Thank you to Netgalley and Lerner Publishing Group for the opportunity to read and review this graphic novel. Honestly, I wasn't sure what I was going to think of this graphic novel and because of that, I was procrastinating on it so much. However, I think it was a great adolescent story with lost in space and Futurama vibes. Although, I wished there was more to the end. Because of these points, I have to give this a 3 out of 5 stars
A fun romp that doesn't take itself too seriously. It combines all the best parts of giant robot teams and societal breakdown narratives like Lord Of The Flies. It jumps right into both the action and the humor and moves quickly.
It was a fun and quick read, with awesome drawings that impacted my imagination. I loved it! The story was easy to follow and I enjoyed it very much.
This was a fun and quick read that combines the humor/stress of working in hospitality with aliens, robots, and entitled men. The art style was bright and fun and the story moved at a quick pace.
With twisted humor, sci-fi action, and a hospitality sector to rival them all, Hotelitor is a fun series for anyone who has ever worked in a customer service role. I personally loved the humor in the book but it’s definitely not for just anyone as it veers dark at times. In this, a crew, without their bridge team, is attacked by an alien and teleported away from their home station to a random spot in open space. They must figure out how to get home without their bridge crew, while fighting more monsters.
I hadn't heard much about this book before I requested it. I was really surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this. The robot hotel was such an interesting concept, and the art was pleasant and well-done. Overall, I really liked this and I definitely think this will be popular but on the indie side.
I'm not sure mixing up mecha battles and labor satire really works, particularly with such an unimpressive art style. Everything's flat. I'm probably just not the audience for this one, as I lost interest quickly and didn't care about the situation or any of the characters. I found it all dull.
A robot hotel that is also a Gundam fighting the evil that threatens the planet and must fight without disturbing the very wealthy and obnoxious guests in the sauna level or other. Such a fun concept and well-drawn novel. I would say the theme will please older readers but it's fun to see the hotel in action. Large cast and fun characters.
I saw other reviews of this book that gave it mediocre ratings but I found that I liked this book more than I realized. It was silly yes, but then it's meant for middle grade I'm assuming. The concept I've definitely not seen before and evoked memories of the megazords from Power Rangers but...with...a hotel inside. Lots of silly fun and witty quips.
I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t that big of a fan of this one because it didn’t make any sense. I feel like it was an interesting concept for the plot, but it wasn’t flushed out properly which is why I think it fell short in a lot of areas. I will say it was a quick read and if people like wacky stories then they could find themselves enjoying this one but it just wasn’t for me.
This one is falling squarely into the category of better than you expected. Fun, charming, easy read, and a truly fantastic premise that delights the whole way through.
It was alright, I suppose. I didn’t really find it funny like the blurb said it would be. I was told it would be hilarious but I didn’t find anything hilarious about it. It was honestly kind of boring. I had to force myself to finish it.
If you've ever worked a customer service job, this book is for you. From the disappointing manager to the frustrating guests, this book took me back to the years I was over-worked and underpaid in customer service but in a fun way. This space romp puts a whole new spin on the concept and set up a lovely adventure. I hope to see future installments!
Cartoonish, humorous, and adventurous fun in comics form. I would gladly share this book with young readers.
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Venture deep into space and enjoy the luxuries aboard the Hotelitor, a glamorous ship intent on rest and relaxation. As a crew member, Anna works as a level entry worker, but suddenly, the ship is attacked by giant alien monsters. As the ship tries to fight back, they are sent into hyperspace with no way home. It's up to Anna and other entry-level workers to come together while fighting other alien monsters while trying to find a home again.
Not quite as exciting and a bit bland during some parts, this graphic novel tries its hand at science fiction and space opera. The fighting scenes didn't seem engaging to read, the relationships between workers and guests were horrible, and the story didn't get anywhere. It can be hard to get into and be kept engaged throughout. The artwork was fine, but still, it wasn't engaging. A space and time tale of aliens, secrets, and one strange cult.
A fun and funny romp through a wacky world where a hotel can be a robot, you might get sucked through a weird wormhole thing to the other side of the galaxy, and dogs can be journalists. Well, at least one dog, and he's not nearly as appreciative as you'd think about being given the opportunity. Welcome to Hotelitor.
With an easy bubbly art style, this is one you'll find yourself reading from cover to cover without stopping. There's a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor through the whole thing that elevates it above "just for kids", but kids would find all of this fun (and appropriate) as well. My only complaint was that I wish it had been longer. The story felt like it would have benefited from some expansion in a few places. I especially wanted to know more about how things worked inside the robot. What is on each level, beyond just the the basic cross-cut diagram on the first pages of the book? Where are the restaurants? How do the rooms work? Do they have windows? Are there stairs or just elevators? Where do guests hang out when not in their rooms? WHAT'S IN THE LEGS? But hopefully my curiosity will be quelled when they make a sequel (I sure do hope they make a sequel).
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this eARC for unbiased review. This review will be cross-posted to my social media accounts closer to the book release date.
A funny and enjoyable story with some digs at capitalism--in space! The plot was clear and the art good. I think if the story was a little bit longer, certain character arc elements would have more room to fully develop, but overall I think it's well done.
Really creative idea to combine a hotel with a space colony's defense robot. Anna is delightful as the unpaid intern who goes from replenishing toilet paper to commanding the hotel in its space battles. The other characters are fun, too. Lot of action as well as subtle commentary on corporate greed and social inequality.
This was pretty goofy. Why would anyone put a hotel inside of Voltron? Well, for whatever reason, Josh Hicks did. Then he has them get lost in space and take on evil corporations. You know, like giant hotel mechas do. It tries its best to be irreverent. It never quite succeeds all that well though. It's fine but it's rarely funny.
I really enjoyed this read! On a surface level, it's a great take on space robots and travel. On a deeper level, I really enjoyed how the story handled the rich vs the poor dilemma. The twist regarding the secret mining project was also placed really well, I was surprised by it but not thrown off- it fit in well! Overall the story left me wanting more, which is what I like to feel after reading anything. I would recommend it to to anyone who enjoys a good space journey!
