⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 Solid Domestic Bone Chilling Stars 🙌🏼

Wow 🤯 just wow !! I went into this book blind and I have been clearly knocked out from this gripping suspense domestic thriller!!

“And then I woke up in that field , looking down at my naked body, assaulted once again by those ugly birds. How many ways, I think , can a girl be assaulted? I never got to live my life . I never got to live to be old enough , to become unattractive enough , to be left alone. To finally just be.”

Read this if you like ;
🪶 Small town murders
🪶 Multiple POV’s
🪶 Slow Burn Thrillers
🪶 Intense reads
🪶 Short Chapters
🪶 Shocking Ending 😮

What Have You Done hooked me right away . It was filled with so many red herrings and when I thought I had it figured out , oh Lapena did a fantastic job of gas lighting the reader , because I was so wrong 😑…and the ending was absolutely perfect and worth the climax I love in a good mystery!!

Diana’s body has been found murdered just outside of town in a farmers field. The town is devastated, Diana was popular, an athlete and a very well liked young lady in the community.

Quickly we learn there is a lot of bad people that have been in Diana’s life and the author does an excellent job of leaving breadcrumbs along the way to keep us fed and wanting more to discover the truth and justice for Diana !! 👀

Diana even makes guest appearances through out the story and comes to the shocking revelation that she has been murdered and nobody can see or hear her but she wants her killer to pay for they’ve done to her . Will she seek revenge? You need to read to find out for yourself what transpires!

If you loved The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold then I know you will love What Have You Done !

Thank you Sooo much NetGalley , Penguin House Canada and Shari Lapena for this amazing digital ARC 🙏

Respectfully Another Read by Angie

I’ve quickly become to depend on Lapena for a captivating mystery where I trust no one and suspect everyone. After not having loved her last one, she’s back at her best with What Have You Done?

Nothing ever happens in sleepy little Fairhill, Vermont.
But this morning all of that will change.
Because Diana Brewer isn't lying safely in her bed where she belongs. Instead she lies in a hayfield, circled by vultures, discovered by a local farmer.
How quickly a girl becomes a ghost. How quickly a town of friendly, familiar faces becomes a town of suspects, a place of fear and paranoia.
Someone in Fairhill did this. Everyone wants answers.

I’m surprised the authors writing style is as praised as it is sometimes. The sentences are short, the vocabulary is simple and sometimes it comes across as choppy; but for me it’s what makes her books so easy to binge. Like her previous works, this one starts with action right on page one and doesn’t stop until the end. There’s a whole cast of characters and while it takes a minute to keep them straight, they all play a very important role. The mystery itself is very scary and realistic and while it is fiction it reminds us to be careful as women, parents, and friends.

There was one point of view that bothered me throughout the book simply due to it being written in first person rather than third like the other ones were. At the end it is kinda explained but i was already too bothered at that point. The ending did seem a little rushed and not everything was explained out enough for my liking but none of this took away from my enjoyment of the book.

This one has a lot of trigger warnings so please check those going in; but if you’re a Sheri Lapena fan, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed by this one.

This one is out July 30th, thanks to netgalley for my advanced copy.

I love Shari Lapena's book. Always excited to see a new one out and even more so to get approved for it.
A lot of people to keep straight however that being said was written in such a way it was easy to follow along. So many who could it have been, great great finish!!!

Thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an early release of this book.

This is my second book by this author that I have read and I enjoyed this thriller of a murder in a small town. It was a super quick read and I finished it in one night.

The premise is straightforward: a beautiful, popular girl is found murdered and the book slowly unfurls various possible suspects and we learn more about what happened. I had an idea of who the killer was and my hunch was right.

The only aspect of the book I wasn’t a fan of was the spirit plot line, especially pertaining to Riley. I didn’t find it that interesting and I don’t think it was necessarily needed.

I will continue to read more of this author’s backlist since I have enjoyed the books I have read so far by them.

Thank you to NetGalley, Shari Lapena and Penguin Random House Canada for an ARC of this book.

First off I have to say that I nearly fainted when I got approved for this ARC book! After discovering her books last year I cannot get enough of her books. When she announced that she will be releasing a new book this year I was ecstatic. I requested this arc on a whim completely convinced I won’t get approved but I did and I feel like I’ve arrived haha!

Ok now about the book, this book is everything you would expect from a Shari Lapena book. It has well built characters, multiple point of views, excellent pacing, misdirect and an ending that will leave your jaw on the floor.

I enjoyed every minute of this world that she created. Even though there are multiple characters and storylines to keep track of but the writing makes it easy to follow. On the surface it is just another murder mystery but if you pay attention you will see that it is more about how girls and women are treated in this society. How people in charge may look the other way to save their own skin and how people who look like open books carry secrets that no one knows.

This is a must read for anyone who loves thrillers!

Thankyou NetGalley and Penguin Random house Canada for sending me this book! Thankyou Shari for being such a genius with words 🤌🏼

I wanna give it 4 stars but I just can’t. I did enjoy the book. I’ll say 3.5 stars.
I liked that it had multiple POV’s. I think it made the story progression go quickly. The short chapters helped too.
What I didn’t like was that it was kinda predictable on who the killer was. There was a few suspects but you could predict it fairly easily. The ghost aspect didn’t nothing for me. I found it strange it was added.
If you want a thriller and an easy read then give it a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

When the vultures expose the body of a teenager's body lying in a field grief and anger come to the small town of Fairhill. While Diana's family and friends grieve her passing, her best friend searches for her killer. Was it really her boyfriend that she had just dumped? Was it random? What about the teacher she had accused of sexual assault? Or was it someone else. This is a dark and tragic tale told by a master storyteller. For those who live or grew up in small towns all too real. Fantastic story and great characters.

Starts with a beautiful young lady that is found dead by a farmer…and the twists don’t even end till the end of the book…Sheri Lapena does not disappoint. A queen of her craft, she writes a quick and twisty book from beginning to end.

Lapena spins gold on the classic who-done-it. Her ever-evolving perspective allows the reader to step into the heads of Diana's friends, family and possible killers, enabling the reader to see all the different kinds of harm that can come to a girl from the people she should be able to trust. Shari Lapena has a gift for writing thrillers that can be gobbled up like candy but leave you thinking about the layers long after you've reached the final page. #PenguinRandomHouse #Netgalley

4.5⭐️ - a round of applause Ms. Lapena. Your books can do no wrong in my eyes. When a girls body is found in the small towns local farm field, her teacher, friends, local men and boyfriend are all investigated for the murder. The weaving of all these shady characters stories and backgrounds of these men took this beyond just your typical who dunnit and brought out the deeper conversation regarding young girls safety, bodies, control and spheres of power. It both kept me going as a thriller but also made me saddened that the world is a scary place for a pretty young girl.
Don’t let this put you off though, it’s wonderfully twisty and reads like your traditional thriller - but those looking for a deeper dive can easily find it here too.

Shari Lapena's novel "What Have You Done" is an outstanding mystery set in the small-town of Fairhill. When the body of Diana Brewer is found murdered on a local farm, the small-town atmosphere becomes tense as multiple suspects emerge. Lapena's storytelling prowess shines in this novel, with meticulously crafted plot twists and well-developed characters that kept me guessing until the very end. The pacing is superb, creating a sense of urgency and suspense that makes it hard to put the book down. I read this one slowly so I could savour it, it was so well written. This is by far one of the best novels by Shari Lapena yet. "What Have You Done" is a gripping tale of small-town murder and suspense that will captivate fans of the genre.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada, Doubleday Canada for the opportunity to read and review " What Have You Done” before its publication date.
