If you enjoy a romcom, you will love this fake dating set up. Abbey is a likeable central character who finds she has to start again, professionally and personally. She takes a chance and moves in to her dream apartment block, hoping that if she lives as she'd like to, it may all come true. By a twist of fate, the man upstairs, Ted, is also keeping his identity under wraps, wanting to avoid a few people and unwanted publicity. Of course the chemistry between them is palpable.

There are plenty of humorous moments in this light-hearted look at love. Friends and family add lots of life to the story and my favourite part was when Ted met Abbey's family. With misunderstandings and quite a bit of pretence, this makes for a lively read. You also get to see part of the story through Ted's eyes so this dual narrative adds variety.

In short: an entertaining read

I'm so grateful to be taking part in this blog tour to promote this recent release!

This story follows Abbey and Ted who have reached their own lows after being cheated on by their partners. They each end up moving into an apartment building, one above the other, and irritating each other through a series of meet cutes and coincidental encounters. They make incorrect assumptions about each other and that fuels their future interactions, but they find common ground eventually and decide to fake-date to hurt their exes.

The interactions are very much enemies-to-lovers coded, however, I didn't feel any real malice between the two characters. They both seem to have very high stakes for their professional endeavours but those seem to just disappear with very little effort or a second mention. I really liked the supporting cast of Abbey's siblings and work friend, as well as Ted's brother, though some of the interactions seemed to be very surface-level or only there to move the plot along, rather than genuine conversation between siblings.

Overall, it was a really quick and entertaining read! I really enjoyed the dual-perspective of the novel, especially seeing the same situation from both perspectives. My assumptions at the start definitely were upended and the story went in a different direction than I expected. I thought that the set-up was amazing and the plot was really well thought out, I would have just loved to have a bit more development on the conflict between our two main characters, as well as their exes.

Can a fake date fix everything?

On a day Abbey thought would be the best of her life, it all falls her boyfriend tells her he’s met someone else. And then to make things worse, she loses her job. In an act of reimagination, she splurges her wedding savings on renting an apartment in a building she’s always dreamed of living in but when her family invites her ex – a close family friend – plus a date(!!) to her parents’ vow renewal, Abbey realizes her façade won’t be enough. There’s nothing for it but to fake one more thing – a romance. And she knows exactly who to ask... her hot new neighbor...

I can never say no to a fake dating trope and this book was no different. It also includes mistaken identity, forced proximity, boy next door and is a slow burn! Definitely a quick/ light read to get you out of slump. Absolutely delightful book and I will definitely be reading more from this author!

I recently read Fake It 'til You Make It by Laura Carter, and I have to say, it was a fun and entertaining read. The story follows Abbey, who is having the worst day of her life when she finds out her boyfriend has met someone else, and she loses her job. In a bold move, she spends her savings on a dream apartment and a new wardrobe to match.

However, when her ex and his new date are invited to her parents' vow renewal, Abbey realizes she needs to fake a romance to save face. She turns to her hot new neighbor, who agrees to help her out. As they spend more time together, Abbey begins to question whether her feelings for him are real or just part of the facade she's created.

The plot is light-hearted, with plenty of humor and romantic tension to keep the reader engaged. The characters are well-developed, and their chemistry is electric. The writing style is witty and engaging, and I found myself rooting for Abbey and her neighbor throughout the book.

Overall, Fake It 'til You Make It is a great read for anyone who loves a good romantic comedy. Laura Carter has created a charming and relatable story that will leave you smiling. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a little pick-me-up or a good laugh.

Abbey Mitchell anticipates a proposal from her boyfriend Andrew but instead discovers he's been cheating on her and wants to break up. Devastated, Abbey quits her job and decides to reinvent herself. She moves into an expensive apartment, dresses stylishly, and meets her neighbor Ted, who goes by the name Mike to escape his own troubles. As Abbey and Ted spend time together, they develop feelings for each other, but their relationship is complicated by their mutual deception. Despite their insecurities and past betrayals, Abbey and Ted's bond grows, leading to a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. The story, set in Alberta with vivid descriptions of its natural beauty, explores themes of family dynamics, betrayal, self-esteem, and pursuing one's dreams amidst challenges. Despite the initial fake premise, their connection feels genuine, making for an engaging romantic comedy with depth.

This was an adorable lighthearted read. I loved this!

The premise Abby and Andrew have been together forever and when he booked a special dinner she thought he was going to propose…. Instead she got a nasty surprise- a breakup and that he was seeing someone else who wait for is more different and exciting.

In response to this she decides to blow her wedding fund on an aspirational lifestyle in the hope to fake it til you make it. Everything she’s dreamed of and wanted. In the new apartment she meets Ted who has his own backstory and perceived persona.

Cue a lot of drama, adventure, slow burn romance and lots of funny moments! I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Thank you Boldwood Books and Netgalley!

This was a cute, quick read for me after finishing a long fantasy series and needing a break before diving into another series. I'm typically not into fake romances and honestly they probably could've just came clean, but whatever. I get it was needed to be done for the whole fake dating plotline. Would I read again? No, but still not bad.

Review:
This book one was an absolute delight!

A charming rom-com featuring Abbey and Ted, both navigating unexpected heartbreaks. Abbey, dumped by her cheating boyfriend, decides to shake things up by investing her wedding savings in a dream apartment in New York. In this upscale building, she encounters Ted, a tech mogul from San Francisco seeking refuge after a betrayal by his model girlfriend and best friend. Their initial encounter sparks mutual disdain, but circumstances push them into a fake relationship.

Fake dating always hooks me in so naturally I loved that aspect. There's something enticing about the romantic tension that builds when two people pretend to be in a relationship, especially when they initially can't stand each other. It's a fun trope! I’m really glad this book was dual POV because considering how the story unfolded, Ted's character might have been difficult to redeem without his POV. While the book is set in NYC, the change of scenery to Canada was a nice touch and a refreshing change and added depth to the story.

The story and characters are utterly captivating. If you're in need of a feel-good rom-com to lift your spirits, this is a must-read. Plus, it's refreshingly devoid of any spicy scenes, fitting perfectly with its sweet, heartfelt ambiance.

The Blurb :
On a day Abbey thought would be the best of her life – her boyfriend is surely going to propose tonight, right? – it all falls apart: he tells her he’s met someone else. And then to make things worse, she loses her job.
In an act of reimagination, she splurges her wedding savings on renting an apartment in a building she’s always dreamed of living in and kits out her wardrobe to match.
But when her family invites her ex – a close family friend – plus a date(!!) to her parents’ vow renewal, Abbey realizes her façade won’t be enough. There’s nothing for it but to fake one more thing – a romance. And she knows exactly who to ask... her hot new neighbor...

My Thoughts :
Firstly I have to touch upon this beautiful cover, how bright and pretty is it?!.
Here we meet Abbey Mitchell, who seems to have it all until she doesnt. She has just lost her job as an Auditor and her dream of a wedding when she finds out her boyfriend Andrew of 4 years has been cheating on her.
Abbey has had enough and uses her saved up wedding fund to go to New York and stay in an appartment that she has always dreamed of staying in.
We also meet Ted Thomas, who owns Vanguard Industries, and after finding out his fiancee Fleur has been cheating on him with his best friend and business partner Roman. Ted now wants to hide away from the world, and goes to stay at his Brother Mike’s New York appartment, yes the very same building as Abbey is staying in.
when they meet, they initially lie to each other about who they really are which causes a few problems along the way, but when Abbey has a brain wave and asks Ted if he will be her fake date to the upcoming renewal of her parents vows, they decide to play along, especially as her ex Andrew is going to be there.
Soon they start to enjoy each others company and really hit it off in more ways than one.
Can the couple make their relationship real or is it all for show!?.
I really enjoyed the chemisty between Abbey and Ted, Laura Carter developed the characters beautifully and at a slow pace, you couldnt help but become invested in them.
A feel good entertaing read and one that will leave you smilling throughout.
Look forward to more from Laura Carter soon.

Thank you to NetGalley and the Author for providing me with an ARC of this book!

This book started so good and I was honestly so pleasantly surprised by it. The tone and the story seemed really up my alley and I devoured the first half super quickly. I did however struggle a bit with the second half timings and pacing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline, the enemies to lovers hot neighbour situation was really fun, and even the mistaken identity at the beginning I could get behind. I am personally not a huge fan of the miscommunication trope / not coming out clean when you’ve got 1000 chances trope, and I do feel like I struggled with that bit (but that’s my personal preference on tropes). It feels like Ted hiding who he really is goes on for a bit too long for my liking!

Once they start fake dating (which we all know is the best bit) the story and their feelings seem to develop a bit too quickly and all of a sudden we’re 10x more in love than we were 5 pages before, which I do know is how romances tend to work but this one just felt a bit too rushed. I would’ve loved for this book to be a bit longer so that the romance at the end could be spread out a bit more rather than rushed to get an ending!

Overall I did really enjoy this though, and it is out now so go read it and let me know your thoughts! 💕

Returning from six weeks working away
Abbey can't wait for what her boyfriend will say.
She wasn't expecting him to break up, no way -
Or to lose her job the next day!

With her sister and best friend she makes a fresh start
New dream apartment and wardrobe, with her savings she'll part!
However, when her ex is invited to her parents' vow renewal,
Going solo would be just too cruel!

So Abbey seeks out a possible fake romance
And hopes her new neighbour will give her the chance.
But he's been through betrayal as well
So they're only pretending, or so they both tell.

A fun fake romance that could be so real
As sparks fly and attraction to each other they feel.
With lies told to each other to add to the mix
What will it take this situation to fix?

Get ready for laugh-out-loud moments and fun, too,
As this is an enjoyable read, all the way through.
Definitely one to put a smile on your face - or a huge grin
As you read and keep hoping that romance will win!

For my copy of this book, I say thank you
As I share with you this, my honest review.

I understand the whole premise of this book was faking it till you make it but oh my god there is so much unnecessary lying. There were also so many chances to come clean at a point when it wouldn’t have been a big deal and they could’ve both laughed at it. The friendship developing was cute and I liked them as a couple but is it so difficult to have a conversation. The lead up to the fake dating is dragged out and a mega slow burn. Then suddenly everything blows up and is fixed in 2 chapters. It’s wrapped up so quickly that it felt rushed. If that’s how they wanted to finish it, it would've been nice to have an epilogue from some time in the future. Especially to show how the family worked things out.

Abbey’s parents are having a wedding renewal, and she’s been invited with a plus one. But when her long-term boyfriend, who she thought was going to propose, ends up dumping her, she needs a backup, who better, than her new neighbour.
But fake dating may turn into something more and any reader will be cheering for them from the start.
Carter gives us a fast-paced novel, with slow-burn romance, and an entertaining read, with fake dating and mistaken identity, told through first person point of view.
I found this novel entertaining and funny, with great main characters that had depth; which made this narrative all the more engaging.
This is definitely a feel-good novel and another by this author I would read again.

I really liked this book but I had a couple of problems with it. I find it super frustrating watching characters pass up these opportunities to come clean to each other and I almost DNF it because of it. The second half of the book happened to fast and loads of unanswered questions at the end like Ted’s company and business partner, Abbey’s job and her living arrangement. I would really enjoy an epilogue added on that tied up some of those loose ends.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fake It 'til You Make It by Laura Carter is a clean romantic comedy which I enjoyed.

The main characters are well done, both are realistic, reletable and I rooted for them both,
There are several comedic situations which were pretty funny and there is a case of mistaken identity.
This is a very clean romance which is not my favorite as I do like a bit of spice however it was so entertaining that I didn't even notice until almost the end of the book.
One this that I didn't particularly care about was a lot of inner narrative and a lot of repetitious thoughts in my opinion.
Nevertheless it was fast paced, entertaining and a fun read.
I am giving it 3.5 stars.
