My son and I enjoyed reading this one together. I think everyone can remember learning to swing or trying to teach someone to swing. This book captures the struggle of learning to swing to well. "It's hard until it isn't!"

I really loved the illustrations in this book. They are so colorful and captures the motion of swinging in a picture. I also like that Vern has long hair. Thank you for showing that a boy can have long hair too.

Is there anything better than being in a swing, going higher and higher, pumping faster and faster, your feet towards the sky?

This is a book about that, yes, but also a book about how you have to *try* because no one learns things instantly. And thus, half of this picture book is about the frustration of having to learn something that everyone else seems to know. Vern tries and tries, and fails and fails. But what is the saying? Fall down seven times, and get up eight?

Vern keeps trying, until he is swinging the way he has seen others do it.
And the best part, he then sees a child who is having the same problem he was having, and so he passes on the knowledge.

Delightful story, and the pictures are fun as well, as they show the motion of swinging as he gets it right.

As a kindergarten teacher, this is a perfect classroom tool in the form of a beautifully crafted story. Kids will always see other kids who can do what they cannot, and the most beautiful part in this one is that a kid teaches another kid. Such a seemingly simple plot line in a beautiful manner. The illustrations were perfect for the story.

A very unique and creative story. One with very cool pictures. A great message and way for children to learn something they truly love to do. Good for multiple ages. Fun cover and picture style as well.

I'm giving this book all the stars because I love the use of these bright, vibrant colors to tell a story and express emotion. I'm an adult who still loves to swing but I don't remember what it was like when swinging was new -- this story turned it into a fantastic adventure, where one kid teaches another how to pump your legs and get really high, so that kid can teach someone else. We can all help each other!

An adorable story about not giving up when things get hard and seem impossible. Also a great reminder to not give up when you can’t do something the first try. The illustrations were bright and colorful
