Entertaining enough book although it didn't do anything drastically different from others in the genre. I like the characters and how they grew to care about each other by the end but the art wasn't doing it for me. The creatures were detailed but because they were completely red everything blurred together. When in panels with fire it was hard disguising the creatures from the orange flames. But if the story sounds interesting you should still read it because you might enjoy it.

Really enjoyed this graphic novel. It does make you wonder about what the government is hiding, doesn't it?

First I would like to thank Mad Cave Studio and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC.

It was a fantastic read! It's really funny, the horror and art are great, the pacing is perfect and the art gorgeous.
The cast of characters is small and they are all very engaging.
I loved this book and highly recommend it.

Netgalley Review

Star Rating: ★★★★☆

This was pretty awesome, made me chuckle, interesting storyline, and I'd be okay to see where the story goes. It's a quick read, but you the author does great with making you love the characters in a short amount of time.

Overall I think it was worth the read and am excited to grab the next one already.

The premise and execution of Skeeters are as thin as the page its printed on. A backwoods town is under assault by alien mosquitos and the only thing standing in their way of global domination is the 27-year-old sheriff, a pair of delivery boys, and a government agent studying the alien creatures. It's a goopy, gory, straight to video B-movie stoner horror book that posits a question I'm sure very few have ever asked with 'what if Jay from Jay and Silent Bob fame was the only thing standing between us and the end of the world?'

Co-writers Bob Frantz and Kevin Cuffe waste no time escalating the threat levels, spends even less time than that on character development, and even less time on meaningful or memorable dialogue. I'm guessing it took about five minutes to write each of the four issues collected here and am admittedly stupefied it took two people to write this thing. Kelly Williams's art is mostly enjoyable in a suitably nasty looking sort of way. His monster designs manage to be both familiar and suitably alien-esque even if the creatures mostly end up looking a lot like Jeff Goldblum's The Fly but with an enormous proboscis to suck and skewer all manner of Earth life.

Skeeters isn't good, but I imagine there are worse ways to kill a half-hour. I did read this sober and realize in hindsight that's probably not the best way to consume this particular melange. It probably wouldn't hurt to light up before, during, and after, and might even make this whole thing better. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

A small town gets attacked by giant mutant mosquitoes. Cheesy, B-Level, SyFy channel horror at its best. The art is fine. It's pretty grody at times though.

This was so much gory fun. I loved it

I love a good creature feature with a bit of comedy, and this is exactly that, the artwork is beautiful and gory, and the writing was compelling and action packed with a few laugh out loud moments scattered throughout the story.

It reminds me of some of my favourite movies like Slither form 2006, and Tremors from 1990.

I highly recommend this graphic novel to anyone who loves there gory carnage with some funny one liners in it.

This book, y’all! It was WILD!
Lots of colorful blood. Lots.
Big, bold, bloody.
Alien insects.
What’s up with the dog at the very end of the book? Noo. Not the dog.

The art in this one was great. Loved the blood, seriously, obsessed with all the blood everywhere! The drawings bring out so much action, the drawings tell the story so well. And of course, it was not all blood, it’s just something that for some unknown to me reason spoke to me the most throughout the book.
No, but seriously, this book was great. Perfect for any age (starting from teens) people who love graphic novels. It’s entertaining, silly, it’s fun and action-packed. And the art with all the blood, yes, ok, I can’t get over how much I still enjoyed the blood, haha!

(Full disclosure: I received a free e-ARC for review through NetGalley. Content warning for general gore and violence.)

-- 3.5 stars --

Kankakee, Virginia. Population 8,736 - and not a single Applebee's to be found. Nothing much happens here ... or so that's what they want you to believe. "They" being the folks at The Sands Institute, a super-secret private research lab, and the East Coast's answer to Area 51.

When a power surge causes an alien pod to hatch, head of security Ronald Smith sacrifices the lives of several employees to contain the threat. Or so he thinks. Naturally, things go sideways and mutant mosquitoes rampage through the town. (During the Kankakee Seafood Festival, no less!) It's up to Sheriff Carla McCord, exterminators JJ and Luis, bloodhound Bradley, and Smith to slay the aliens and save Kankakee.

SKEETERS is silly, gore horror fun. With its conspiracy theories, black ops agents, and improbable baddies, it almost feels like a "monster of the week" episode of THE X-FILES. It's weird and fun and super-gross - a quick yet entertaining read. I especially loved the denouement (weed as far as the eye can see!). My only complaint is the art, which is definitely arresting - but, with the monsters being drawn in blobs of red and yellow, it wasn't always easy to follow the action, or classify what we were seeing. (Mosquitoes are just the beginning tbh.)

This was soooooo much fun to read. In the vein of SyFy creature features but actually funny and well done. Loved the art style too.

I received a free ARC, and this review is voluntary

There's not much to say, really. Giant mosquitos have invaded a small town, and panic ensues. What transpires, however, is possibly the best thing I've read all year for a graphic novel of the horror variety. Here's why:

This greatly reminded me of those B-movie horror types like Eight Legged Freaks, Zombeavers, or Stung. The inspiration derived from the classics of then and now set the stage for an amazing story. When it came to the dialog, it was perfect for each scene. The colors of each panel set the tone for the scene.

All-in-all, it's just an awesome story, especially for those of us that have a fondness for the cheesy horror movies. You can never have too much cheese, and this graphic novel does the job in capturing that well.

bloody good fun, with a hearty balance of action and comedy in this horror graphic novel. for fans of old-school creature features and stylized nastiness, this one's for you. i found this one to really subvert the expectations of the contemporary horror genre--sometimes, a return to tradition is a good thing.

I was so excited to receive this copy of Skeeters. I had previously seen the comic prev from my local comic shop and was intrigued by the art work. I am also a big fan with the creativity in a lot of Indie comic story plots.
The story was a fun and disgusting ride. It had interesting creatures and characters. Plenty of funny moments in both lines and character expressions in the artwork.
It ended with an unexpected solution to their problem which I really liked. Will def be on the look out for more.
Thank you Mad Cave Studios and NetGalley for the early preview.
