It's his birthday and Turkey is up to some new antics! I know I should probably lie and say that I read this to one of my nieces or something. Honestly, though, I just wanted to see what Turkey's been up to since my (now 11-year-old) son outgrew the Turkey Trouble series. Turkey Trouble and Turkey Claus were two of his very favorite books for a long time, and they're actually still in a box in my basement because they're two of the few picture books that I couldn't bring myself to donate.
So, yeah, it's Turkey's birthday and he's really hoping that Farmer Jake is going to throw him a pizza party! I've missed the books in the middle of the series, so I have no idea when Turkey stopped worrying about Farmer Jake turning him into dinner and started hoping for pizza parties instead, but good for him. Farmer Jake's family is up to something in the backyard and Turkey really, really wants to know if they're setting up for a birthday party for a certain fowl, so he does what Turkey does best … he breaks out his costumes! Surely they won't notice if there's an extra cupcake or candle strutting about?
This book is very, very punny. So many puns. They're definitely of the dad joke variety, but they fit perfectly with Turkey's crazy antics … which, if you've read any of the previous Turkey Trouble books, you know never go quite as planned. Luckily he has his other farm animal friends to help him out!
The pictures are fun and bright. The preschool and early elementary crowd will almost certainly love the cheery cartoon animals, and I definitely found myself rooting for Turkey to get the pizza party that he so desperately desires. The youngest readers will likely find themselves needing assistance with the text, but there really aren't too many difficult words – “spectacular” and “disguise” are about as hard as it gets.
While I'm not sure that I loved this one quite as much as the other Turkey Trouble books I've read (which is probably just due to the nostalgia I have for the early installments), it's still a delightfully fun read. Turkey is as sneaky as ever and aging hasn't slowed him down one bit!
My overall rating: 4.25 stars, rounded down.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Two Lions for providing me with an advance copy of this book to review. Its expected publication date is September 10, 2024.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to preview this book before it comes out in print. I am a teacher and this series has always been my favorite to read to my students. It has the same creative use of words through the pages that brings the turkey's story to life. I cannot wait until it is in print because I will for sure be buying myself a copy so I can share it with my students!
The turkey books are a favorite at my library story-time. I've read all the books so far in this series and the kids are going to love that there's a new book coming this fall! I hope there will be more in the future!
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

This is a fun children's book that follows Turkey and his farm animal friends as they celebrate his birthday. Turkey is trying to get a sneak peak at his birthday party decorations but the children keep all details a secret until everything is set up and ready for the reveal. It is full of bright and colourful illustrations and jokes for the whole family.
Turkey’s Birthday Bash by Wendi Silvano is a fun and exciting story about a Turkey trying to spy on the farmer’s family to see what is going on in the backyard. Is it for his birthday or did everyone forget what today is? The illustration of the story helps add to suspense and brings so much to the story. My kiddos loved talking about every page through the book!
* Thank you NetGalley, Two Lions, and Wendi Silvano for an eARC book of Turkey’s Birthday Bash.
Waiting is not easy and children are not the most patient but this book takes them on an adventure. Turkey’s curiosity gets the better of him and complete hilarity ensues as he tries to find out if he will be getting a pizza birthday party! An entertaining read for sure. Bright and colourful, too.
This was such a funny and clever children’s book. I’m sure many younger readers will love this, I’m thinking of getting the whole series for my nephew. The illustrations were so cute and the characters were incredible. I loved the Turkey in this and the surprise pizza party thrown, this was such a spectacular story!

Turkeys Birthday Bash is a really cute children’s story. The Turkey wants to find out if he is getting pizza for his birthday. His animal friends help him dress up in disguises. Read it to your children and grandchildren I know they will love the story.
Turkey’s Birthday Bash is a children’s book written by Wendi Silvano.
Summary: Turkey’s birthday is today.
He wants a party.
He wants food.
He wants to know what the farmer and his family are doing in the backyard.
Turkey decides to do whatever it takes to find out-is he getting a birthday party, or not?
My Thoughts: This book wasn’t my favorite.
I didn’t love the storyline. And maybe I just took it the wrong way, but it seemed like the turkey was a little entitled (if you can say that about a turkey.)
I will say that the colorful and detailed illustrations are nice, and the main character really does get up to some silly shenanigans, which is fun.
Overall, this one wasn’t really for me, and I don’t know that it is one I would want to read again and again.
I would like to thank Two Lions for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you.
Thank you to Netgalley, Two Lions, and Wendi for an advance copy of Turkey's Birthday Bash!
It’s Turkey’s birthday, but no one is celebrating. In fact, no one even seems to know about it. Even stranger, Farmer Jake and his family are up to something in the backyard. And Turkey isn’t allowed to see what it is. Good thing he knows how to be sneaky—and that his friends help him put together the best disguises. Turkey dresses up as everything from a candle to a cupcake, but try as he might, he can’t get past the family. It just may be that Turkey is in for a birthday surprise or two…
Luke's review: This book was about Turkeys birthday. Him wanted pizza and a party. My favorite part was when he dressed up as a donkey to sneak in. I also like when he was happy!
My Review: What's not to like about Turkey? The books are always silly and heartfelt. Luke has read several and he never fails to laugh. My big complaint is the format on Kindle was not user-friendly.
Another fabulous addition to the series! This is perfect for little ones who enjoy sneaky characters who are loved anyway. The whole series is super silly from the writing to the illustrations. A great choice for the preschool - lower elementary age range.
We are in the middle of birthday season in our house and the kids are busting with anticipation and looking forward to birthday parties with an over abundance of excitement and impatience so Turkey's antics to figure out if he was getting a birthday party were right on point. We laughed and joked about how over the top turkey was (although they didn't see the connection) and celebrated when Turkey got his surprise at the end.
The illustrations in this one are really fun too. Bright and beautiful, busting with energy.
This was a really fun read and perfectly timed for our 5, 6 and 8 year olds.
3.5 Stars
This read was available on Net Galley so I grabbed a vault to read with my daughter. The illustrations were cute. My only issue was a felt like Turkey was whiny and I would never be expecting people to be throwing me a party. He kept trying to find out if they were throwing him one and it would have ruined the party. But I did like all of his ideas to try and figure out if there would be a party.
I’m not sure if we would recommend this book.
Thanks to Netgalley and Two Lions for letting us read a copy.
'Turkey's Birthday Bash' by Wendi Silvano is a hilarious book about an impatient turkey. It's Turkey's birthday and it seems that no one has remembered it's his birthday! There is something happening in Farmer Jake's backyard, but Turkey can't see what it is. In order to figure out what they are doing, Turkey gathers his friends together. He helps his friends put together various disguises so that he can sneak into the backyard. As a way to make the book even funnier, the author uses play on words. Here are a few examples.
"SHEAR up," said Sheep. As it relates to cheering up.
"You'd BATTER go back to the barn." Upon arriving disguised as a cupcake, turkey is discovered. He'd better get back to the barn because they're making a cake.
Turkey disguises himself as a rope-wicked tall candle made of trash cans. A box of matches is brought out by Millie, Farmer Jake's daughter, to light the big tall candle. Turkey leaps out of trash can candle and runs. Millie yells, "That's as FIRE as you go! BLOW on out of here..."
In the end, all farm animals are called to the backyard. Turkey as well. "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TURKEY!" This surprised Turkey so much. In addition to decorations, there were games, ice cream, and cupcakes. Best of all, there was PIZZA! For his birthday, Turkey really wanted pizza.
"CRUST me...this is going to be the most SUPER-SPECTACULAR birthday ever!" said Turkey.
Lee Harper's illustrations are amazing. They complement the story perfectly. The illustrations themselves tell the story pretty well. In addition to being colorful, the illustrations are entertaining as well.
I enjoyed everything about this book. This is a book I highly recommend.
A funny little story which would be great for younger children to help them identify their farm animals
I just reviewed Turkey's Birthday Bash by Wendi Silvano (Author), Lee Harper (Illustrator). #TurkeysBirthdayBash #NetGalley
Fab children’s book which represents a lot of us who don’t like surprises and just have to know. Turkey has a special request for pizza for his birthday and know his family are planning something. He gets dressed up in multiple costumes to try and sneak in but always gets discovered. The book is full of pizza related puns like knead to know and holy Stromboli and Crust me in.
This was the first Turkey Trouble book we’d read in our house and I can say it won’t be the last. Going to go back and work through the back log.
Who doesn’t love a surprise and that might be exactly what is in store for Turkey.
This was an entertaining and fun book with lots of excellent animal illustration that really made the characters come alive.
Turkey is feeling a little blue because he has been dreaming of his birthday for weeks and wants a party but it seems that everyone has forgotten his birthday. He really wants a pizza party. Sheep tells him something is going on in the backyard maybe it is a party. So he decides he will put on a disguise and go check it out. He dresses like a cupcake. But that disguise didn't work. So then he decided to go as a big candle. But then he almost got set on fire. So then Rooster suggested that he dress as a donkey for the pin the tail on the donkey game. That didn't work either so Cow suggested he dress as a pinata. That didn't work either and Turkey was very sad. He didn't think they were planning a party for him at all. Then the farmer invited all the animals into the backyard for lunch. Happy Birthday Turkey!!
Wendy Silvano and Lee Harper deliver another delightful Turkey dilemma in Turkey’s Birthday Bash. Readers will not be disappointed while following Turkey’s many disguises to help sneak into backyard preparations for…a birthday party for him? I enjoyed Silvano’s play on words as it adds humor which gave it page-turnability for me. Lee Harper’s illustrations are full of energy. The author and illustrator created Turkey and his farmyard companions with heart which makes this book and all the Turkey adventures a must for my elementary library collection.
The books in the Turkey Trouble series are a classroom hit year after year - and Turkey's Birthday Bash will be the perfect addition to the classroom library. Full of Turkey and his wildly hilarious actions (guaranteed to make a classroom full of kids laugh out loud), in addition to such vibrant illustrations, it's sure to be a popular and highly-requested read aloud. What a fun read!
