I think there's a lot of potential in the books in these series. Nikki is an intriguing and well rounded characters, a carreer oriented women.
These books are page turners that keeps you turning pages even if there's a sort of template that is common to all three novels.
I enjoyed, had fun and was kept guessing.
This is a review for all the three novels.
3.5 upped to 4
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Second in the Detective Nikki Cassidy. Very similar to the first in the series and yet it remained just as gripping. Highly unlikely that a detective would be so closely involved is my only criticism. Great writing and I will read the third in the series.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookoutre for providing me with an Advance Reader's Copy in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
Title: "Last One To Die" by Dana Perry - A Gripping Thriller of Unresolved Mysteries
In "Last One To Die" by Dana Perry, FBI agent Nikki Cassidy returns to the haunting streets of Groveton, Ohio, where another unsolved murder echoes the tragedy of her past. When straight-A student Jessica Stanley's lifeless body is discovered, Nikki's relentless pursuit of justice leads her down a dark and dangerous path.
Perry masterfully intertwines Nikki's personal demons with the chilling mystery of Jessica's death, creating a gripping narrative that keeps readers on edge. As Nikki delves deeper into the case, she uncovers a web of secrets and a killer who plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse.
The tension is palpable as Nikki races against time, facing the possibility that the killer may be closer than she ever imagined. Perry's writing is sharp and evocative, drawing readers into a world of suspense and intrigue that will leave them guessing until the final twist.
"Last One To Die" is a must-read for fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni, and Kendra Elliot, delivering a thrilling experience that will keep readers turning pages late into the night.

Ok, so I’d really really love this trilogy if the repetition wasn’t there. I loved the plot and definitely wanted to know more, but as I kept reading the amount of times that was repeated it really got under my skin. There’s a great story here, just needs some revisions on repetition. It would really hold readers a lot more in my opinion.
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't really looking forward to reading book 2 in this series. However, my mind did change. There was a lot of reference to the previous book and the murder of Caitlin Cassidy, almost to much if that's possible. The storyline was almost a copy and paste from the last book. There was a man who confessed to the murder of a young girl only to recant the story many years later. The writing style is the same as in the last book. There was alot of repeating the same information over and over again. I'm not sure I care for the main character Nikki Cassidy though. There is just something about her I don't care for. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder. There is one thing that is for sure NIKKI CASSIDY = CHAOS TO THE MAX. The plot twist was very satisfying though, I did not see that coming whatsoever. I had to stop reading and process it for several minutes. Though most of the book was slow and drawn-out, I still wanted to see how it ended only to be left on another cliffhanger. This one was better than the last one that's for sure. I'm not as hesitant to read the next one.
3.5 ⭐️
Thank you to Booktoure and NetGalley for sending this advanced copy of Last One To Die ahead of it's release date.
Last One To Die will be available April 2, 2024 along with The Nowhere Girls (Book 1).
Book 2 in the Detective Nikki Cassidy series! This one follows the same type of story as the first. There is a missing and murdered teen that leaves Nikki wondering if a killer is back. She jumps into investigating security cameras and ends up finding some interesting info from those. She isn't closer to solving the case, but her and her colleagues are starting to identify what type of person is behind this crime.
There are some references from the previous book in this one and it almost seems like the same things will happen in this book as the last but a few twists gives us a different kind of ending than what we would expect.
You could read this one as a standalone but if you want to read the whole series, read them in order :)
Fast paced mystery that keeps you guessing. I'm very invested in Nikki at this stage and I want all the answers. There are a few surprises I didn't see coming. The ending left my jaw hanging open. Im off to book three.
Thank you NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. Detectove Nikki just solved the mystery of who killed her sister which hit National News. A mother whose daughter was killed 20 years ago recently learned that the man believed to have killed her lied. She asks for Nikki’s help but then another teenager is murdered with a note written for the Detective. This book takes us on a goose chase never knowing who the killer might be. Even though this is book 2, Dana Perry does a great job of giving enough information that the reader isn’t lost. It works great as a single story. I really enjoyed this book and finished it in 2 days. I am looking forward to book 3.
Final twists and turns you won't see coming!
In the second installment of this series, FBI agent Nikki Cassidy is back in the limelight. Her high profile has drawn the attention of a mother looking for closer on a 20yr old case of her daughter's murder. Another small town, another small police department to work with, another new romance and then a staggering link to her childhood hometown, has Nikki and her team working connections between cases from 20 years ago and now.
3.5 stars on this one. There is a good mystery, twists and turns, some served up at the end as recaps. For me, there are attributes of the main character, Nikki that frustrate me, which in turn impact my overall rating when you don't love the main character. Some of the writing is also a little repetitive in places which slows the story in sections. While these factors dropped the overall rating down for me, it is still an easy read with nice twists and surprises.
Second book in the Agent Nikki Cassidy series
And what a great read this was
I read in two nights couldn’t put it down
You will love this book
Thanks NetGalley
This book (and series) shows a lot of promise. Unfortunately, there are a few things where it falls short on that promise.
It is a page-turner and I wanted to know what was going to happen, it's also a fairly quick read and I didn't feel that it dragged. However, there is a lot of repetition and without that it would become an unputdownable fly-through and breakneck speed book.
The storyline this time is very similar to the first book. There are reasons for that, but I think more difference could have been made. I also wasn't convinced by some of the things that Nikki did. Surely the FBI has plenty of cyber experts who would look at websites, rather than some agent just guessing the password on a whim. I'm also not at all convinced about the websites in the first place. After the first book, surely they'd assume that there were far more criminals out there connected to it, not be surprised that it doesn't seem to be over?
My other gripe was the 'relationship' that Nikki gets into, it seems to come from nowhere with very little chemistry. I just didn't buy it or see any need for it.
This is quite a harsh review. There was a lot I didn't like about this book, but there was a lot I still enjoyed, which is why, despite all of this, I'm still giving it 3 stars. I just wish that it could have been a little more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
Last One To Die is the second in the Nikki Cassidy series. There are a lot of similarities to the first novel, and at times it feels a little repetitive. Cassidy and her team again chase the killer of several young girls, this time across multiple locations. Many of the characters from the first novel reappear, and some new ones add a different element, including a new love interest for Cassidy.
The story arc feels a little slow in places, as the killer taunts Nikki, while the team are a long way from solving the case. The ending though is fast paced and dramatic, full of twists. Overall this is a good read, although somehow feels just a little less satisfying than the previous novel.
This was a fun mystery book that follows FBI Detective Nikki Cassidy through tracking down a serial killer and solving another murder. It quickly pulled me in and kept me guessing who the killer was. I thought I had it figured out a few times, but the twists are good and kept me on my toes! I also enjoy the romance between Nikki and Chief Nolan, and the partnership between her and her FBI partner Alex. If you like mystery, crime or who-did-it books I would recommend picking this one, and the first book in the series, up!
I enjoyed the story but it the story is very similar to the first book. The end was very surprising but a little predictable. I’m excited to read the next book.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this arc.
2.5/5⭐️The last one to die is book two in the Nikki Cassidy books. This story starts within weeks where the previous story left off. The first 50% of the book was written almost painfully slow and repetitive and basically just summarized and told us the same story of the first one. There were multiple inconsistencies and the story lacked the depth that the first one had. I kept wondering when things would get interesting and if things would continue to be the exact same way as the first. Even the twists were left feeling like I was just reading the same one again and the ending left me wondering if it’s worth reading the next one. I’m disappointed because I wanted to like this one but it just felt flat.
I liked this book took a while too get into but once i got into it i was gripped and actually surprised at the end i didnt see it coming but once it did everything clicked. It was really clever actually off too read the next one now
Book 2 FBI Agent Nikkii Cassidy.
I was looking forward to book 2, in the FBI Agent Nikki Cassidy. However i was rather disappointed. I found it rather repetitive and at one point i thought i was reading the first book..
More girls are going missing but they seem to be doing so of their own free will without any pressure from the killer, but who is it? Why is this happening? And are the murders all linked?
Wow! From beginning to end I enjoyed this book! Murder mystery chasing a killer with a strong female FBI lead? What’s not to love? looking forward to reading the next one which I plan to start immediately!
Nikki Cassidy is back again! I was so excited to read this book and it did not disappoint. It was unpredictable and addicting. I loved it!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!
Yet another great detective book by Dana Perry. FBI agent Nikki has never given up hope trying to find out why the man imprisoned killed her little sister. Each year she visits him in prison and for that full hour he never speaks until now, He claims there were others involved and gives her a clue where to look. When another girl goes missing the same age and on the anniversary her sister time she knows time is running out. This story was full of unexpected twists and can't wait to read the next instalment.
