The best of these stories is “The Ghost Writer,” by Loreth Anne White. I’m a sucker for a Lizzie Borden reference, and though this was very predictable, I still liked the story. “The Other Side of the Road,” by Andrea Bartz, was my second favorite. I felt like that one could have been longer, and I would have enjoyed having the characters worked out a bit more. I didn’t really enjoy the others. “Everywhere You Look” by Liv Constantine was not very interesting to me - it seemed very plot-driven with little characterization overall. “Scorpions” was grotesque. "Jackrabbit Skin" was similar in vibe, creepy and unsettling. “The Bad Friend” overused “you” as a narrative technique when I could not relate to the main character at all. I thought this last one was my least favorite, and the collection overall was difficult to get through past “The Other Side of the Road,” which was the third in the collection.
Thanks to NetGalley and Amazon Original Stories for this ARC to review!
Never Tell is the latest Amazon Originals collection filled with stories about secrets.
In order of appearance:
"Everywhere You Look" was pretty okay, the reader can tell that Jade is still struggling with the loss of her father, even years later. For a short this had a great twist and a good resolution.
"The Ghost Writer" suuuuper descriptive! Dark, mysterious, foreboding, filled with a sense of unease. I loved the ending of this one. Again, I loved the twist.
"The Other Side of the Road" had a wild twist! This is about creepy neighbors and I def got the creepy feels throughout, especially with the setting of an old house.
"Scorpions" this was middle of the road for me. I liked that it was well-resolved but I didn't have enough time to connect to the main character (although that's what you get with a short story).
"Jackrabbit Skin" for some reason I really liked this one, we don't get to know the two main characters all that well but we know the important aspects and it made me (weirdly) like them more.
"The Bad Friend" told in Caroline Kepnes' signature second person POV (though not so much like the You series as we aren't in the head of someone like Joe). This one had my least favorite secret/ twist but I liked the way it was written overall.
Thoroughly enjoyable collection of short stories by some of the best writers in the business. Diverse tales that are fast paced and impossible to put down. Liv Constantine’s story was my favorite, but they are all really good.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (average)
Never Tell Story collection was interesting but I discovered that I am not a fan of a lot of short stories in one go. It felt complicated to switch between so many characters and storylines.
This collection opened strong but ended flat. I didn't enjoy the last 3 stories as much as I liked the first 3. Definitely first and third were my favorite ones!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Everywhere You Look Liv Constantine was brilliant! Straight to the point, entertaining, interesting storyline, and absolutely lovable main character! Loved the twists, didn't expect them. All in all fantastic straightforward story!
Jade's life gets shaken when she thinks she sees her dad who died 10 years ago. She starts some digging without realizing that it is hard to deal with dark secrets from the past!
Liv Constantine’s Everywhere You Look is part of Never Tell, a heart-pounding collection of stories about secrets, lies, and mind games.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Ghost Writer by Loreth Anne White was an intense and thrilling story! So much action in one short story! There was enough suspense and chills and a good end twist.
When ghostwriter Grace receives the offer to write the memoir of Claudia Blackwell. Claudia Blackwell was accused of triple murder but never was prosecuted... everyone wants to know what happened! Will Grace be the one who will write up this secret?
Loreth Anne White’s The Ghost Writer is part of Never Tell, a heart-pounding collection of stories about secrets, lies, and mind games.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Other Side of the Road by Andrea Bartz was good. Oh wow, this was good! So good!! The last twist made me gasp! Such a perfect story! I would love this as a full-length book! I got hucked straight away and was so into the story and was sad that this was fast-forwarded. I definitely want a bit more of this author!
Kelsey and Lauren just moved into their dream home! Perfect family home! but things get creepy when a neighbor appears on the doorstep...
That ending... wow!
⭐⭐⭐
Scorpions Rachel Howzell Hall was a sort of film Mummy just without Mummy. This story wasn't for me. I believe that it was hard for me to connect with the main topic in this story as didn't feel realistic. And none of the characters felt exciting. good as a short story as it was quick and straight to the point.
⭐⭐⭐
Jackrabbit Skin by Ivy Pochoda was... Nope, this wasn't for me.
I just couldn't connect with the story! I tried but I couldn't. And I am not sure I liked the storyline. I would say, it was good for a short story but if this were a full-length book I would struggle to finish.
It just didn't make a lot of sense.
⭐⭐⭐
The Bad Friend by Caroline Kepnes unfortunately wasn't for me. First of all, I am not a fan of books that are written in the second person. I just struggle to wrap my head around it and constantly get confused. So this took away the focus of the story.
The story itself wasn't bad just not for me.
Thank you, NetGalley for this collection!
Nice collection of stories from a talented group of writers. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book
I really enjoyed this collection of short thriller stories. With each story being between 30 and 60 pages they are perfect for binging in one sitting. And while they may be short, they are definitely still filled with some shocking twists and turns.
Amazon delivers another short story collection. Overall this gets three stars. Some of the stories are trying to pack way too much information in too short of a page count.
Every story is totally intriguing and addicting. What a perfect compilation of autjors and stories. I read them in one night I was so hooked. What a treat to read my favorite thriller authors all in one. Loved it!
A really fun collection of short stories by some of today's best thriller writers. There isn't a bad one in the bunch, but I especially enjoyed Ivy Pochoda's and Caroline Kepnes' entries. This collection is a great, suspenseful, quick read. My only suggestion was that I would have loved to hear this in audiobook format! Can't wait for more from all of these authors - they are some of my current favorites.
Enjoyed most of these stories a lot of time in collections like this you o ly have 1 or 2 good ones but there was only 1 that I didn’t like much so I would recommend this collection
This book consists of 6 short stories told by some of the best psychological thriller authors. This book contains books from Liv Constintine, Rachel Howzell Hall, Loreth Anne White, Andrea Bartz, Ivy Pochoda, Carline Kepnes. All of the short stories are fast paced and give that creepy tales from the crypt vibes. I really enjoyed each of the stories a few of them more than others.
Live Constintine- Everywhere you look- this story was fast paced, and go right into the action. However, I was made about the ending I felt cheated lol. i needed more, i needed to see how things worked out for the main characters and their family members. I felt this book leaves the reading on a cliffhanger. I gave this book 3/5 stars
Loreth Anne White- The Ghost Writer- In typical Loreth fashion this book was insane, action packed and just when you thought you had it figured out it will surprise you and leave you wanting more. Congratulations Loreth this is the second book that you have sucked me into your vortex of writing with. I gave this book 3/5 stars.
Andrea Bartz- The Other Side of the Road- This book will have you questioning anyone and everyone it will have you trying to decide who did what, and if you can trust even those close to you. How far would you be willing to go to get the house of your dreams? How much do you love your spouse to make their dreams come true? Creepy neighbor or are they trying to warn you about the harm that's within your own home. 4/5 stars.
Rachel Howzell Hall- Scorpions- This book was unusual just like the other book i have read by Rachel, she has a very unique and interesting writing style, it often comes off as slow, but the endings will hook, line, and sink you. I love Rachel's work and look forward to reading more of her books in the future. This book has me rooting for the underdog, but the ending left me so confused and sad. 4/5 stars.
Ivy Pochoda- Jackrabbit Skin- this is my first book by this author however this book gave me creepy stalker, cult vibes so if creepy stalking vibes is what you are into then i recommend this short story. This story has a lot of action packed into it and it will leave you contemplating your choices at the end. 3/5 stars.
Caroline Kepnes- The Bad Friend- I have never read a book by this author, this was an interesting concept and an overall good book, it was engaging and keeps the reading flipping the pages to see what happens next. 3/5 stars.
I just reviewed Never Tell by Liv Constantine, Loreth Anne White, Andrea Bartz, Rachel Howzell Hall, Ivy Pochoda, Caroline Kepnes. #NeverTell #NetGalley
i love reading short stories so ofc i had to read never tell !! a collection with six short stories all about thriller with its secrets that will be discovered.
~ everywhere you look by liv constantine ~
jade had a stressful week in “everywhere you look” ! a couple days before her birthday she finds out that she has been cheated on and apparently her father is alive after being “dead” for the last ten years? jade starts to dig up old memories and hopefully she’ll find her dad but never in a million years she would dream about finding out secrets about her past and what really happened on the day her dad died.
it was a fun read, i didn’t guess the whole secret right and i wish there was more at the end but a good story to start the collection with !!
~ the ghost write by loreth anne white ~
MY FAVORITE ONE !!!!
grace logan was chosen to write a memoir of claudia blackwell, a woman from the same smalltown as grace, their difference? grace was accused of a triple murder but was never convicted. years later she’s ready to share secrets and hopefully the world is as well. she will spend her days at the same island as claudia and her employees, but during her stay she learns that there was another ghost writer who ended up dead and grace starts to think she’s next.
after reading this short story i need to read loreth’s other books !!!!!!! i was HOOKED since the beginning, i couldn’t even think about the truth from the murders because i just wanted to finish the book to find out and i can say IM NOT DISAPPOINTED !!!! the scene in which we find out the whole truth gave me THE CHILLS !!! it’s definitely worth reading in one go because it was an amazing writing and plotting for 65 pages !!!!! i’m really excited for the audiobook because i gotta see how it turns out !
~ the other side of the road by andrea bartz ~
lauren and kelsey are a happy married couple who can finally live in their dream house which was on sale so it was the perfect event since they’re expecting a baby boy. they loved the environment but they learned that the previous owner thought she was being stalked before dying and apparently their neighbor is giving weird vibes to the couple…
i liked this one !! i just found it funny that she learned the truth and did nothing about it, i guess family is family.
~ scorpions by rachel howzell hall ~
in “scorpions” we meet frankie who learns a secret from ruben, she used to be his caregiver till he passed away. the secret? he buried a lot of money in a ghost town but in two weeks, developers will teardown everything and bye bye money. frankie will have to work as fast as she can but everything changes when she learns that other people also know about the secret but she’s the only one with the location. the worst part? more secrets will surface and much more is to come till the end of the story.
it was predictable that the family knew about it and i had my doubts about them ofc and in my opinion it was crystal clear that they didn’t want to share with her since she “isn’t family” while they had to put up with ruben or should i say victor. this one had one catastrophe behind another ! the ending was kinda sad because everyone… you know ! but i had fun !
~ jackrabbit skin by ivy pochoda ~
swam started living in a new community in california and she gotta work so what’s better than her neighbor requesting a tattoo? she had no idea that it was a tattoo about his dead wife and she refuses to keep going with the sessions but she gives in. at the same time she learns the truth about melanie’s death and the community.
this was a nice thriller short story but it was confusing…. i wanted more of kurt talking and the neighbors…. i’m just gonna say that they’re all weirdos lol. i thought this one was gonna be my least favorite but it’s on the top 5 i think !
~ the bad friend by caroline kepnes ~
in “the bad friend” we meet ellen, troy, tanya and ross, years later we also meet abigail, josie and maxine. ellen and troy are engaged and tanya is hanging out with ross but the girls lose contact after ellen gets married. in the future someone from the past appears in her life and it changes everything but learning about a secret she never thought would be true was a whole new level.
this one is the most different one in the collection to me. it has huge time jumps. and in my opinion not really well done but still can be “kinda” enjoyable, i hated the secret so there’s that.
on the first page i was wondering why she was with troy if she felt like that???? it makes no sense. i didn’t expect about abigail but for the ending it makes sense (yes i still hate how this was done). the only fun part in this was the girls trying to set them up but now i hate it. troy and ellen needed to have a real talk because jesus christ what was that.
i enjoyed reading never tell collection but i gotta say that this one was my least favorite one.
thank you netgalley and amazon original stories team for this arc <3
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.
I was super excited that this series was "read now" on NetGalley because of all the popular authors taking part in the collection. Unfortunately, I had conflicting thoughts about this series. Three of the books, I enjoyed, while the other three were not my taste. My favorite was the Liv Constantine story, and my second favorite was The Other Side of the Road by Andrea Bartz. The other ones were a little too dark and creepy for my taste, unfortunately. I hope Amazon continues to partner with other popular authors!

This is a Really good a diverse collection of short stories that exposes you to many different thriller authors. I really liked that they were page turners
I love these short story collections by Amazon. The Never Tell collection has some great authors and some truly interesting, and complex short stories.
I’m always so impressed by people who can write such intriguing tales in such a short window of time.
This collection is worth the read.
These Amazon Collections have been some of my favorite things over the past two years. I love to gobble them up between books as little pallet cleansers.
I also love how the collections are stand alone books but tied to one theme, and it’s all how you read them to interpret them.
This collection is probably one of my favorites they have put out.
I was drawn to this collection of stories by the list of amazing thriller authors. I have read previous Amazon short story collections and really enjoyed them. But I felt that all of these stories fell flat. It took me a while to get through them all and they didn’t draw me in like I had hoped.
I love these short story collections! Always so versatile with an all-star author cast. Can't go wrong!
Big thanks to Amazon Original Stories and NetGalley for this treat!
"Never Tell" is a collection of short stories about secrets, by some of today's top mystery-thriller writers, three of whom I had read before & two (Liv Constantine & C. Kepnes) whose work I follow and read. Both of those stories were worth the time, particularly the Constantine, and the others were good intros to new-to-me authors. Many thanks to the publisher for the "read now" DRC and Net Galley - my pleasure to review this collection!
This book is a set of short stories put together by an absolutely fantastic group of authors!
The stories all kept me guessing and kept me wanting to turn the pages faster than I could even read.
Definitely recommend adding this to your TBR for some quick, easy, and thrilling reads.
