I love Matheson's writing. Its always dark and filled with excellent details for a police procedural. This one has another great "killer" and I was intrigued the entire time. I cannot wait to see what Matheson has for us next. Happy Belated Pub Day!

Thank you @netgalley for my advance copy!

3.5 STARS - I've been a fan of Nadine Matheson's Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley series from day one. From The Jigsaw Man to The Binding Room and now this third installment, Matheson has created a tense police procedural/thriller series that brings readers into the brutal crimes of London and into the personal lives of DI Henley and her team.

In The Kill List, Henley is forced to investigate a cold case from the 1990's after the courts decide to overturn the conviction of a man who was convicted of brutally murdering several people. When rumours start swirling about the team's respected (now deceased) former boss Rhimes' potential corruption of the original case, it becomes even more personal for Henley (who has her own connection to the original crime) and her team.

The story starts off dark (a warning to the squeamish) and there's a lot going on in this story. At times, it felt a bit confusing with the number of characters and old crimes, and readers will have to suspend disbelief with how involved Henley is with this case due to her connection to the old crime. But things come together in this police procedural that has crime, corruption, currying favour and a look into the impact of this kind of job on the personal lives of those who solve violent crimes.

This series is a good pick for fans of Robert Dugoni, Jeffrey Deaver and Karen Slaughter.

3.75 stars - Thank you to HTP for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Like the previous books, this one follows the ins and outs of a serial unaliver investigation and weaves in drama from Henley’s personal life. While managing her marriage as well as being a parent, the tension throughout is high. The books in this series always remind me of an episode of law and order. I will say I was not at all in the mood for a police investigation style thriller when I picked this up and also due to its length (400 pages), I found it difficult to just sit down and get through it even though the storyline and the writing were just as well done as the first 2 books in the series. Overall I think if you’ve read and enjoyed the first two books you’ll like this one too. I liked it slightly more than the second book but slightly less than the first

I just finished "The Kill List," and it's going to be one of my top reads for 2024. The book is a fast-paced mystery that keeps you guessing until the end. It involves the resurgence of a serial killer, allegations of corruption, and a possibly innocent man locked up for a crime he didn't commit. Anjelica Henley and the other detectives on the SCU team have their work cut out for them.

There's a lot going on in the story, but the author did an outstanding job of tying everything together. As a reader, you never lose interest in the main plot: finding out who the real killer is. The characters are remarkably authentic, each grappling with genuine human dilemmas. While the portrayal of the detectives' personal lives is commendable, at times it feels somewhat excessive. That would be my only complaint about this book.

The stage set for the next installment is nothing short of bonkers. It's evident that the author delights in subjecting her characters to intense trials. If you're in the market for a gripping, dark thriller, this book is an absolute add-on to your tbr.

The copy they sent me was not something I wanted to deal with. The file name is visible on every page and the format is very strange. You have to use your fingers to adjust the each page and you can’t fix the font size. I did email NetGalley about the issue and they were quick to respond. All they could do was reach out to the publisher to see if anything could be fixed. The box comes out in two days. So I’ll end up getting the audiobook or something.

I haven’t read the second book in this series but so I feel like I was missing out a bit. This one was fine but no where near as good as the jigsaw man

25 years ago, Inspector Anjelica Henley's 15 year old best friend was murdered by a serial killer. Anjelica found her body and testified in the case to put Andrew Streeter behind bars. Now Streeter has successfully applied for release from prison due to allegations of police corruption however he is murdered before he can be released and other deaths soon follow - with all of the characteristics of the old murders. The killer is still out there and despite a conflict of interest. Anjelica and her team are assigned investigate the cold cases for proof of police corruption and for clues to stop the killer before he strikes another name off of his kill list. #NetGalley #TheKillList

This series and its characters just keeps getting better! It is an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Matheson keeps coming up with dark and gritty crimes that readers can devour.

A page turner that sees DCI Anjelica Henley re-examining a case she worked on in 1994- a case where Andrew was convicted of being a serial killer. Except, was he? This moves back and forth in time to tell the story and does a good job of maintaining the tension. Was there police corruption? It's clear someone has a current kill list, but who? I read the first but not the second book in the series and was fine for having missing that one because Matheson does a good job of catching new readers up. Anjelica is a good character, there's fine atmospherics, and you, like me, might be pleased to find a few surprises. Thanks to the publishers for the arc. A good read for fans of the genre.

This was a good story. 25 years ago Andrew was arrested for the murder of five people. He had a kill list and it was found in his home. Now new evidence shows that something was wrong with the convictions all those years ago and now they’re being overturned. Was he really the killer or was it someone else?

The Kill List is the long awaited third book in the Inspector Anjelica Henley series and it’s just as dark and gritty as the previous two. This time the case Henley and the SCU team deals with is personal because their former boss is accused of being corrupt because a serial killer from 25yrs ago, who’s maintained his innocence, says he has evidence of who the real killer is.

This case really tests Henley in many ways because of her personal history tying her to the case, dealing with her former boss’s accusations and what it could mean for her team, and her ongoing personal struggles. Henley wasn’t the only one affected and her team members had their struggles and doubts as well but there’s something to be said for a team that works well together and the support they offer one another.

Based off how this book ended I can’t wait to see where Inspector Henley’s story goes as well as the other members of her team. @queennads , when can we expect the next book???

I liked it, but just felt like it was missing something. Strong story, great character development, and a good "mystery" but something was off for me. This is personal opinion. I suggest you read the book for yourself!

Twenty-five years ago, Andrew Streeter was arrested by DCI Rhimes and convicted for the brutal murders of five people. Now, his convictions are being overturned as new evidence comes to light indicating the original investigation was corrupt. Rhimes is DI Henley's old boss, making this case personal to her as Rhimes is no longer alive to defend himself. When similar murders start up, Henley must face the truth that Rhimes got it wrong.

THE KILL LIST is the third instalment in the DI Henley series and one that I've been eagerly awaiting. It's fast-paced, graphic, and gory similar to Nadine's previous two books. DI Henley and her team are given the directive from the New Scotland Yard and their higher ups to investigate their old boss and reinvestigate this twenty-five year old case when the original ruling is overturned. This is a case with many twists as DI Henley and her team comb over old evidence and try to put the pieces together. As new murders that have a very similar MO to the old cases start cropping up, DI Henley's team needs to think quicker and get ahead of this killer. I found the investigation to be very intriguing and compelling, making it hard to put down as I strove to put the pieces together before the big reveal.

This story also features a more personal look into DI Henley's home life, as well as her partner's (DC Ramouter). I did find this to slow down the pacing of the story in one sense, but at the same it added a certain context and understanding to both characters. I also think it made them more relatable. There's also a scene with the medical examiner (ME) that made her relatable and added a touch of 'human' to her character as well. I enjoy the dark humour shared between DI Henley and the ME because it shows how they cope with the difficult things they see and the loss that surrounds them. It's also nice to see that DI Henley's team is a close-knit group who care deeply about the well-being of one another and frequently check in with each other.

Can't wait to see what book four will bring!

I truly believe that Nadine’s books are getting better and better each one and I cant wait to see how book 4 continues with the cliff hanger we are left on in this book. Things are getting deeper and wilder and somehow D.I. Henley is still holding on. She has been through so much and I think things are only going to get crazier.

In this 3rd installment of the series, Detective Inspector Anjelica Henley and her squad at the Serial Crimes Unit are tasked with re-investigating the crimes that Andrew Streeter was convicted of 25 years ago. Streeter's conviction is being overturned and there are corruption allegations. Henley's former boss, the late DCI Rhimes, was the arresting officer, and it appears he made some very big mistakes in the investigation. Henley was close with Rhimes, and she also has a personal connection to the Streeter case, placing her under extreme stress. And that's before the killings begin again.

This series just gets better and better. It's gritty, yet emotional, and filled with suspense. There are some dangling threads that I can't wait to unravel in the next book! Thank you to Netgalley and Hanover Square Press for the review copy.

The girl on the cover gives me Sanaa Lathan vibes, which intrigued me more. Oh this was good. I love a good thriller of a murder coming back years later and starting again. Mainly because we rarely see ”justice” like this in real life.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this eARC.

I liked this but wish it gave me a little bit more, wish I would have read the other books in the series before I jumped into this. Not sure if that will change my perspective of the book. This book reminded me of an episode of Criminal Minds. Now I will say the formatting was a little off putting but I've noticed that to be an issue sometimes with eARCs, so I just chucked it up to that.

The Kill List by Nadine Matheson is the third book in the Anjelica Henley crime fiction series. Matheson has once again crafted a complex, twisty crime thriller with excellent police procedural elements. Although this installment isn't as dark as the previous two books, Matheson still delivers a detailed and engrossing story, complete with enough gritty elements to keep the narrative fresh and engaging. It's definitely a page-turner.

One of the standout features of this series is the ongoing character development and the interactions between the main protagonist, Anjelica Henley, her partner Ramouter, and the rest of the team. True to her style, Matheson excels at crafting sharply drawn, believable, and relatable characters. I read a lot of crime fiction, and the Serial Crime Unit is one of my favorite investigative teams in the genre. They are a fun, smart, and engaging cast of characters.

My only critique of The Kill List is the uneven pacing in a few sections. One of Matheson's strengths is her exceptionally detailed narrative and focus on character development. In this novel, however, some of the characters' personal details felt slightly overdone. Despite this, these moments were infrequent, and the story quickly regained its momentum without missing a beat.

The Kill List is a fantastic police procedural crime thriller from an author I’ve eagerly recommended to my friends. The three books in the series are complex, featuring dark and compelling crimes. Matheson's attention to detail adds depth and authenticity to the investigative process, making her books both engaging and thrilling. With ongoing storylines that span the series, I recommend starting with The Jigsaw Man to fully appreciate the narrative's progression. The Kill List sets the stage nicely for the next installment in the series!

Many thanks to NetGalley, Hanover Square Press, and Nadine Matheson for an advance copy of this book to review. All opinions are my own.

I want to thank netgalley for giving me an opportunity to read this book before it's release. Unfortunately I only made it to chapter 10. The story concept was very intriguing, however, I did not like the writing format and layout. There were spaces where it wasn't needed. At first I thought it was spaced like you would a conversation but there were parts where it abruptly stopped and spaced a single word down below and then start back up below that single word causing a massive space from above. Someone might think that's minor but it made it difficult to stay engaged.
