I can't decide if this book is the best idea, or the worst idea. My first thought was "Oh good, so when my son inevitably hears someone (one of his uncles) say boobies we can explain it with this!" But that was quickly followed up by "Oh no, my son might end up walking around telling random people he loves boobies". I'd say that's more of a personal choice though lol
The book was adorable overall, with a cute message and a slew of opportunities to say boobies.
{Thank you bunches to NetGalley & publisher for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!}
This book is a short read. I liked that while it is a fun read for kids there is an important underlying message similar to Romeo and Juliet. When the birds stop focusing on their differences they open themselves to love. There is also some educational information about boobies on the last few pages. I recommend this book.
“Boobies are silly”. This story was silly and we loved it! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
"Silly Boobies" is a picture book written by Ame Dyckman and illustrated by Christopher Weyant. It is a loose retelling of Romeo and Juliet as well as "The Sneetches" by Seuss. There are two different types of boobies (the birds) living close together on two islands. There are the red-footed boobies on one and the blue-footed boobies on the other. In the middle is a small rock with an old hermit crab on it. When a red-footed boobie and a blue-footed boobie bump into each other while reading on the small rock island, they fall in love. A short and cute book that gives you a little bit of information both in the story and in the notes afterward. A recommended purchase for picture book collections.
My daughter and I read this book together and we both very much enjoyed it. It was a great story to show children what discrimination looks like and how when it’s put aside beautiful things can come of it. The art work in this book was very well done. The subtle humour for the adults in using boobies as the bird of choice I thought was very entertaining. Overall a great book for all children.
Great illustrations, great love story of two different type of seabirds. Great story for children to choose love not hate and the most important to accept the difference between us. We are the same who need love and appreciation.
This book has a good message about acceptance and how people can be different and we should give others a chance regardless of what others think. I love how it introduces the birds and what they are called. Alot of people do not realize that boobies are a type of bird. I would read this to my class AFTER an introduction to the bird and their names. Super cute book though!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Silly Boobies.
This is a frickin' cute book about love and acceptance.
I especially love how the boobies met accidentally because they were both reading books.
I learned quite a few things about boobies myself.
The language is simple and humorous, not dumbed down, open to further discussion if children have questions.
The illustrations are also adorable.
A delightfully fun to read picture book!
This quick paced story is like a boobie Romeo and Juliet- but with a happy ending! Two kinds of boobies (red and blue footed) live on separate rocks until one day a pair collide and bond over their love of books. The ensuing relationship is frowned upon by each side, until a baby is born and everything changes.
You'll say "boobie" more than ever and enjoy it every time.
