Cordelia Black's a pharmaceutical rep but she'also a killer but we aren't surprised about this right?
Yes she's a killer because she kills bad people and it was so refreshing to read about her because she has flaws but she can also be a good best friend,a sort of antihero with humor. She thought she had everything under her control but then life happens with new surprises that could risk to compromise her life so what will happen now?
Emma Wells congratulations on your debut because it was a killing one!
The writing was simple and direct, the plot was interesting and refreshing in fact the story will keep your attention until the end!
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review

Cordelia is a pharmaceutical rep by day and killer of bad men by night. She has a great job, a great best friend and the best god-daughter that she loves to death. The first half of this book is a wild ride that lets you see the life of Cordelia and how she picks her victims and how she disposes them. There are also some quirky parts that make you laugh and keep the story a little more grounded. Then everything starts to unravel and Cordelia's life starts to fall apart fast. It was one bad decision after another. The second half of the book started to fall a little flat for me and there was a lot of redundancy for me. She just kept making mistakes and the way she tried to cover them up was insane at time. But I will say, you will want to keep reading until the end. The only reason I give this book a three star review is that there were a lot of things left unanswered for me with this book. What happened with McSmiley, the blackmail, the pharmaceutical lawsuit.....
The actor wrote this book well and I think it is worth a read if you love Dexter with a female twist.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Not to be that person, but this definitely felt like a Dexter rip off, and not in a good way. I love Dexter and was HOPING for this, but it felt too similar to stand out on its own.
And yes, I'm going to get crap for this, but there is just no way I can believe a smaller female could be lugging those huge men around and getting them on tables to kill. It's just implausible to me. And I love the idea of a strong female lead, but it was just too much.
I can't tell if she was supposed to be likable or not. Some chapters I'd be like okay she's kind of funny, then other's I'm like "why does this feel forced?" This isn't a reason to deduct points, and I didn't, but I couldn't stand the name SUGAR for the daughter's nickname. I don't know. It just felt so forced. A lot felt forced.
I don't know. Some parts were really interesting-her meeting Simon for the first time-but other times just lacked and I was bored.
Overall, I would still give this author a shot at another book. Maybe this just wasn't for me.

"This Girl's a Killer" is a great female revenge story in the genre of shows like Dexter. Cordelia Black is a forceful lead character and her relationship with her roommate who may or may not be dating a serial killer is highly enjoyable (& tense). If you're a fan of strong female leads who seek retribution over justice, don't miss this! Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC. Pub Date: Oct 29th 2024

I loved this book. Cordelia was a wonderfully complex character and I couldn’t stop reading to see what she would do next. The plot was perfectly dark and full of twists. Definitely a five star read for me.

This book reminded me a little of the Dexter series, but definitely stands on its own. It kept my attention throughout the book and I was thoroughly invested in the characters. I’ll be watching for more books by this author in the future.

Cordelia Black is one of my most favorite morally gray main characters in ages. She's Regina George AND Cady Heron, she's a polished Miranda, selfish Carrie, etc you get it, she's a Queen B and a Killer B and girl owns it. Even through all her planning and stalking of targets, you can't help but root for her. Even when she's being, honestly, a bit of a bitch to people who don't actually deserve it, you still can't help but like her a little. She's snooty but it feels like she's earned it. You want to see her win against the 'real' bad guys in this book.
Wells keeps the story moving along quickly as well, and it was difficult for me to have to stop each time while reading because nowhere felt like a great place to stop - not when I wanted to know so badly what happens next. Not that there are many surprises! It is a predictable story, but still thrilling and a whole lot of fun to read through. This is a book that is about the journey, not the destination.
The story itself reminds me a lot of a more palatable and, well, feminist, version of American Psycho. Cordelia goes through some loss of sanity herself. There's a side story with a dog, Mango, that for some reason reminded me of the whole squirrel bit in American Psycho (no worries, Mango gets a happy ending, because she's an adorable dog so of course she does).
I genuinely really enjoyed this story. It's funny, it's fun, it's well written and I am HERE for a feminist serial killer and how satisfying it was to read haha

From the very first page, the reader is brought into the chaotic world of Cordelia Black.
Reminiscent of the TV show "Dexter", this is a female serial killer, who only kills evil men, men who like to hurt women.
However, the book details how everything in Cordelia's carefully controlled world is about to implode. From her work, to personal, to dating, and even neighbors all turn into mini dramas.
The book reads like a soap opera. However, it was very fast paced and the reader could feel the tension building as one more thing went wrong.
I hope that the author brings the character back for more books.
The only troubling thing is the dating scene with McSmiley, that character was not as good as he could have been and basically disappeared half way through the book.

this book was okay! it starts out very, VERY slow. i don't think it actually picked up until almost halfway through, which felt like a waste to me at that point but i was already in it so i kept going. i absolutely did not care for cordelia at all, she came off as shallow and kind of annoying. not my favorite debut.

Unfortunately this one didn’t really do it for me. I didn’t connect with the characters and I think it was quite predictable. Was very easy to read though!

Thank you to @emma.c.wells.books , @poisonedpenpress and @netgalley for the ARC of this upcoming thriller!! This is definitely a 4.5 stars from me.
Cordelia Black isn’t someone who lets things happen. She makes it happen. She is controlled and principled. She cares very deeply for her best friend Diane and her goddaughter. She’s also a serial killer. Who only preys on those who prey on others. She’s worked very hard to earn the life she lives. And no one will take that from her.
Until Simon enters the picture. Is Simon the unicorn Diane has been looking for? Or is he just a horse masquerading in a party hat? He seems off. Not quite a predator but not right either. Can Cordelia play nice? I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Cordelia was going to get caught. Especially when she started seeing officer McSmiley.
I’m so impressed with this debut novel. I’m hoping for more stories about Cordelia Black and her crew.

By day, Cordelia Black is a pharmaceutical rep, by night, she serves revenge on men who have it coming. While the news is talking about the likelihood of a serial killer, Cordelia believes she is justified in her killing of these men. When her best friend starts to date a man that she believes is no good, Cordelia's plans for vengeance are at risk. She must keep herself safe while figuring out how to continue fighting to keep women safe

If you are looking for dark humor, This Girl’s a Killer is the book for you. Despite Cordelia’s difficult upbringing, she has worked her way into a successful and lucrative career and a supportive foundation family. She even has a hobby to help her blow off steam—killing abusive men.
When alarm bells ring over her best friend’s new boyfriend, Cordelia’s hobby collides with the rest of her life in the worst way.
Humorous and a little tense, This Girl’s a Killer is a great read.

Cordelia Black has everything under control: she and her best friend are tight, her goddaughter loves her, she’s a successful pharmaceutical sales rep, and she kills people occasionally and gets away with it. That is, until Simon, the guy her best friend is dating, comes into the picture, and everything starts going sideways.
This was a thrill to read. I love serial killer fmcs, and this is just along the likes to Butcher & Blackbird and the Mindf*ck series—women killing men. I will always support women’s rights and women’s wrongs. It starts off like any other day, except things go wrong little by little until it snowballed into one huge problem. The writing hooked me in, if I were to be honest, because it wasn’t as dark as the book’s themes. Mostly, it focused on Cordelia’s civilian life and how her side hustle interfered with it. What made this interesting for me was that all of Cordelia’s problems were, of course, serious and life-threatening, but what upped the stakes was her mundane life—hairdresser appointments, the guy she was dating, handyman, a nosy neighbour, a random old cat lady at the supermarket. It’s literally just like any other person’s bad day or week. Equally serious and relatable.
Also, I just found out this was actually the author’s debut? Honestly a solid debut. I loved all the characters; they were all relatable in way or another.
The resolution was mostly focused on Cordelia and Diane’s relationship, as well as Cordelia’s comeback with her unaliving business. I did wish to have seen a little bit of her relationship with Christopher and with Sugar, and what exactly happened with the Bosephan problem, but nonetheless, I enjoyed the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Press for the ARC! :>

There are some things that still need to be tightened up (and I'm not sure that I needed the whole "smoke in the eyes of the bad guy" thing), but the premise and story are solid and entertaining.
3.5 stars rounded up, because who doesn't like a woman who gets things done?
Kindly received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this! It’s fun, it’s murder-y, it’s about friendship, and it takes a few shocking turns. Honestly, I can’t believe it’s a debut novel.
Cordelia Black has it all - a great job that pays well, a best friend who she loves like a sister, a Goddaughter who she spoils, and a hobby that keeps her busy and fulfilled. It doesn’t matter one bit that her hobby involves killing because she only kills bad men. That doesn’t even count as bad, right? She’s doing the world a favor by ridding it of these subpar humans. Her only rule is that she never kill someone unless they fit her criteria of bad. And every murder must be well planned. So when things go wrong with one of her killings, she must think, think, think of how to get herself out of this mess.
This book is fantastic! The writing is superb and the plot is to “die for”. I very highly recommend this one. Thank you, NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the eARC.

This book is a game changer in the thriller genre, introducing an antiheroine who is both ruthless and relatable. Cordelia Black is a complex and intriguing character, with a wit as sharp as her killer instincts. The author masterfully balances humor and suspense, creating a narrative that is both darkly comedic and intensely thrilling.
The writing is razor-sharp, with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the human psyche. The supporting cast is well-developed, with Cordelia's chosen family and friends adding depth to the story.
The plot is expertly paced, with twists and turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats. The themes of feminism, control, and morality are thought-provoking and timely.
Overall, this book is a must-read for fans of thrillers with a strong female lead. With its biting humor, taut plotting, and unapologetic feminism, this debut novel is a force to be reckoned with.

I love the drama , the action and the laughter you get from this book , it is about our main character Cordelia Black who is not your average person, she is a business woman and a killer who gets rid of bad men. ( okay queen ) lol.
This is a unputdownable book , you get immersed into the story and it is a fast paced read! I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent reading this and I need more of this book 🫣 I love the friendship between Cordelia and her best friend / God daughter . I see that is a Debut and I am sending all my best wishes to the author Emma C. Wells !
Thank you to Netgalley , the publisher and author for this E-Arc!

"This Girl's a Killer" by Emma C. Wells is a thrilling and darkly humorous novel. And there's a content warning at the beginning for a reason. Wells has crafted a unique and compelling protagonist in Cordelia Black, a woman who leads a double life as a successful pharmaceutical representative by day and a vigilante killer by night.
The author's crisp, witty prose brings Cordelia to life, making her both relatable and enigmatic. Despite her morally questionable actions, readers will find themselves rooting for this complex anti-heroine as she navigates the line between justice and vengeance.
Wells expertly builds tension throughout the novel, particularly as Cordelia's carefully constructed world begins to unravel. The introduction of her best friend's new boyfriend adds an intriguing layer of suspense and moral ambiguity to the plot, forcing Cordelia to confront her own beliefs and motivations.
Fans of dark comedy and unconventional thrillers will find much to love in this gripping novel.

What a fun story! I am always up for female vigilante, serial killer stories and even more when it's done in a humorous way! I loved Cordelia and her relationship with Diane and Sugar. I enjoyed the scenes with Sugar, she was hilarious and so smart. I would have loved to see a little bit more action around the Killing got justice scenes and get a better glimpse of Cordelia's past as well. However, that being said, I read this in a day - could not put it down!
Thank you NetGalley and publishers for the chance to read this ARC!
