Lucy is killed at her daughter's birthday party. Her best friend is arrested for the murder.
Ashley is shocked that her husband, Danny has been arrested, but she saw him, standing over Lucy's body, covered in blood.
She knows that Danny has changed since they moved to his old home town from London, but could he be guilty of such a heinous deed?
She does some snooping, and does not like what she finds, she has been lied to and there are many secrets that have been kept from her.
An amazingly twisty psychological thriller! How well do you know someone that you have spent half of your life with?
How can you tell if they are lying to you?
Ashley is an inherently honest person, but for the sake of her husband and her son, she has told lies that really grate her.
I started this book before I went to sleep. I did not want to put it down and read it well into the night!
This is a binge-worthy thriller that will hook you from the first chapter.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
This book kept me reading and wanting to find out who the killer was, so points for that! However sadly there were no twists...it just seemed to be a long list of Ashley finding out Danny was keeping secrets from her, then Danny having an explanation. Even the killer wasn't a twist! Which was a shame.
Overall I loved this heart-stopping psychological thriller about a woman whose husband is found standing over the dead body of her best friend. It was highly suspenseful right from the beginning and the murder happened swiftly, with just the right amount of build-up. I loved how each character had something to hide and how each managed to bring their own relevant information to the table at just the right times to move the story forward. I felt really immersed in the small town setting where everyone knows everyone and all the town’s gossip.
Additionally I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style with vivid descriptions such as: “Ashley steps into the bustling tent of around sixty guests engaged in lively banter, the hum of intermingling voices with intermittent raucous laughter playing with her senses.”
However, I didn’t like the mention of covid or the song titles and artists as I felt this aged the book. I think this book could have been truly timeless if these recent references hadn’t been made.
I loved how Ashley was a reliable narrator! I feel that so many psychological thrillers have unreliable narrators so this was a nice change.
I didn’t like how the majority the book was set in Ashley’s house with her trying to find clues because it slowed the pace a little. However, that being said, I enjoyed how each chapter ended on a mini cliffhanger or with new information being revealed which meant I couldn’t put the book down.
Ultimately this book is a must read for any psychological thriller lover. It has heaps of twists and turns and a great ending so I highly recommend it!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've read many by this author and I'm sure this is her best yet. I couldn't put it down, Did he didn't he? That is the question, which wasn't answered until the end.
I personally found this book a little hard to read as it tended to jump a little bit. It didn't get me hooked straight away but was still an enjoyable read.
I have just finished an exhilarating rollercoaster of a novel that left my pulse racing. "How Can I Trust You?" surrounds married couple and business partners Ashley and Danny. While attending a friend's daughter's birthday party, a murder occurs, setting off a multi-layered mystery. As the plot unfurled, I was drawn to solve the case alongside protagonist Ashley. This thriller truly delivers with its endless twists and turns. When I believed I had uncovered the truth, the author introduced another unexpected twist. "How Can I Trust You?" is a superbly crafted page-turner that keeps readers guessing until the last page. I highly recommend it if you enjoy a good page-turner.

I am definitely in the minority with this book. I really had to push through with this one and I made myself pick it up just so I could be done. I can not even pin point why other than the characters especially Ashley were just annoying. I hate giving bad reviews and people seem to love the book, just wasn’t for me.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this copy!

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
OMG you want to read this book!!!! It is an awesome read!
A birthday party and her husband is found in the garage holding a hammer covered in blood with Lucy dead. He says he was trying to save her but then why are the cops taking him away? Was he having an affair? Did he murdered her? His wife must keep their business going while he is being investigated but even then she discovers secrets- does she even know the man she is married to? Grab this book for a page turner!
The story revolves around Ashley and Danny. Ashley not that bothered about the birthday party they are attending, but her sons excited her husbands (it's a nine year olds party) excited and at least her sisters coming, so Ashley puts on a brave face and listens to her husband go on about one day they will have a big house and cars like Lee. No one knew that the party would end the way it did. No one knew Ashley's best friend would be dead at the end of it.
Omg it was a roller coaster of a book, it down it was up, twists and turns, I don't know how @ajcampbellauthor does it, but it was another excellent page turner, and just when you thought you'd cracked it bam
Thank you, Amanda, for allowing me to be part of the reviews. It was a fabulous book and, as always, written so well with the reader in mind. Would love to be in your brain when you come up with these ideas, hahaha.
This was my first book by AJ Campbell and I can’t wait to read more! This book was so good I couldn’t put it down!
Man this books had me on the edge of my seat from the beginning. Books like this have me telling my friends so they can read it and we can have something interesting to discuss. Definitely earned my 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
She has only gone and done it again! Blooming brilliant read by A. J. Campbell. Every single time I though I had got the plot twist, it veered off in a different direction. I was kept guessing until the very end!
Adored Ashley, particulalry her relationship with Suzie, disliked Danny and undecided on Tom even with the book finished! Definitely give this a read!
A gripping beginning of suspense and murder, the middle seemed confusing,
then with a good ending. Overall a good action story, I recommend.
Given arc by Net Galley and Bookouture for my voluntary review.
Rating: ★★★
I have mixed feelings on How Can I Trust You?, though it is important to note that this review is entirely my own subjective opinion and is not reflective of the book at all. The writing was solid, and the suspense built up fairly well. Despite this, I found this mystery lacking in surprising plot twists and anything that was particularly thrilling. Though the culprit was fairly easy to discern, the climax still packed a decent punch, which I appreciated.
The characters felt slightly flat at times and I personally found it challenging to connect to any of them. The whole cheating husband angle additionally felt a little overused and predictable, but despite these drawbacks, the book was okay overall. It's not one I'd rush to read again, and it didn't become a favorite, but I didn't hate it either. It's just a decent read that provided some entertainment without leaving a lasting impression.
Thank you for the ARC!
You know sometimes you start reading a book and you get book tingles - I got them here! This was a simple yet complex story that was delivered excellently. The mystery was waved in and out of a domestic story that really got me addicted… Who do you trust? Who do you believe? What is going on?! How I love books that make you doubt yourself and your own mind! The characters are well developed, relatable and believable; Ashley is a great narrator and carries the story well.
As always AJ writing is sublime, immersing and catches your emotions in a tight grip and doesn’t let go till the very last page.
With thanks to author AJ Campbell and Bookouture for allowing me to read this one early!

How Can I Trust You by AJ Campbell is a typical trope and not anything new. How Can I Trust You is an okay read but was not the "addictive or unputdownable thriller" as advertised.
The story had some good moments but not enough to leave a lasting impression or have me think about the book after I was done.
