I love the way Ellie Holcomb has set this up. Fighting Words is a devotional on how to take God's word and use it as our war cry, our fighting words of truth pushing back against the darkness of our times. Not overly complicated, just sweet, simple, grounded truths we can use to steady ourselves amidst the chaos. Love it and highly recommend it!!!

This was a beautiful devotional! Each devotion is well-written and the perfect length for starting the day in the Word. It is encouraging, and inspiring. This would make an ideal gift too.
I have enjoyed Ellie Holcomb’s music for years, but I had never read her writing. Fighting Words did not disappoint. It was full of the promises of scripture and real life application of how to hold onto to those promises. Highly recommend! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Genuine, honest, real. Ellie Holcomb has been on my TBR for awhile now; my sister enjoyed Holcomb’s children’s books. Confession: I’ve never heard her music, but I want to now. It felt like sitting down with a wonderful, godly sister over coffee, and each day was a reminder of how good the Lord and His Word is, has been, and will always be. Bonus points: it’s aesthetically pleasing.
An ARC read of the updated, expanded version. This may be a go-to gift for BSF ladies.
Her songwriting but in a devotional form....sign me up! It was terrific and I highly recommend. I loved the prayers during each devotional and of course incorporating scripture as well. Some days were so good I just kept reading instead of waiting for the next day. I guess you could do that though and read as many as you want or you could do one each day. Ellie has a way with words though for sure. I related to so many of the messages throughout and it has helped me in my walk with God.
Such a sweet, encouraging devotional filled with scripture passages of hope and empowering words! It has been nice going through this with my daughters.
Each day has a scripture, thoughts from the author (the devotional part), questions for us, and a prayer. The questions draw out your personal experiences and lead you to view them biblically!
These devotions appear short, but if you spend time pondering the questions and journaling your answers and prayers, they are definitely meaningful. Scripture memorization is encouraged!
I highly recommend this devotional!
I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Fighting Words is a 100 day devotional that’s perfect for anyone in any season, but if you’re in a season of hard, it feels especially poignant. I loved everything about this devotional and it will be one I purchase for myself as well as gift to others.
The format is approachable with a verse and a short devotion following and then ending with questions for reflection. There’s also a space for taking notes yourself and every so many pages, there’s beautiful scripture art. I loved learning more about Ellie’s music throughout- many of her songs were inspired by her personal fighting words: words of scripture she memorized with a friend to beat back the darkness when she felt surrounded. I love that this devotional doesn’t leave a person feeling alone and isolated; Ellie is open and vulnerable and uses scripture to exhort and encourage. What a gift.
I’d like to thank B&H Books and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Are you having trouble reconciling your faith with the world? What is holding you back from achieving your spiritual goals? I like this book of devotionals because it asks those kinds of questions.
The author speaks about her personal experience and provides supporting Scripture and testimony. There are also exercises, usually writing exercises, to help readers explore their own issues.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Ellie Holcomb is a Christian singer and author. While this book originally came out in 2021, it has been repackaged and new devotionals and artwork has been added. "Fighting Words Devotional: 100 Days of Speaking Truth into the Darkness" includes quick and easy-to-understand devotionals that are appropriate for busy women. I appreciate the way Holcomb referred to some of her favorite verses when she called them "lifer verses" and said that they are "the ones that have anchored me through the storms and shadows over the years. If they were stones, they'd be smooth from years of my carrying them around in my pocket and reaching for them in moments where I desperately needed to be reminded of love and truth."
THanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
I've found that devotionals can be hit or miss for me, thankfully, this one was a hit! If one simply reads the devotional it can feel a bit simple but if you take the time and do what Ellie suggests and memorize the verses and journal through the questions this is such a rich devotional, I can't wait to own a physical copy!
I loved this book so much that I purchased my own copy in order to mark highlights and write notes from it. I’m looking forward to going through this devotional book again. I loved the author’s writing style and found great encouragement each day as I read through the book. I’m hoping that the author will write another book again in the near future.

Fantastic devotional with different verses Ellie has memorized to help her fight through different situations in her life. Her thoughts and stories about each of the verses and how they have helped her through specific circumstances in her own life were powerful. I loved the prayers she shared at the end of each of the chapters and her invitation to memorize and fight along with her.
I have always been a huge Ellie Holcomb fan from the very beginning. When I learned she was writing a devotional, I was thrilled!
This devotional includes a Bible verse, a short devotional segment related to that, reflection questions, and lastly a prayer to close out each daily devotional entry. I really enjoyed this devotional, and the book itself is absolutely beautiful! The only thing was that I wished for a bit more depth in many of the entries. However, I would definitely still recommend this one and would absolutely purchase a copy for myself or a friend.
Thank you @netgalley for my gifted e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
