Twins Tabitha and Talia are all grown up, married, own a bakery together and live next door to each other.
Their lives couldn't be more picture perfect until a new neighbour, Anne, moves in behind Talia and everyone seems to be on edge. The twins start wondering who she is, why she's here, why she's spying on them, is their lives as perfect as they seem?
Told in POVs of the characters, I struggled a bit with their names being so similar to remember who's side I was currently listening to. A slow start but worth finishing, even if I did guess most of the twists by the end!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
The Secrets Next Door is a thriller with lots of twists and turns! I will say that at times, the situations happening did not seem plausible, but overall it was a good audiobook that kept me engaged! Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Select for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review :)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so twisted! I did not see that ending coming and was in awe of how everything was wrapped up in the end. Tabitha was such a toxic character and she was so unhinged which really added to the twist in the end. I am in awe of how much I enjoyed this book.
Thank you Netgalley, Storm Publishing & Sally Royer-Derr for the ARC of this book. I had both the ebook and audiobook so I switched between both mediums
This book was really unpredictable and I loved the twist at the end. The author did an excellent job at creating the feel of unease about the situation and the inability to trust in characters. The story was a quick read and it was relatively fast paced. I loved the authors ability to make me dislike certain characters and I loved how the story came together and tied up nicely in the end.
The audiobook narrators were excellent - great pacing, clear and fit the roles well!
A great quick read for thriller lovers who want unpredictable twists and an addictive read!
3.5/5
Talia and Tabitha are twin sisters who live next door to each other and run a bakery together. Talia has always been the good twin and Tabitha the not so good. They have an unusual relationship for twins, not exactly competitive but not super sisterly either. A new neighbor Anne, a mystery writer moves in to their neighborhood and Tabitha is instantly suspicious of her and even convinces Talia to break in to her house to 'check it out'. Even though they find nothing out of the ordinary Tabitha and Talia's husband Zach take an instant dislike to Anne. As Talia becomes more and more friendly with Anne, Tabitha and Zach bad mouth Anne and try to interfere with this new friendship, and as the story progresses we learn exactly why. This was a fun quick read that I enjoyed. It definitely held some surprises and the audio version I listened to was well done. Three and a half stars.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Select, Storm Publishing for an ARC version of this audio book.
I listened to the audio of this book. It was a little hard to follow at first with the twin sisters. After a bit, it became a book that I needed to listen to until the finish. It quickly became a mystery and kept you on the edge of your seat. I never expected the plot twist! The manipulation you can experience without even knowing is unreal!
Talia and Tabitha are the resident celebrities of their neighborhood in the small town of Little Beak. Talia and Tabitha are also identical twin sisters but despite their identical appearances, they are very different. When Anne moves into a house directly behind Talia, things start to go array, and everyone seems on edge. Suspicion arises between the twins as they spy on their new neighbor. Who is Anne? Why does she seem to be spying on the twins? Why does Tabitha seem to dislike Anne without even getting to know her? Why is Anne renting the house when the house was up for sale?
This was my first Sally Royer-Derr book and I listened to the story via audiobook. The story is read from different character point of views and flows smoothly from one POV to another. The story is intriguing from the first chapter and I like that this story wasn’t predictable, it kept me guessing right up to the plot twist. The narrator was easy to understand and the transition between characters was recognizable. I did, however, really dislike that voice for the male characters, especially Tabitha’s husband, Grant, and their son, Cole. The voice used for Grant was so arrogant and reminded me of someone that was so rich, which they were, that they looked down on everyone. I just couldn’t connect or like his character just based on the voice used. Cole’s voice was nasally and reminded me of a whiney kid that I would want nothing to do with, thankfully, his character was only used a handful of times. Overall, I recommend this book and the audiobook version. The story was twisty and unpredictable and it all came together nicely in the end.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select Publishing for allowing me the opportunity to listen to this ARC audiobook and provide my honest feedback.
Woah! I absolutely did NOT expect that amazing twist! What a gripping psychological thriller. It started slow, a great way to build up the character development. I was invested in the lives of all characters. I enjoyed the alternating chapters from the two different characters. The narrator was fantastic! I loved their laugh, it was a contagious laugh. The expression in their voice really got me hooked and excited. I highly recommend the audiobook. I am looking forward to reading more books by Sally Royer-Derr!
Twins Talia and Tabitha live next door to each other with their husbands in the town of Little Beak, New York. They own a bakery together and their lives couldn't be better. But one day they get a new neighbor, mystery author Anne Gravely, and questions start to surface about what's she doing in their small town and who she really is.
This was a fun domestic thriller! A bit of a slow start, but it did pick up quite nicely and the ending was very satisfying.
This book is full of juicy tea and that's my favorite kind of suburban domestic thriller, so I was entertained the whole time. The secrets and lies run hot and heavy in this one.
My minor complaints were did see some major twists coming from a mile away, but honestly, that didn't make it any less enjoyable. There were also some parts that seemed completely implausible to me. But again, I didn't like it any less because of it!
listened to this on audio and thought the narrator did a fantastic job!
4 stars from me!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sally Royer-Derr for this ARC in exchange for a review! This book was published today so you can read it now!!
OMG this was a trip! I knew her sister was a narcissistic bitch but I never guessed she'd go so far as to rule/ruin her twin's life! And of course, both husbands are bags of dicks! I love that each terrible person got his/hers in the end, that's my favorite!
This was my 1st book by Sally Royer-Derr but it will def not be my last!

The Secrets Next Door is noted as a suburban thriller, yet the only thing true in that statement is that it takes place in a suburban town. The story started out interesting but I soon found myself wandering off while listening. It just did not keep my attention.
I had a hard time keeping track of the twins, and whose POV I was actually hearing. There names were too similar as well and I got confused.
This book might have had a chance with a different narrator. There were times that I would cringe, especially the “Disney animation laugh” that did not fit in with the storyline. Also, the lack of emotion and the dusky sultry voice just didn’t do it for me.
I typically enjoy almost any audio book but this one fell flat for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for this advanced audio in return for my honest review.

"The Secrets Next Door" left me feeling underwhelmed. While the premise held promise, the execution fell short. The characters lacked depth, and the plot felt disjointed, with numerous loose ends left unresolved. Additionally, the pacing was sluggish, making it difficult to stay engaged throughout. Overall, it's a forgettable read that failed to deliver on its potential.
Twin sisters Talia and Tabitha have been extremely close their whole lives. Sonder close their neighbors and run a business together.
When a popular author moves in next door the relationships between everyone turn upside down. Who is this woman really?
I enjoyed the plot of this book a lot. I feel each twins husbands could have had a bit more depth but overall i enjoyed this!
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
Thanks to NetGalley for my audio-arc.
Y’all…this book is so freaking boring, I’m sorry. I know thrillers can take a while to get going but I literally have no interest in knowing how this ends. I honestly could hardly remember whose POV I was in half of the time and the author took too much time describing dumb things like the design on a characters shirt. Sorry to be harsh, but I was not a fan…

WOW! This was amazing!
Not at all what I was expecting!
Yes, we have two twin sisters living in suburbia as neighbors.
Yes, one is very wealthy with a very handsome husband, house, and beautiful son.
Yes, the other is not wealthy, married, no children...but trying for a family.
Yes, an author moves in to the house right next to the sisters...
BUT...that's it from the synopsis!
The stuff that happens next is what will make your hair CURL!
Talia and Tabitha own/work at a bake shop in small town USA, in NY.
Sweet, small town vibes. Sweet shop, neighbors, neighborhood, family... BUT, what you don't know is that there is some evil lurking here! And when it shows, well, my mouth was just hanging open!!
When an author moves in next door, the sisters are very excited to meet her and make friends with her! She seems sweet, but quiet, and keeps to herself... But, is all as it seems?
When their Mom visits she is very excited to meet the author as well!
As pieces of the puzzles of the two sisters' lives start to fall into place, a picture is created, but it may not be all that it appears to be! And when trouble begins in the neighborhood, well, all bets are off! And pieces of the puzzle start to fall to the floor...
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!

Well...let's just say some can justify just about anything in The Secrets Next Door by the entertaining mystery suspense author Sally Royer Derr.
Twins Talia and Tabitha are living the envious suburban life next door to each other. Married to successful men, they own a profitable bakery and all is just perfect. Or so it seems until mystery writer Anne moves next door to Talia.
Talia is anxious to have a new friend besides her twin and there's something familiar and comfortable about Anne. But Tabitha doesn't like to share what's hers and Talia is hers. Soon Talia is doubting everything and everyone as Anne and Tabitha battle to reveal each other's secrets.
I have to give props to the narrator Patricia Rodríguez for finding that fine line between comedy and drama with this murderous mystery. This author had me laughing at the antics of these sisters in one chapter and gasping from surprise in the next as I read and listened to this mash up of TV's Desperate Housewives and Sally Hepworth's The Good Sister.
Be prepared for a few improbable but fun twists, too much sharing between sisters, some shocking reveals (but not about husbands Zach and Grant...saw that right away) and the consequences of your neighbor's secrets leading to your own exposure when you discover The Secrets Next Door.
I received a free copy of this book/audiobook from the publishers via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of the audiobook The Secrets Next Door by Sally Royer-Derr and read by Patricia Rodriguez. One of my favorite genres is suburban thriller, so I was excited by the premise.
This book mainly follows two POVs: twin sisters who live next door to each other. The story follows each of them as they try to unravel the mystery of the new author who moved in next door. Why is she there and does she have ulterior motives?
I’m going to be honest, I actually listened to this one twice because I had some very specific complaints and I wanted to make sure I hadn’t missed something that would have invalidated my problems. Alas, that was not the case. The bones of the story are great. I would love to read more from this author to see if her voice is different in other works and may be more in line with what I like.
As it is, I felt the writing was more “tell” and less “show.” And within that, there was more than one element hidden until the last 15% of the book that felt disingenuous to leave out. It would have been easy to leave some breadcrumbs earlier in the book so the reveal at the end wouldn’t feel quite so much like a cheat.
I did appreciate that the sisters had very different personalities. Between the way they were written and the way they were acted, it was always easy to remember which POV was in the chapter I was listening to.
Speaking of the narrator, I found Patricia Rodriguez pleasant to listen to. Her inflections were well thought-out and she had just enough of a change to her voice for each unique speaker without having fully different voices which can sometimes be distracting.
Ultimately, this wasn’t a bad experience, but I can’t in good conscience give this read any higher than 3 stars. The main storyline and idea was worth the time to read it for sure.
This book started off slow but was enjoyable. I felt like it dragged on at times or skipped from week to week too quick. I also felt like I didn’t fully understand the whys of some of the characters’ action. However, it kept my attention. I especially enjoyed the narrator - her voice was great to listen to. I was a captive audience
I really enjoyed this cat and mouse thriller. The twin sister dynamic is also very entertaining to me. This one will have you reconfiguring the mystery the whole way through.
I thought this story was great. Best-friends and twins hit turbulence amidst when a creepy neighbor moves in, marriages are tested, lives are lost. The twist is a shocker. However, this book was nearly ruined for me by melodramatic narration that for me hit off-key emotional notes and at times was strident to the point it was hard not to pull out my ear buds.
