This was such a funny and great read.
I love how all of the animals tried to help Turkey sneak peeks at his birthday bash and all of the fails along the way. Turkey had such a great birthday party.. All of the hints, the laughs and the depictions. Animals flying around, the different disguises, etc.
I would definitely purchase a hard copy of this book for my toddler. We enjoyed this.\
We volunteered to read a copy of this ARC through NetGalley.
I love Wendi Silvano’s Turkey books and reading them to my 2nd grade class. Our
favorites are Turkey Claus and Turkey Trouble. I didn’t realize the author had many more Turkey books. This one was really cute and I will definitely be purchasing it for my classroom, along with others by the same author.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first time reading a Turkey Trouble book. It felt like reading a cartoon with lots of farm animals and their mischief.
It’s Turkey’s birthday but none of the other animals remembered it. He was dreaming of having a pizza party and when farmer Jake’s family is up to something in the backyard, he tries to check it out by disguising himself over and over, with the help of the other animals but with questionable and funny results. There were also lots of word puns, some better than others.
The beautiful illustrations looked like paintings, although I’m not the biggest fan of how the family looked.
This had a happy ending and was quite entertaining.
I love Turkey. This is such a fun series kids love. I would not have expected a birthday book in the series but was happily surprised. Turkeys disguises are the best.
Turkey's Birthday Bash is about just that, a turkey's surprise birthday bash. Turkey and his gang of farm friends are all working to get Turkey a glance at the party he is sure their humans are throwing for him, but unfortunately he gets thwarted every time he gets close enough to see what it is they're planning. Towards the end he has had enough...almost. This is a great way to involve animals into a hilarious story about an animal's birthday party and shows just what true friendship is.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy of Turkey's Birthday Bash by Wendi Silvano and Lee Harper in exchange for honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book and I can see it being fun for children. I really liked the illustrations. I also believe the story will be easy to follow for young children. I also liked that the book taught children important lessons about friendship. So in that sense it is fun and educational. The best of both worlds. I would buy this book for a potential child in my life.

My kids and I enjoyed reading turkeys birthday story. They didn’t quite grasp all the puns so we had to stop throughout the story to explain what they meant. I loved the colorful photos of the farm animals and definitely craved pizza after the story was done.
I wanted to like this book a lot more than I ended up liking it, the story itself was cute and I enjoyed that but I wasn't the biggest fan of the art style and that is one of the biggest influences on my enjoyment of the book, as well as this the jokes and puns were cringey to me more than funny but I don't think that this is a bad book, I just think that it wasn't for me.
I was sent this e-Arc on Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
A cute story! It’s full of fun pun although I had to explain most of them to my four year old. We had fun reading it.
Super cute book!
My toddler loved the silliness of all the turkeys different disguises - while my preschooler enjoyed the play on words. She would giggle every time a regular word was exchanged for a food word. Both kids enjoyed the story and the over all happy ending for the turkey!
It's a great story for kids who love animals and it is overall full of silliness.
The only reason for less stars, I don't see it as a "repeat read". My kids were very much once and done with it.
Would you love to see how Turkey gets himself all dressed up again? What a fun story to ignite a discussion on characters and vocabulary as the sheep, cow and pig all participate in a feather raising adventure. Just wait and see what turkey becomes in this birthday adventure.
I haven't read any of the Turkey books before so maybe you need to have read the previous books to really enjoy the characters. But I just found this a little meh. The artwork was not to my liking, despite originally being drawn to this for the cover. The human figures were a little too distorted and reminded me of a painting that my mom has that I used to call the scary baby.
I can, however, look past the illustrations and to the story. But it never quite resonated with me. I was actually annoyed with Turkey for most of the book and found that his costumes were just really odd. And I get that they were supposed to be odd, but they never quite worked. I do think that the lesson in the story around not trying to spoil surprises gets buried in the antics of Turkey and his friends. I also don't get why his friends would try to spoil the surprise by helping him, since it seems they were "in on it" from the start.
Lastly, and this is just being nit picky, but I truly thought that we would be surprised by the party in some way. But the animals basically give away the party plans from the outset, and they all wish him a happy birthday in such an anti-climatic way because of it. I guess Turkey wanting to confirm his birthday is being celebrated and how is the point of the story, but I really wanted it to be a bit more that he was thinking everyone forgot and trying to figure out what they were all doing. Maybe that's too close to another story though not involving turkeys.
Although, I guess Turkey was a turkey so ....
This is a lovely children's book with really cute drawings that are detailed and eye-catching. Kids will enjoy making the sounds of farm animals as they read along. Plus, there are lots of funny word jokes that add to the fun. It's a great book for little ones, with beautiful illustrations, interactive elements, and plenty of humor that both kids and parents will appreciate.
Such a delightful children’s book full of vibrant illustrations. My children really enjoyed this story. We shared lots of laughs together at a few of the parts.. like when the turkey kept sneaking to try to get past the family. Overall this was a charming tale.
It's Turkey's birthday, and he REALLY wants a pizza party! He's supposed to be in the barn while his family plans a special surprise in the backyard, but he just can't wait to find out if he's getting a pizza party. With the help of his friends, Turkey dresses up in all sorts of silly costumes to sneak into the backyard. This book is silly, full of fun puns. I love the friendship between Turkey and the other animals. The illustrations are also fantastic. This is a heartwarming story that kids will love!
Thank you to NetGalley and Two Lions for the ARC!
Super cute, silly, and lots of puns. My kids love turkey and his silly plans and disguises. A definite win.
I enjoyed Turkey’s Birthday Bash and found it perfect for the younger crowd. The silly jokes and play on words were entertaining. The disguises and mishaps along the way helped keep my interest. I’m glad Turkey enjoyed his birthday in the end. This book can be used to teach about patience (poor Turkey didn’t have any), how good things come to those who wait, and word usage. If used in the school setting, I would brainstorm a list of disguises with the children, and then have them create them using craft supplies.
My son and I enjoyed this book a lot. He loved the silly costumes. I loved the goofy puns sprinkled in and how turkey’s friends helped him to see what could be happening in the backyard. Very cute book about friendship and celebrating that friendship.
Three cheers! This birthday book is full of clever merriment. From the farm animal antics to the silly costumes turkey wears to spy on the birthday planning to the color abound in the illustrations... this book is great read out loud.
Thank you NetGalley for a review copy.
Very cute children's book about a surprise birthday party for a special turkey. Loved all the different costumes and all the hijinks turkey and friends got up to. I loved the ending that all the friends got to have a super fun pizza party, just like what turkey wanted. This is perfect for kids.
