I am always impressed by this author. This book, like her others, was exciting and had me at nightmare. I enjoyed the creepiness of this book and the indoor waterpark!! If i ever wanted to go, after reading this its a no. Me i would have kept driving, straight back home lol.

This was fun and cute! It wasn't as scary as I was hoping and didn't always keep me fully intrigued but I did want to find out what was going to happen next. I will definitely pick up more from this author!

Have you ever taken a family vacation where literally everything goes wrong? Take that and add ghosts into the mix and you got Nightmare of a Trip. This book worked for what it was. It was funny at times and kept me passingly entertained. It was not as good as Suburban Hell, but I’m still glad I read it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC. This review contains my honest, unbiased opinion.

So much fun! Family trips are always nightmare right? Well this one ends up as a literal nightmare. I laughed a lot.
Highly recommended

I really enjoyed Surburban Hell so when I seen Nightmare of a Trip I knew I had to read it. Although I didn't find it scary at all, I did enjoy it. Thank you NetGalley and Putman for this advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

Not a book I'll talk about anytime soon. It just wasn't my favorite type of story. The cover is great though! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

I was really looking forward to Nightmare Of A Trip because I've enjoyed the author's previous books. However, this one didn't quite meet my expectations. It was described as a horror novel with National Lampoon vibes, which sounded like a book I'd really enjoy. The only issue was that it focused more on family drama and car problems than on horror. It wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but it was okay.

As a Wisconsinite and mom of a teenager, this was a fun premise for me. I also enjoyed the National Lampoons vibe with a twist of light-hearted spooky.
It was a quick read for me but I think the right length - otherwise it may have gotten a bit tired. Just enough road trip cliches without being too much. Be prepared for some far-fetched zaniness

I’m probably going to be in the minority here. But I just didn’t like this book as much as I thought I would. It wasn’t very creepy/scary at all. The pacing felt a bit slow in between the “creepy” scenes. The characters all fell flat to me and I kept getting the two sisters mixed up even though they are supposed to have an age difference. I wasn’t a fan of the ending either. Other people may enjoy this far more, it just wasn’t for me. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the arc in return for an honest review.

Thanks to Netgalley for my ARC
I was disappointed with this story. The creepy moments were not very creepy. I found the plot to be underwhelming and a bit dull. I didn't care for any of the characters.

This wasn't my favorite. I had a really hard time connecting with the story and the main character. The writing was great and I enjoyed the characters a lot; the storyline just wasn't relatable to me.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If Maureen Kilmer writes it, I'm reading it! I fell in love with her books ever since I read Suburban Hell. Each of her books cover relevant topics and sometimes heavy topics. They are always done with humor, which I really like.
The trip element of this book was so fun and it was definitely an adventure the reader takes along side the characters in the book.
The female friendships in her books are also always very powerful and I sincerely appreciate that as a girls girl. The female friendships in this book do not disappoint and I love reading about strong female friendships.
I will be buying a physical copy of this for my shelf when it comes out!

Rating: 4/5 stars
Leigh Somerset's family vacation turns into a spine-chilling adventure in "Nightmare of a Trip" by Maureen Kilmer. The story follows the Somersets as they embark on a road trip from suburban Milwaukee to Orlando, Florida, seeking quality family time and adventure. However, their journey takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon an abandoned farmhouse in Indiana, unleashing a series of eerie events that haunt them throughout their trip.
Kilmer expertly crafts a blend of family bonding and supernatural elements, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with each twist and turn. The characters are relatable, especially Leigh Somerset, who strives to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst the escalating paranormal occurrences. The author's vivid descriptions transport readers to each location, from creepy indoor waterparks to haunted Cracker Barrels, heightening the sense of unease and suspense.
The pacing is brisk, ensuring that the narrative never loses momentum. Kilmer skillfully balances moments of tension with lighthearted family interactions, creating a dynamic and engaging story. As the Somersets navigate through the unknown, readers are kept guessing until the very end, wondering if they will escape the clutches of the supernatural or succumb to the "highway to hell."
"Nightmare of a Trip" is a captivating blend of horror and family drama, perfect for fans of eerie road trip tales. Kilmer's adept storytelling and memorable characters make this novel a thrilling read from start to finish.
Big thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

National Lampoon's Horror Movie! This novel had you giggling right into being horrified! The best mix of horror and comedy I've read all year.

This was such a charming way of talking about all that parents- particularly mothers- take on and protect their children from on a daily basis. It hits deep, as a mom. Even the ghost mom, she wanted her story told and her sacrifices seen..... that said, I flew through this book. It's a gem of a novel dipped in the paranormal and sprinkled with incredibly realistic mama-children interactions. This is one for all mothers, no matter what that looks like for you, individually. Definitely will be recommending this one to anyone who will listen!

Thank you to NetGalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to receive this arc as I loved Suburban Hell. While Suburban Hell is still my favorite, I really enjoyed this one as well.
I liked that the story took place on their road trip to Florida. I thought it was a fun and the family's dynamic was very relatable. This story definitely revolved more on their bond and Leigh realizing she can do anything as long as she has her family versus it being more horror comedy, so definitely don't expect horror. It was more of a cozy read of a family road trip with supernatural bumps in the road.
I still recommend picking this up and this would be a fun read during the summer and fall time.

If you’re expecting a horror story, Nightmare of a Trip isn’t for you. If you want a cozy, cute supernatural story, this book is for you. It follows a family as they embark on a family road trip from Minnesota to Florida and the other worldly events that happen along the way.
Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this early!

This is my third Maureen book, as I have been with her since Suburban Hell, and I am incredibly grateful to once again be reading another one of her books.
The story itself was very humorous, and the chemistry between the main couple was one of my favorites. The kids weren't my favorite, but that may be a personal preference over me not liking children in stories. I fell in love with the main character, and was rooting for her the entire time, just as her other stories. It was fun to experience the road trip and the things they went through. However, this story did push on a bit for me. Which is a shame, because I have never felt this way about a Maureen story before.
It lacks scariness. The confrontations with the spirits are lacking. The story, however, is cozy and calming to read. It's light for a beginner horror reader.
I want to personally thank NetGalley, as well as the author, publisher, and anyone else involved in providing copies, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Reviews will also be submitted to Goodreads when possible.

When the unexplained is left unexplained are my thoughts on this one. I had high hopes for this unique story of a haunted family road trip. The scary parts weren't exactly scary and just happened and ignored immediately after. There were some comedic aspects that ended up being the best written parts. The ending had so much build-up and then just happened without exactly explaining the reasons. The characters were fun, if a bit one-dimensional. Overall, this was an okay read, and I give it three stars.
Thank you, Netgalley and Penguin Group Putnam, for this ARC.

After reading and loving 𝑺𝒖𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒃𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒍, I was eager to read everything else this author wrote. I didn't like her next book as much, and this one I believe suffers from a case of an ineffective and misleading blurb.
When I read "a horror tinged 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑳𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒐𝒏'𝒔 𝑽𝒂𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, I was ON it and so excited to read. Until I realized there was no horror. And then I realized there were no comedic moments.
I wanted to love this book so much, but I didn't. I'm holding out hope that her next one will be the winner! Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for the early read. This title will publish September 10, 2024.
