The secrets next door was a light suspense but entertaining book. If you're looking for a quick mystery book to pass a fun time, this is an option. I enjoyed listening to this audiobook in a slow weekend.
The premise is interesting, the execution felt confusing at times, and predictable at others. I generally don't like the different POV books, but fortunately most of times it was Talia's so it was consistent. There were many sub-plots and details that were irrelevant to the story, that tried to give depth to characters, and at the end don't tie anywhere.
The narration was a little over the top, specially for Tabatha, but in general it was fine.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
I tried and tried again, but couldn’t get past the over-acted narration and lack of depth. I couldn’t finish this book. It may be an okay read for some. Maybe try it in print.
This is a hard review to write. I did enjoy the audio. Twins Talia and Tabitha were the main characters but I was so confused at the end. It’s a thriller that kept me guessing till the end. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this audiobook. I did like the narrators for this one.
Thank you Netgalley, Sally Royer-Derr and Dreamscape Select for this advanced edition of the Audiobook!
A really great domestic thriller about twins living next to each other. Both are married and run a bakery together. When a writer moves in next door things begin to happen in their neighborhood. Their husband's start to act differently and they have a feeling someone's been watching them.
I had an idea in my mind what the twist would be but I was wrong. Love when that happens.
This book is told from the perspective of twin sisters. The narrator was good but at times I lost track of which sister was which and who was speaking. The book started at a good pace but as we got further into the book it really slowed down and the description of something seemed to go on forever making the book drag. There were some great mystery points and one sister kept having weird dreams and ending up in strange places which was funny once you realized it. Some of the “surprises” I saw long before they happened but the outcome toward the end was surprising. The strange part was at the end there was one main character introduced and you’d think we’d get lots of detail about her, but that was not the case.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this arc.
I wasn’t a fan of the ending of this book but otherwise it was a pretty good read. I guess I wanted twins to end on good terms.
Told in two perspectives of twin sisters. This book isn't at all what you think. Didn't see that one coming. Was a great mystery thriller!!
This was a 3.5 star read for me. This dual POV follows adult twin sisters living in a suburban community as they welcome a new and mysterious neighbor. The prologue completely hooked me, but it came to a slow halt until the last 30-40% of the book. I think a big reason for that is a lot of the details and descriptions were super lengthy and often pulled me out of the story. A person involved in the last twist was barely introduced at all, so I had no connection to that character when it was revealed that they were part of the twist. I figured out some of the twists early on, but others were shock. Overall, this was a good read. Thank you to Netgalley, Dreamscape select, and Sally Royer-Derr for the ALC.
This was a little slow for me. Secrets and lies! I figured out the twist early on in the book but it was still a fun read.
While I enjoyed the narrator, this story was not for me. I am only leaving feedback per Netgalley requirement. Thank you to the publisher for the ARC.
Narration was so hard to listen to I had to stop listening half way through. The story was not good enough to continue.
I always love a fast pace thriller with a good twist at the end!
This book follows Tabitha and Talia who are twins and they live next to each other. They co-own the cutest bakery in the small town of Little Beak, New York. One day, they get a new neighbor.. and not just any neighbor, it’s Anne Gravely, hugely successful and well-loved mystery author. Word around town is she over paid to live in that specific house for a year but why? A lot of questions start popping up.
Overall, I thought this was a good thriller and kept me entertained the entire time!
I enjoyed the narration of this book! The laughs were the only thing that drove me a tiny bit nuts but it was easy and fun to listen to! I don’t think I would have enjoyed this book as much if I didn’t listen to the audio version.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for giving me this an audiobook version of The Secrets Next Door by Sally Royer-Derr!
I was so happy I to had the opportunity to listen to the ARC audiobook for this upcoming release! This book was so intriguing and absolutely sucked me in!
I loved seeing the bond between the two sisters Talia and Tabitha, but every relationship has its secrets and the new neighbor just might be the downfall of it all!
Sally Royer-Derr did a phenomenal job developing characters and keeping you on the edge of your seat, just to get you with the most amazing twist! I highly recommend this read! Luckily the release date for this book is March 4th, so you won’t have to wait too long to read this fantastic thriller!
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook! When twin sisters have a new neighbor who happens to be an author move in next door they start to get suspicious. But are they imagining things?
This book had some great twists. It was fun to listen to. It had my guessing
The narrator to the audiobook sounds just like the 80’s sitcom actor Dinah Manoff (from Empty Nest). Even thought it wasn’t her I kept picturing her while listening.
This story was very fast paced and compulsive. I really liked the twin aspect. I was a bit disappointed by the twist and felt some were easily known. I would definitely read more by this author and would encourage others to read this if they enjoy thrillers.
Twin sisters, Tabitha and Thalia, live next door to each other with their husbands they run a bakery together and outwardly their lives seem close to perfect. Tabitha has a son and Thalia is looking into IVF to start her family. As the story continues, we see the cracks in the façade.
A mysterious author, Ann, moves in next door. She seems to be watching Thalia and the twins become suspicious. A bit of paranoia sinks in and they create stories of who Ann is and what she is really doing living there. Even so, Thalia is drawn to befriend her. There is a secret about her that Tabitha has figured out but doesn’t share. It leads to dark secrets in Tabitha’s past.
At times there were too many small details given that did not move the story forward. There were also reveals and twists at the end that could have had clues earlier on that would have contributed to the suspense. Instead, I found myself questioning if there was any mention earlier in the book that I missed as it came out of nowhere.
The narrator was consistent although a bit over the top and I wonder if I would have enjoyed the book more by reading it on the page.
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Audio for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I really thought this was going another way. I didn’t get it all figured out until the last few chapters and that’s only because the book filled me in. I didn’t see it coming. I loved this story. I listened to the audiobook of this and the narrator was spot on. Thank you NetGalley for the arc and another 5 star read.
The Secrets Next Door
How well do you know your neighbors?

I was surprised this book did not get better reviews. I think it is a 5 Star book!
Author Sally Royer-Derr offers readers a book filled with twists and turns. While I suspected the outcome I was never sure exactly where the maze of clues would lead. There are three main characters in this book, twins Talia and Tabitha and a new neighbor Ann. Talia was married to her childhood friend, Zach and Tabitha’s was married to a wealthy man, Grant. I didn’t really feel like I got to know Grant. But Zach’s personality came through loud and clear. He was obviously an unstable person and one that one gets violent. Tabitha wanted to control everyone, and everything. She wanted to be the center of attention. Tabitha was glamorous where Talia is quieter and more thoughtful. Talia and Tabitha were identical twins that lived next door to each other. Talia had a dream of owning a bakery, so the twins co-owned a cupcake bakery. Like most twins this set have different personalities and one rules the other. I really disliked Talia.
Anne Gravely, a successful author, moves next door to the twins. Talia and Anne become friends and yet Talia suspects Anne has a secret. Tabitha doesn’t like Anne and is sure she is up to no good.
Patricia Rodriguez was the narrator of the audio book. She did a very nice job. The story is told from two points of view. I love the way author Sally Royer-Derr wraps up this tale and ties up all the loose ends.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book for review purposes.

On a leafy, suburban street, curtains are subtly twitched to watch the new neighbor moving in.
Anne gets exactly the welcome to the neighborhood she expects: a basket of homemade cupcakes delivered by the woman next door and her best friend. One wears a curious smile while the other studies her every move. When Talia and Tabitha leave, Anne throws the treats in the trash.
She knows what to expect from the new neighbors. Talia with her perfect husband and pale-peach sweater sets, and Tabitha who reigns as queen in the close-knit community. That’s why she chose this house.
But they don’t know what to expect from her.
And if they get suspicious, well they can’t uncover Anne’s secrets without spilling their own…

This was a quick and addictive read. I enjoyed the story line, but I did struggle a bit with keeping track of each twin. The names were so similar, and they switched off each chapter, that I would get used to one twin then find myself questioning which one I was reading about.
Great read and I really enjoyed the twist!
