This is the story of Vern and his goal to reach the sky on the swing. It is a story of friendship, not giving up and paying it forward. Try as he may Vern can not pump on the swing. Then Gretchen comes and teaches him how telling him it’s hard T first but once you get it it is easy. He does not give up even though he has to talk himself into trying more. The illustrations are cute and colorful. Great for school or home library.

This is a fun story that calls to mind the Odyssean thrill of an epic swing ride. It will hold special appeal for young kids whose playground experience haven't quite reached its pinnacle.

“Touch the Sky” is a wonderful story of one child’s determination to not give up. Follow Vern as he tries to learn how to swing, his failures, his teacher and his success. It’s a cute little tale of something some children really struggle with learning sometimes and it’s fantastically written so children can understand.

The illustrations are super cute and really make the story come alive.

This would be a great learning tool for parents and teachers for children who need help learning to swing but also for any child that is struggling with overcoming any challenges.

This is a cute, colorful, and funny picture book that children will love. Although I didn't quite understand why the boy struggled so much with learning to swing, it was thoroughly entertaining and inspiring to read about his journey. I loved how he found a friend to help him. She was patient, encouraging him to keep trying until he succeeded. The story conveys wonderful messages about perseverance, helping others, and never giving up. The illustrations are beautiful and stunning, with vivid colors and artwork that resembles crayons or chalk. It was very engaging and fun to read. Highly recommend!

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.

I loved the pictures in this book! They bring to live the movement of swings and swinging in all the possible ways. Vern wants to learn the "right" way to swing but he can't figure it out. Gretchen a stranger shows Vern how. With her support and lots of practice he finally gets the right movement in pumping and away he goes to touch the sky. A wonderful picture book about listening, learning, making friends and perseverance.

The cover of this book is what drew me to it, and the inside images matched. It is overall colorful and engaging for the reader. I loved following the main character, Vern, as he learns to pump his legs to swing on his own. It also has a nice, positive ending and overall message about resilience and learning new skills. It is a great story overall.

The illustrations are so BIG and have such color and movement! I can see many story tellers having a ball with this one. The message is easy and applicable to all- don't give up, sometimes things are tough to learn, but you got it! And I really loved seeing the main character be able to pass along the lesson as well, the book wasn't just a full stop at their learning.

All children can benefit from encouragement to keep trying for their goals and it was modeled in such a good way. I will be recommending this book to my family and friends who have small children.

This book is wonderful visually. I felt like the words were a bit forced, and often took away from the illustrations which are themselves very engaging. I love the idea of this story, but feel like it has some rough edges left to sand out. The book follows a child who wants to swing but doesn't know how; their friend Gretchen empathizes by talking about how hard it can be to learn something new, and shares the secret to swinging! But even knowing all the steps, learning new things can take time and practice. Once you've figured it out though, there is the great joy of being able to help someone else learn too. All of that is absolutely amazing, the essence of the story and the illustrations are why I give it 4 stars. The specific wording is why it is not five.
