subplots felt slightly underdeveloped, the gripping storyline and unforgettable main character make this a thrilling read that I couldn’t put down. Fans of suspense with a twist of dark humor will love this book!
ADORED THIS! So fun, reminded me very much of Sweetpea but if the main character was a girl’s girl. Very very “good for her” - makes me want to re watch Promising Young Woman. Also felt like a very timely read given recent political events
Pulled me in right away! The main character is fearless, and I loved following her through all the action and suspense. The story had a great mix of humor and danger, making it a fun and thrilling read. A few parts were a bit over-the-top, but it kept me hooked the whole way. A solid pick for anyone wanting a fast-paced, exciting story with a strong lead!
This Girl's A Killer is a book in which our protaganist, Cordelia, is a murderer. This is not a spoiler; the book opens with her telling us this herself. Despite this, you can't help but root for her. Cordelia is an incredibly compelling character, and without even meaning to, I found myself hoping that she would manage to pull it all together. Despite the subject matter, I found myself having a good time in this book. It felt to me a bit light-hearted for the subject matter it covered, but despite that, I really enjoyed this book; it was a fun read that I could absolutely imagine being perfect for a beach read. I do wish it had gone a bit deeper into some subjects, such as the main character's backstory or how she and her best friend's history together, but overall an enjoyable read and one I would recommend.

REVIEWT
hanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've always seen and stayed away from books with a killer as a protagonist. I gave it another try this time, and I can say I'm biased in the sense that I don't like genres like this. That being said, my review.
🔪🔪
I liked reading the book, especially when the FMC got shaky, nervous, and scared. I really gobbled up the pages to see if she would be caught, and I was somehow pleased with the ending. I liked the author's writing and the pace of the book, the characters? Not so much.
🔪🔪
I understand what Cordelia was doing, but I don't think she has the correct intentions especially when it comes to Diane and Samantha. Another thing, there's no way you do this kind of thing and it wouldn't affect you negatively. And I felt like she got sloppy in the end. The author described the murders, but I would have also liked the description of the monsters' evil acts.
🔪🔪
One thing this book was sorely lacking was history. Cordelia's history, her childhood and what made into what she was. I would have really liked that and it would have explained somethings for me.
🔪🔪
I didn't really like the ending because I felt like it was 'convenient' for the main problem of the book was a 'monster' too. I felt like the author tried to make excuses for Cordelia's unhingedness.
🔪🔪
My favorite thing about the book is Cordelia's found family of her best friend, Diane and her daughter, Samantha. I loved their relationship.

This book was not my favorite, but you can read it if you like books with genres like this.
What a fun read!
Cordelia Black really reminded me of Dexter Morgan and I loved that. She is a powerhouse at her job and yet she's hiding that she's a serial killer.
Despite being a serial killer, Cordelia is mostly likeable and as the reader, we understand her rationale. I couldn't help but root for her throughout the book.
This was a fast paced thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and I would recommend it!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for an arc of this
A unique read! Shout out for calling out the Brock Turners of the world. May he get the karma he deserves. I really enjoyed this one. I could have done without the constant, if you live in a trailer, you must be trash stereotype over and over, but otherwise, I enjoyed it!
Thank you to NetGalley, Emma C. Wells and Poisoned Pen Press for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.
This was fun! There are more and more books about killers killing bad guys and I really enjoy them overall. This was a wild ride that gave me anxiety all the way. The characters are fun and well developed and the twists were great!
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
First and foremost I'd like to say the phrase 'I support women's rights but more importantly I support women's wrongs' is the perfect way to describe this book and I was so here for it. This was so much fun! By day Cordelia Black is a fiercely loyal best friend and godmother but by night she's a killer of bad men. This book will have you absolutely rooting for the serial killer, you might just find yourself cheering to yourself as the story goes on. If you're looking for a fun, quick, easy read about a truly unhinged vigilante female serial killer than look no further as this was addictive and entertaining from the start to finish.
Cordelia Black uses designer clothes and her flawless reputation as a drug rep as a cover for her real passion - killing bad men. While I loved the “Dexter” vibes of taking back control and taking things in your own hands, this book was lacking on a few aspects for me to really love it. I needed a better back story for Cordelia - as a reader all we really get is that she had a “bad childhood” with generic bad mom, drugs and abuse but never really get any scene to really justify her rage. No sort of psychological or emotional explanation which felt unfinished to me. The other part I struggled with was the overall vibes and mood of the book, it felt like it was trying too hard to be light and funny (think Finlay Donovan) but it missed that mark and landed somewhere between dark and delusional. Otherwise, I was fairly entertained, and enjoyed the plot and how hard Cordelia fought for the ones she loves, however misguided. I listened to this one on audio and I think it did the job, but wasn’t overly remarkable.
This book was absolutely phenomenal and such a crazy ride. I enjoyed every second of reading this book!
Behind every mysteriously disappeared man is an equally mysterious woman, and in the case of the serial missing men in Louisiana that mysterious woman is Cordelia Black. I loved the main character; she was confident, quirky, crazy and fabulous. The novel has great moments of horror, dark humor, and psychological twists, not to mention nods towards Taylor Swift! A lot of Cordelia's self monologues are repetitions of the same thoughts but later when she starts to unravel you notice how her speeches change and more truths come out so there is a good pay off to it. The only aspect of the book that I didn't fully grasp was the smoke in the eyes that Cordelia sees in bad men. I was waiting for an anti-hero with super powers explanation but it never came, so I am chalking up the phenomenon as Cordelia being a bit of a false narrator. Which shouldn't surprise me really considering that she is a serial killer who has to lie to everyone in her life to protect herself from her crimes.
I really wanted to like this. The premise was good and I really liked the idea of the vigilante justice against predators. This woman was a hunter and a very well accessorized one at that. I think if it would have been the split between pharm rep by day and hunter on the side, it would have been fine. The repetitive diatribes about her feelings and thoughts and the continuous mention of some paperwork needing signed was so mind numbingly painful to read. The last 20% or so of this book it really started to pick up and became more thrilling. The book really just did not work for me at the end of the day. It lacked execution and was just all over the place. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

This was a really captivating read!! I’ll never turn down a book about serial killers who kill bad people, because doesn’t everyone dream of a world where that can happen??
This Girl’s a Killer was a really strong debut! I loved Cordelia’s character - she was strong, determined, and unapologetic. I did find myself getting irritated when she’d make mistakes or start getting sloppy, but no one is perfect! I thought she was powerful and I really appreciated her relationship with her best friend and god-daughter, they were such an adorable trio, and I would’ve loved more Sugar content.
The overarching story was really easy to become invested in - I kept turning the pages, determined to know what would happen next, and I really appreciated the ending. I did think there were a couple of loose ends that could’ve been tied up, but overall I was happy with the plot of the novel - it was lots of fun.
I do have to say that I wasn’t surprised by majority of the plot twists - they were a bit basic and easy to guess, but nonetheless I enjoyed. Overall, a captivating read!
Think Dexter, but make him female! This was captivating read that had me hooked from the beginning. If you like female rage and dark humor, a la Butcher and Blackbird, you'll love this one!
I was pulled in from the first and wasn’t let go until the last. This is a new to me author, and I can’t wait to read more of her works. With all the twists and turns and suspense going on this had me on the edge of my seat. I hope there is going to be more to this story. I will definitely be looking forward to it.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
The book had a strong start and kept me hooked until around the 75% mark. Cordelia Black was initially portrayed as a character with a clear plan, but as the story progressed, her decisions became increasingly impulsive and chaotic. Additionally, there were several underdeveloped side plots, with a noticeable lack of background information to fully explain certain elements, leaving parts of the story feeling incomplete.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the neighbor's dog, Mango. The scenes with Mango added a charming touch that brought some lightness to the story. I found myself looking forward to every time Mango appeared—it was a delightful break from the intensity of the main plot.
Overall, 3 Stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the eARC.
This was an entertaining read, and I’m surprised it’s a debut novel—the writing was excellent!
The protagonist, Cordelia Black, reminded me of a female Dexter, targeting and murdering bad men. She was a fascinating and complex character.
The plot was thrilling and suspenseful, though I felt like the book was a bit too long. That said, I’d definitely recommend this book to thriller fans. I’m excited to read the author’s next book!
