The Walker sisters have always been close. Despite older sister Maddie escaping their hometown and pursuing her ambitious medical education, she and sister Alex have always spent the week of Alex’s Birthday together. But this year is different. The sisters have recently had a fight. When Maddie doesn’t show up, deletes her social media accounts and stops responding to phone calls and texts, Alex knows something is deeply wrong. She decides to take matters into her own hands and sets off to Maddie’s last known location - The Hamptons. This destination holds many secrets and lies but can Alex uncover the details behind her sister’s mysterious disappearance or is it already too late?

Oh man! First of all, I loved the nefarious narratives. There are SEVERAL points of view and for me they worked cohesively to slowly flush out the big picture. Well all of them with the exception of one, but I will come back to that.

From the beginning I had an eerie feeling. The alternating perspectives ramped up the suspense level and had my mind guessing at every potential outcome. The writing is extremely immersive and I felt myself quickly pulled into a story I could not put down. Fast-paced and dynamic, this is a must-read!

The one perspective that didn’t hit the mark for me was The Wharf. That perspective felt like a red herring that never evolved.

Honestly though, I cannot recommend this book enough. Go pick it up while I go find the other two mentioned books by my this author!

Alex and Maddie grew up like twins, though they were not.
Their unconventional upbringing was a bit trying and Maddie took off for college as soon as
she finished high school and never looked back Though they lived very different lives, they
always met up every summer for a week spent together and talked all the time. When Maddie
drops off the grid and stops returning messages, Alex panics and heads to the Hamptons where
Maddie was last known to be. every indication is that she just left suddenly and took off.
Alex knows this is not true and when she meets up with the family her sister was living with and the job where worked until her sudden
and unexplained disappearance, Alex knows something is very wrong with the picture and begins looking into her sister's last days that are accounted for.
The story takes off and the intrigue just builds and builds. Nothing and no one is who or what they really seem to be and Alex
is drawn more deeply into the mystery of her sister's sudden disappearance and begins to fear foul play.
Great character development and a plot that offers twists and turns at every bend in the road.
Just an all-around really, really good, spell binding story for those who like the "what happened to....:" plot lines.

Review of Uncorrected eBook File

As young children, Alex and Maddie Walker were often mistaken for twins; Maddie was always quick to correct folks, letting them know she was a year older than Alex. But Alex treasured the idea of them being twins . . . two halves of a whole.

But Dad left, Mom died, and Alex and Maddie aren’t speaking to each other. And when Maddie misses her birthday . . . something she’d promised long ago that she would NEVER do . . . Alex is sure something is wrong and goes in search of her sister.

Heading for the Hamptons, Alex searches for Maddie at The Lobster Shack and learns that her sister has not shown up for work for several days.

What happened to Maddie? And can Alex find her before something even more terrible occurs?

=========

Told from several points of view, the overarching mystery of what happened to Maddie pulls the story together as a variety of viewpoints yield clues to long-held secrets. The plot twists and turns as lies and deceit join the secrets to keep readers guessing. Unpredictable and intriguing, readers are pulled into the telling of the tale from the outset.

With well-developed characters . . . several of whom are truly unlikable . . . and a strong sense of place, the unfolding story moves quickly thanks, in part, to short chapters. Flashbacks fill in the backstory and help give the characters depth.

Readers who enjoy mysteries, stories focused on family and relationships, and stories filled with dark secrets will find much to appreciate in this quick-read, compelling tale.

Highly recommended.

This is a story about a girl who goes searching for her missing sister and ends up staying in the guest house of the family her sister had been staying with while she searches for her.

I did enjoy the mystery of figuring out what happened to her sister. There was so much going on and so many people that were acting suspicious. In fact, it felt like all of the characters had a dark side. There were definitely some twists that I did not see coming.

This story involves so many points of views and I think that is one of the reasons I struggled to fully connect to the story. I think there is more suspense when we only get one person’s point of view and then maybe get other points of view later to explain what happened. It just felt like there was too much filler and not enough suspense.

Overall, I think this was a good story, but it didn’t have the ‘edge of my seat’ suspense I was expecting.

This book was such a quick read for me. I loved every single part of this book from start to finish. I loved that our author wrote this backdrop of the book in The Hampton and Cape Cod…perfect setting for this story. I loved how this book is told in multiple POV and it was very easy to follow without confusion. The characters were well developed and the story/plot was very well developed.

This book filled with mystery, twists and turns that will keep you guessing all the way until the very last page. I will absolutely recommend this book to my fellow book besties and anybody else who loves a good thrilling mystery. You will not be disappointed.

This was such a good book that captures your interest from the first page. The main character Alex hasn't heard from her sister in a few months due to an argument, but when she missed Alex's birthday she knows something isn't right. Alex sets out to find out what happened to her sister. Alex goes to the Hamptons, the last place her sister was located, to search for answers. She quickly gets gets sucked into a world of lies, deceit, and suspense! The plot twists started to come rapidly in the middle and while I predicted some of them, a few caught me off guard!

Stephanie DeCarolis is a great writer and she weaves a story that makes you feel like you are in the book with them. I will be looking for more reads from this author for sure!

This is the first book I read by this author, enjoyed it so much that I have already downloaded two more of her books. This story really grabbed me, just had to keep reading to find out what would happen next. Full of suspense and surprising twists. Well written and good character development. Your heart will go out to some of them, while others you will dislike. The Hamptons is the settling. The lives of the rich and powerful, jealously, betrayal, secrets and lies. Two sisters enter the lives of the Blackwell family, at separate times, with the potential of tearing them apart. How far will each member of the family go to protect the sanctuary of their family? Recommend. Received an ARC from netgallery and this is my voluntary, honest review.

Alex's sister - her only remaining family member after their mother passes away - misses her birthday. Although the sisters became estranged after Mom's funeral, Alex nonetheless assumed Maddie would show up for her birthday, as she has always done since they were kids. When she doesn't, Alex decides to travel all the way across the country to the Hamptons where her brilliant sister (she was going to medical school while Alex stayed home to care for their mother) is supposed to be.

Except she isn't and the family whose home she was staying in is harboring a lot of secrets. Alex is convinced something has happened to Maddie and it's up to her to find out what.

I will always love the "must find my missing sister/brother/parent/child/friend" setup in a thriller. While there's no ticking clock in this mystery, there are plenty of red herrings to keep me turning the pages.

Thanks to Netgalley for the arc to review.

This was a good beach read as well as a thriller. While some of the characters were not that likable, they were all well developed. I found myself questioning how this story would end, but didn’t anticipate the plot twist, which always makes for a good book. It is fast paced and hold your attention.

WOW..fast paced book! Well written! I couldn’t wait to get to the ending! This book has everything: sandy beaches in the Hampton; luxurious lifestyles; secrets; lies; sex and rich people behaving badly.

Great character development.. The multiple POV gave insights into the characters and both Maddie’s and Alex’s relationship through past and present chapters. This added depth to their characters. Plus there is an array of fascinating people sprinkled throughout the chapters. Have to say James was a despicable character. Well portrayed.

The short chapters made for a fast and easy read. It was a rollercoaster ride until the end. Lots of twists, turns and bumps. I was surprisingly caught off guard at the ending. This book is going to be a definite hit as a summer read. Kudos to Stephanie DeCarolis for such an outstanding psychological thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for the ARC.

This was my first time reading this author. Stephanie DeCarolis’ new book The Perfect Sister is a suspenseful thriller that takes place in the Hamptons. Alex Walker, the main character, has a fight with her older sister Maddie right after their mother’s funeral. Maddie then leaves her past life behind her and suddenly heads to the Hamptons. Soon after, she comes up missing. After Maddie doesn’t return home for Alex’s birthday and does not respond to any texts or phone calls, Alex starts to worry and heads to the Hamptons to find her. Although the location and scenery is beautiful and breathtaking, the Hamptons is the land of the wealthy and elite. It’s a place where secrets and corruption take place. Alex ends up staying in the Blackwells pool house just like her sister Maddie had before her. This was a story that kept me on edge because I was always wondering if Maddie was still alive. And the connection that Maddie has to the Blackwells came as a complete shock to me. I sure didn’t see that coming! It’s a story about finding family but also learning that having wealth comes at a pretty steep price. I’d like to thank Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for accepting my request to read and NetGalley for the arc. This is a book I’ll recommend to others and I’d be very interested in reading more by this author in the future. I’m giving it a 4 star rating.

I love a good read! It definitely keeps you guessing and the twists are unpredictable. However, the chapters vary between the past and present, which made it a bit harder to make it a quick read. It's a good twisty thriller, but honestly, it's mostly rich people feeling entitled to anything there is out there.

I love a good beach read, and I love a thrilling beach read even more. The setting just screams summer and sunshine, but the story is dark and twisted. I love the characters and the story line! There were a few parts that did not flow well for me, but overall a great book.

Twisty thriller that keeps its secrets until the last few chapters.

Also, beware of rich people! That's not a spoiler as much as general life advice. 😜

This was rich people behaving badly, which is one of my favorite troupes, but it jumped back and forth between flashbacks and characters A LOT. Maybe because it’s an arc that’s not done being edited but it ran together in confusing points. Besides that, it was a fun and twisty thriller. Thank you NetGalley for this preview

Good mystery, well written story. A young woman searching for sister who has gone silent in social media and inability to reach her by phone makes her decide to do her own detecting to find her, and she finds where she had been four days earlier. Thus the mystery unfolds. A wealthy family, a huge estate and rich people values all mix into a page turner to find out where her sister is. Neat tie up at the end, would have liked to know more of all the outcomes for everyone involved in the mystery. I liked the multiple points of view per the chapter headers, boy can people come up with their own conclusions without any facts.. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC for an honest opinion.

A story set on the beaches of the Hamptons is the perfect read for me. A story of a missing sister and a rich family full of secrets made it even better.

Fast paced and full of mystery this was a great read. From the time Alex arrived in the Hamptons, the last place her sister Maddie was seen, we meet a family with questionable values and high self importance that plays a major role in the story.

I have read Stephanie Decarolis' past books and enjoyed them both. This one was no different
