How can I trust you by AJ Campbell took me a superb psychological thriller of a ride! Loved the characters, the setting and the story. Highly recommend!
Sometimes, in a book, when someone explains something, I suddenly realise I'm kinda dumb. And that's how I felt every single time Ashley or anyone spoke about their job. The words were all in English, but my brain gave up like I was attempting to read Chinese.
The rest of the book was brilliant. I loved the air of mystery to it and how it all played out. And you know a book is good when you are suspicious of everyone.
This was another great read from my fellow Essex girl and I can't wait to see what's next.
Wow! This was my first AJ Campbell novel but definitely not my last. The storyline and characters were totally captivating. Packed with tension and twists. Totally enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley, AJ Campbell and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this cracker of a book.

How Can I Trust You? Was a great twisty read. It definitely did not go where I was expecting it, but that’s the mark of a solid thriller.
Ashley and Danny are a married couple, seemingly happy, with a young son who see their idyllic country life get upended when Danny’s friend Lucy is murdered… by him? As Ashley tries to solve the mystery she also find a lot of reasons not to trust Danny. But if you have ever met someone with the perfect excuses, it’s easy to put concerns aside until that person isn’t around to supply the perfect explanation. This story benefited from playing on that and keeping the reader just questioning enough as to who was the real suspect.
Recommend for any thriller reader!
Don’t you just want to grab this, switch off the phone and curl up on the sofa
By far one of my favourite books I've read this year… I loved every minute…
A stunning thriller! Centring around the murder at a birthday party, suddenly noone knows who they can trust! It took me on a wild ride and had some twists I didn’t expect! Loved it.
Wow that was a roller-coaster of a novel that I've just got off with my heart beating faster than 30 minutes on a treadmill!
The novel surrounds Ashley and Danny who are married and also business partners that attend a friends daughters birthday party where a murder takes place. The story unravels with many layers of mystery which made me put my deerhunter hat on to solve alongside Ashley as I read.
'How Can I Trust You?' Is exactly what a thriller should be. So many twist and turns and just when I thought I had worked out the truth BAM yet another twist. What an absolutely exhilarating ride.
You will now find me in a book coma and require 5-7 business days to recover.
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and AJ Campbell for the opportunity of advancing a copy of 'How Can I Trust You?'
Ashley and Danny and their 9 year old son, Elliott live in the tranquil village of Thyme End, where manicured lawns line the streets, where a shocking crime shattered the community's sense of peace and security.
On this fateful day when tragedy struck. One of their friends, Lucy was found brutally murdered, leaving the village in a state of shock and disbelief. The police investigation immediately turned its attention to Danny, who became the prime suspect in the murder.
The dark secrets and lies that had been hidden, begin to unravel, revealing a twisted tale of betrayal and deceit. Ashley is left questioning herself, do you ever truly know anyone?
AJ Campbell creates captivating and suspenseful stories and weaves intricate plots, creating unforgettable characters, and keeps readers guessing and on the edge of their seats til the very end with twists and turns that defy expectations. Each page brings new revelations, leaving readers eagerly anticipating what will happen next.
This has to be my new favourite book of AJ Campbells. It was absolutely brilliant and I couldn’t stop reading it !
Thank you AJ, NetGalley & Bookouture for an early copy.
Ashley and Danny go to a party put on by their friend Lucy and her husband, Lee. Ashley hears screams and finds her husband standing over a dead Lucy with a hammer in his hand. Did he kill her? After Danny is arrested, Ashley finds out so many things her husband has been keeping from her. To top it off, he gets mad at her for thinking he may be guilty! I was just in disbelief about that. He lies to her about numerous things and then has the gall to be mad at her after all his lies. Comes out that Lucy was having an affair and helping a friend who was dying-is that why someone killed her? Poor Ashley's life is ripped out from under her by the end of the book. Little slow in the middle. It was ok.
Thank you to Netgallery and the publisher for this ARC. The publication date is 8th April! This is the first book I’ve read from this author to say I’m a fan would be understatement! I loved this book there were many intriguing moments as well as many twists and turns that kept me eagerly turning the pages!
My favourite character was Ashley she had been through a lot and at times I found myself wondering what would I do if I was in this situation.
Overall, an addictive reading that made it impossible to put down! If you don’t read this book when it comes out you really are missing out! 😊
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of How Can I Trust You? by AJ Campbell due to be published April 8, 2024.
Ashley and Danny are at the home of Danny’s childhood friend, Lucy, and her husband Lee celebrating their daughter’s birthday. Ashley hears screams, goes to the garage, and finds Lucy dead with her husband standing over her. Did he kill her or was he trying to save her?
I had read one book by A.J. Campbell, The Wrong Key, so I was anxious to try another one.
I will say this started out well but dragged a little in the middle for me. I did get to know a lot about the characters, though, and how they interacted with each other. Also, Ashley would go back and forth about whether or not she thought Danny was guilty.
There were lots of secrets and lies in How Can I Trust You? and some twists I definitely didn’t see coming at the end.
Even though this one was not as good as the other one I read, I will still be looking for more books from this author. The end was pretty amazing!
