I have read all of James Rollins’ Sigma series and they just continue to get better. I like that I can depend on Rollins’ to deliver an action-packed, well-researched thriller every year where I can revisit the familiar characters of the Sigma team.
Thank you NetGalley and William Morrow for the DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Interesting concept and story. Follows Sigma, connecting previous books. Author’s explanation at the end of what was fact or fiction added to the enjoyment.
I’ve been with James since the beginning I feel like . I think 2002, and have always loved his books. Sigma force novels are reliably entertaining like a summer blockbuster movie. As always this novel like all his sigma novels are steeped in actual history. He does the research but makes it easy enough for someone like me to understand. If you want action, adventure and saving the world definitely read this series.
[4.5 Stars😍] James Rollins is truly a master of his craft, and his latest science fiction/techno-thriller Arkangel is another enthralling and entertaining installment in the Sigma Force series! As always, I walk away from one of his books feeling smarter AND simultaneously slightly scared because of how well he weaves the scientific element with the historical timeline while adding additional fictional details to fill out the story. The result is a thrilling mix of action, intrigue, cutting-edge science, and a history lesson. I'm already waiting for the next release in this series because I am just as invested in the 18th book as I was with the 1st!
+A HUGE thank you to Netgalley, James Rollins, and William Morrow for the ARC of Arkangel! All thoughts in this review are my own.

Solid Sigma Tale. Unlike a certain reviewer who claimed that this was a standalone book, I'm going to tell you right now that you need to read at *least* books 14-17 (ish) before coming into this one in order to fully understand and appreciate it. But once you've read those other books, you're going to want this one anyway... and you *will* appreciate likely the very same things I liked about this book - namely, certain elements of its ending. Which is all I'll say without going into spoiler territory.
Beyond those ending elements, this is a standard-ish globe trotting Sigma Force action/ thriller, emphasis on the action. And yes, it is about as plausible as the Fast and Furious franchise at this point, but you don't come into these kinds of tales wanting or expecting the ultra-realism of say Andy Weir's The Martian. You come into these types of books *wanting* to see the motorcycle vs attack helicopter fights, the desperate and last second escapes from traps of various forms, the ultra close quarters action where blades get left stuck between arm bones... and, yes, with now *two* very well trained war dogs, Tucker and Kane and Marco's scenes damn near steal the show every time they come up, ala the "motorcycle ride with the raptors" from the first Jurassic World movie that Universal's Islands of Adventures' Velocicoaster captures so well with its initial launch. Because *that* is the kind of adrenaline rush you want in a rollercoaster and in a tale like this, and by God James Fucking Rollins is going to give you that in *spades*.
Some people like Hallmarkie romance books. Others like This Is Us level dusty-rooms-every-other-scene dramas. Others like more pure scifi ala the aforementioned Weir or the more scifi based Rollins type action of Jeremy Robinson. Some like their fiction to be ghost chili level damn near erotica spicy, others don't like reading the word "fuck" at all in anything whatsoever. There are all kinds of books for all kinds of readers, in other words, and if you like the type of book that Rollins continues to write, well, you're gonna like this one too.
Very much recommended.
Another gripping addition to the series, this time focusing on the Arctic circle and a lost civilization known for their longevity that involves Sigma on a mission to prevent a global war. The ending sets up the next adventure for the group.
The best thing about the Sigma novels are the possible historical aspects, the non-stop action, the character development and the adventure.
I highlighted so many quotes, so many good parts. I can’t wait to listen to the audiobook as well!
I have read the first 12 books, so I was pleased that I didn’t miss much in the character development, also so happy that Kane played a part in this novel, he is my favorite character.
Thanks to NetGalley and Willam Marrow for the eARC.
I was approved for an advanced copy three days before publication, which put me behind in completing my review. I love the Sigma Force series and tell people about it whenever given the opportunity.
This story hits a little too close to current events as the team heads to Russia. Russian forces are quite aggressive throughout the book.
Valya is highly involved and harries Gray, Monk, Seichan, Kowalski, Tucker and Kane and Marco across Russia.
A lost library is sought. A fabled civilization may not be a fable. There are booby traps. There are lots of explosions and ice.
Events were tense enough I was reduced to praying that my favorite characters would make it out alive.
I liked Arkangel, but it doesn’t top my list of favorite Sigmas force books.
Thanks to Netgalley and William Morrow for the opportunity to read this book.
James Rollins never fails to provide a pulse-pounding, nail-biting adventure. He is at the top of his game with Arkangel, which has nudged The Last Odyssey out of place in my favorite Rollins novels. Here, members of the Sigma Force team face treacherous demons from their past but also race once again to save the world. One of the things that makes Rollins’ novels much more than the usualy action-advenure is his blend of storytelling and meticulous research. Just so, so good.
This is the latest Sigma Force novel and like the other 17 it is a fast paced thriller with lots of violence and mayhem.
A Vatican archivist and others located what they at first thought was the Golden Library, in an underground tunnel in Moscow. He had photographed pages from a book and took the book with him. The man is murdered and the book taken, but he manages to send his photos and a warning, but not to the Vatican contact.
Thus begins a race to find a possibly mythological hidden continent buried in the arctic circle. The Russian Orthodox Church teaming up with the Russians and Sigma Force battling with them to be the first there and to solve the puzzle.
One must suspend belief at what all takes place, but that is what makes this series fun. The good guys are very good and the bad guys are very bad.
It was a fun read.
Thank you William Morrow and NetGalley for the ARC.
Arkangel takes Sigma Force on a search for the legendary land of Hyperborea.
I used to get excited with each new Sigma Force adventure. That seems to have cooled over the years.
The book was not bad. It delivered a good beginning and ending. It was just the middle part that seemed muddled to me. Too much was being thrown at the team. It seemed like they were never going to actually achieve their objective.
I may bow out of next year’s installment.
Another incredible and bombastic entry in the Sigma Force series! This novel explores ancient Greek mythology in the arctic and as always blends history and technology with a fast paced adventure thriller vibe.
Thanks to Netgalley and William Morrow for the pre-release copy of Arkangel by James Rollins. Below is my honest review.
First, if you're reading this review and you haven't read the rest of this series... what are you waiting for? Stop here and go on then! This is book 18, for goodness' sake!
18 books in and this is still one of my favorite series. I've followed it since the release of Map of Bones, and I'll continue to follow up until it ends (which hopefully is a LONG LONG time from now). (PS, in addition to these 18 books, some of the characters that join this series along the way are from his other works, like Subterranean and Deep Fathom, etc)
This one has some WILD stuff: lots of ice, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade style puzzle rooms, carnivorous plants (TERRIFYING), and lots of shootouts and chases and danger.
Highly recommend this series. It's so much fun. You can certainly jump in here if you want, but I'd definitely beseech you to start at the beginning. You'll miss so so so much if you don't.
James Rollins is one of the authors whose new books I can’t wait for. Arkangel the 18th in the Sigma Force series (I have read the first 17) does not disappoint It is a fast paced thriller that mixes history, fact and fiction.
It will entrap you in its plot to find the Golden library and the lost continent of Hyperborea.
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for this very enjoyable ARC.
As a thrilling and successful addition to the Sigma Force series, Arkangel features your typical mix of high-stakes action, historical intrigue, and scientific mysteries that we've come to expect and enjoy. In this tale, Commander Gray Pierce and Sigma Force Team, face off against ancient mysteries and current day dangers as they race to solve a puzzle that stretches back to the time of the early Christian church. The story begins with the discovery of a mysterious artifact that is linked to the Book of Revelation. As Pierce and Team dive deeper into their investigation, they uncover a conspiracy that threatens the very foundation of the Christian faith that could lead to the apocalypse prophesied in the Bible. Their journey takes them across continents, ancient monasteries and hidden caves, to decipher clues that could prevent a global catastrophe. "Arkangel offers a fast-paced narrative filled with suspense and action. This novel explores themes of faith, redemption, and the eternal battle between good and evil, making it a compelling read.
When the pace of Sigma Force books slowed a couple years ago, I somehow got out of the habit of keeping up with the series. Fortunately, Arkangel caught my attention, and I greatly enjoyed catching up with Gray, Seichan, Kowalski, Jason, Tucker and friends, and Monk (not much of Crow in this one). Sigma Force is still globetrotting in their quest to save the free world. This time they end up in the arctic circle which is interesting given the current geopolitical and environmental climates. This was yet another fun read in the Sigma Force series.
I really like these books. They are like reading a mix of a Dan Bown book (but smarter) and an Indiana Jones adventure. I like the conspiracies, the science, and the locations. Would highly recommend
Thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4+ stars
Sigma Force is in Russia searching for information for a lost civilization by the north pole. I don't know how James Rollins can tie all these historical bits together and make such a great story but I am here for it. Great addition to the Sigma series.
Most of my James Rollins books were audiobooks read by the incomparable Scott Brick. I was too eager to read the latest Sigma book so I couldn't wait for the audiobook but I heard Scott Brick's voice in my head the entire time.
James Rollins is at it again! This time the backdrop is far from the sweltering heat of Tides of Fire, in Arkangel Rollins takes us to the Arctic via Russia. As a fan of Rollins and his Sigma series, I was even more excited to get through this book because of the addition of Tucker, Kane & Marco. Follow Sigma operatives through the frozen (or not so frozen) arctic chasing the footsteps of Catherine the Great to safeguard the world from a hidden knowledge (or threat?) that we are just not ready for.
Another whirlwind, heart-pounding Sigma Force novel from James Rollins! Commander Gray Pierce and the gang are back, this time racing to unravel centuries-old mysteries, searching for a golden library of treasures, and uncovering shocking truths about a lost continent. Friends (both two- and four-legged) and foes from prior Sigma Force novels as well as Rollins' Tucker Wayne series are back in action, and fans of both series will enjoy reconnecting with these characters, while also welcoming new faces into the Sigma Force world (and perhaps a goodbye or two...?). I'm already itching to see where Rollins takes the team next!
