This book reminded me a little of the Dexter series, but definitely stands on its own. It kept my attention throughout the book and I was thoroughly invested in the characters. I’ll be watching for more books by this author in the future.

Cordelia Black is one of my most favorite morally gray main characters in ages. She's Regina George AND Cady Heron, she's a polished Miranda, selfish Carrie, etc you get it, she's a Queen B and a Killer B and girl owns it. Even through all her planning and stalking of targets, you can't help but root for her. Even when she's being, honestly, a bit of a bitch to people who don't actually deserve it, you still can't help but like her a little. She's snooty but it feels like she's earned it. You want to see her win against the 'real' bad guys in this book.

Wells keeps the story moving along quickly as well, and it was difficult for me to have to stop each time while reading because nowhere felt like a great place to stop - not when I wanted to know so badly what happens next. Not that there are many surprises! It is a predictable story, but still thrilling and a whole lot of fun to read through. This is a book that is about the journey, not the destination.

The story itself reminds me a lot of a more palatable and, well, feminist, version of American Psycho. Cordelia goes through some loss of sanity herself. There's a side story with a dog, Mango, that for some reason reminded me of the whole squirrel bit in American Psycho (no worries, Mango gets a happy ending, because she's an adorable dog so of course she does).

I genuinely really enjoyed this story. It's funny, it's fun, it's well written and I am HERE for a feminist serial killer and how satisfying it was to read haha

From the very first page, the reader is brought into the chaotic world of Cordelia Black.

Reminiscent of the TV show "Dexter", this is a female serial killer, who only kills evil men, men who like to hurt women.

However, the book details how everything in Cordelia's carefully controlled world is about to implode. From her work, to personal, to dating, and even neighbors all turn into mini dramas.

The book reads like a soap opera. However, it was very fast paced and the reader could feel the tension building as one more thing went wrong.

I hope that the author brings the character back for more books.

The only troubling thing is the dating scene with McSmiley, that character was not as good as he could have been and basically disappeared half way through the book.

this book was okay! it starts out very, VERY slow. i don't think it actually picked up until almost halfway through, which felt like a waste to me at that point but i was already in it so i kept going. i absolutely did not care for cordelia at all, she came off as shallow and kind of annoying. not my favorite debut.

Unfortunately this one didn’t really do it for me. I didn’t connect with the characters and I think it was quite predictable. Was very easy to read though!

Cordelia Black has everything under control: she and her best friend are tight, her goddaughter loves her, she’s a successful pharmaceutical sales rep, and she kills people occasionally and gets away with it. That is, until Simon, the guy her best friend is dating, comes into the picture, and everything starts going sideways.

This was a thrill to read. I love serial killer fmcs, and this is just along the likes to Butcher & Blackbird and the Mindf*ck series—women killing men. I will always support women’s rights and women’s wrongs. It starts off like any other day, except things go wrong little by little until it snowballed into one huge problem. The writing hooked me in, if I were to be honest, because it wasn’t as dark as the book’s themes. Mostly, it focused on Cordelia’s civilian life and how her side hustle interfered with it. What made this interesting for me was that all of Cordelia’s problems were, of course, serious and life-threatening, but what upped the stakes was her mundane life—hairdresser appointments, the guy she was dating, handyman, a nosy neighbour, a random old cat lady at the supermarket. It’s literally just like any other person’s bad day or week. Equally serious and relatable.

Also, I just found out this was actually the author’s debut? Honestly a solid debut. I loved all the characters; they were all relatable in way or another.

The resolution was mostly focused on Cordelia and Diane’s relationship, as well as Cordelia’s comeback with her unaliving business. I did wish to have seen a little bit of her relationship with Christopher and with Sugar, and what exactly happened with the Bosephan problem, but nonetheless, I enjoyed the book.

There are some things that still need to be tightened up (and I'm not sure that I needed the whole "smoke in the eyes of the bad guy" thing), but the premise and story are solid and entertaining.

I loved this! It’s fun, it’s murder-y, it’s about friendship, and it takes a few shocking turns. Honestly, I can’t believe it’s a debut novel.

Cordelia Black has it all - a great job that pays well, a best friend who she loves like a sister, a Goddaughter who she spoils, and a hobby that keeps her busy and fulfilled. It doesn’t matter one bit that her hobby involves killing because she only kills bad men. That doesn’t even count as bad, right? She’s doing the world a favor by ridding it of these subpar humans. Her only rule is that she never kill someone unless they fit her criteria of bad. And every murder must be well planned. So when things go wrong with one of her killings, she must think, think, think of how to get herself out of this mess.

I love the drama , the action and the laughter you get from this book , it is about our main character Cordelia Black who is not your average person, she is a business woman and a killer who gets rid of bad men. ( okay queen ) lol.

What a fun story! I am always up for female vigilante, serial killer stories and even more when it's done in a humorous way! I loved Cordelia and her relationship with Diane and Sugar. I enjoyed the scenes with Sugar, she was hilarious and so smart. I would have loved to see a little bit more action around the Killing got justice scenes and get a better glimpse of Cordelia's past as well. However, that being said, I read this in a day - could not put it down!

This book was ok.
Very slow- it wasn’t until 3/4 of the book that I got into it.
I love a good vigilante book, but this just didn’t quite do it for me. I didn’t like Cordelia’s character, I didn’t like how the book mentions her past multiple times, but does not explain it. I didn’t like how it was left with Christopher or the neighbour, I think those loose ends needed sorting.

I liked the relationship Cordelia had with Diane & Sugar.

I understand why people would enjoy book. First, it's important to know that this isn't a deep-dive exploration into the mind of a serial killer. It is campy and entertaining, but a third could probably be cut due to the repetitive thought spirals and half-finished plot threads. Even though the main story was predictable, I found myself wanting to continue reading. The main character isn't quite likable - at times you'll root for her and other times you'll want her to get caught. It's worth a read if you like thrillers with strong female leads.

The premise of a woman killing bad men is a heady one in this debut novel. But the writing couldn’t hold my attention so I found myself skimming pages, and the main character was someone I didn’t like so there was no emotional attachment as to what happened to her.

This book had a slow start and I almost put it down and didn't finish. It did get better and was an enjoyable read.
