Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book - it is well worth the read! When teenager Diana Brewer's body is found in a farmer's field, many people in her small town come under suspicion and the story gives us all of their perspectives, including the perspective of Diana's ghost. This book is a fast and compulsive must-read! 5 Stars!

They say nothing happens in this little sleepy town in Vermont, but the discovery of Diana Brewer's body changes everything. This book grabbed me right from the beginning. It was the discovery of the local teen's brutal murder.

Told from a number of different points of view, including Diana’s voice from the grave (it was a neat addition). It doesn’t take long to know this is a town full of secrets and many suspects. This was a addictive read, being familiar with Shari Lapena I knew this would be tension filled, intricately written with twists and turns to keep me on my toes. I managed to read it in a couple of days.

What Have You Done? is a story with many layers, it is a story of grief - for Diane’s parents, her friends and a town struggling for closure. It is a story of suspicion with finger pointing and it is a story with many trigger warnings, but alas, to lay them out would be along the lines of a spoiler.

Suffice to say if you are looking for a fast paced, captivating read then grab this one.

My thanks to Random House CA (via Netgalley) for a digital ARC in exchange for a honest review.

What I loved most about this book was that the multiple perspectives were done so well. I found it really easy to differentiate between all the characters and follow their story. I loved how each character gave you a different perspective about what was going on, and it had me guessing who was the suspect up until the very last moment.

This is a domestic suspense/murder mystery set in a small town in Vermont.

At the beginning of this crime novel teenager Diana is found dead. We are then presented with several suspects. I found this to be an interesting way to tell the story as anyone of them could have been guilty. Also each one of them tells lies and it was super fun to find out their secrets.

The book is not graphic. However at least two of the suspects are so creepy.

This book is a quick compelling read that features multiple POVs, including some from the deceased teen. I was not too surprised with the guilty party, but still really enjoyed this book. The last lines were really good. This is definitely a good summer thriller.

This was one of my favorite books from Shari! It kept me hooked and every time I thought I had it figured it out, she let me know I didn’t 😂 I loved the ending! Can’t wait for her next book.

I am beyond excited every time Lapena releases a new book, but I'm also sad when I finish each one because I have to wait for the next.

In true Lapena fashion, I couldn't put this one down and flew through it.

I loved the multiple POVs, I had so many suspicions on who it would be but honestly was surprised in the end.

Thanks to NetGalley & Penguin Random House Canada for an advance copy!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! I'm not a big mystery reader, but this held my attention even though I was pretty sure I knew whodunit. I like that the multiple perspectives were written distinctly enough that it was usually clear whose perspective it was and I appreciate that the gore was very limited.

I hate to say this but I just finished this book and am quite disappointed.

I am generally a big Shari Lapena fan - her thrillers tend to be interesting, have good pace, and I like her characters. I was super excited when I got approved for an ARC on NetGalley for her latest book!

I jumped in right away, super excited.

The story takes place in a small town in Vermont, where “nothing ever happens”. Our MC is Diana Brewer, a popular young teen who we find dead at the very start of the book. The story works backwards as the police try to find out how she died and who her murderer was. We meet Diana’s family, her best friends, her teachers, and all the people around her who could be a suspect.

There’s reason to believe it could be anyone from their town, and as we meet different characters we learn about their inner struggles, their relationships with each other, and what makes them tick.

Some characters I loved, and some I truly hated.

The story itself had a lot of potential, and I was interested as I read… but I found myself waiting for that moment I would be ALL IN. Or that character that would really wow me. Unfortunately it never came.

The ending to me felt like a flop - not overly interesting or exciting. I feel like.. it ended and I wanted a better more detailed more unexpected ending.

All in all, although this isn’t one I would recommend, I do like Shari Lapena and I’m sure I’ll keep reading her books as she publishes more.

2 ⭐️⭐️ for me on this one.

The body of Diana is found in a farmers field in a small sleepy town. As the town turns upside down in the wake of her death, her best friends Riley and Evan are determined to take matters into their own hands as they feel the police aren't looking for answers fast enough.

Shari Lapel is quite literally the queen of one sitting thrillers, as always I was completely unable to put this book down until I turned the last page and had all the answers I needed.

I will say that this books wraps up in a perfect bow at the end, the only thing preventing me from giving it a 5 star was that I was able to predict the entire book right from the first few chapters, I was hoping id be wrong but was still equally satisfied that I managed to get it correct.

If you’re a big mystery thriller reader like me, then you might have guessed who the culprit was early on. However, knowing who did it didn’t diminish the experience for me.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 is one of those books where you feel like "𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘴," making you wish the world were a better place.

Despite the large cast of characters in this small-town thriller, I never had trouble remembering or identifying them, thanks to their distinct personalities.

This was my first Shari Lapena book, so I don’t have a comparison for her previous works. This book has a great set of unreliable narrators, but felt a bit like a YA thriller to me. The intensity was a bit too laid-back for my taste. But I have to say, I was satisfied with how everything wrapped up.

Overall, it was a pleasant and easy read. I’m definitely curious to dive into her other books soon.

P.S. The book’s themes, especially the posthumous narration, made me think of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘉𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴.

Fans of Shari Lapena will not be disappointed by yet another twisty story from her.

I really enjoyed the way the title line "What have you done?" is repeated multiple times across storylines as suspicion is cast in many different directions after the murder of a high school girl in a small town. The way the different points of view wove together kept my attention and kept me guessing.

Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for the chance to read a digital ARC before publication!

The book's multiple POVs were executed really well. I love the "oh so you think you know who did it, eh?" type of writing where just when you think you're closing in on someone as the suspect, someone else steals the limelight.

10/10 read, it's my first book from Shari Lapena but I now see why Indigo made her the August AOTM!

In a small town where people do not lock their doors Diane, a popular, smart, athletic teenager is found in a farmer’s field naked and strangled. The novel’s chapters are from the prospective of friends, teachers, parents, suspects and the ghost of Diane. I enjoyed the ghost of Diane’s chapters however another ghost plot line didn’t seem to serve a purpose.

The short chapters made for a quick read and different fonts made it easy to identify several narrators as there were a lot of characters in this novel. Very strong red herrings for many suspects and I had the real murderer figured out very early on.

My thanks to Shari Lapena, Doubleday Canada, Penguin Random House Canada and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC, in exchange for this honest review.

What Have You Done? is the most recent thriller by Canadian thriller author, Shari Lapena. The book opens with the discovery of the dead body of a popular small town girl. The story follows the various people in Diana's life as the police try and figure out who her killer is. So many people have been lying but which one of them has told the biggest lie of them all? I binged this story in 2 days and really enjoyed trying to figure it out. I didn't see the twist coming and to be honest, the twist is why I have not given this book 5 stars. It was a bit out of left field when we had so many other characters to work with.

Once again Shari Lapena surprises us!

I was looking forward reading Lapena latest novel and I was delighted with it.
Set in a quiet small town in Vermont, the story is centered around Diana, a teenager who was murdered.
The school personnel and her friends are the main characters.
The story is well paced and I enjoyed when the deceased,Diana, comments from her « bubble » even though I’m not into science fiction/ghosts stories.

My only con: would have liked to know how some of the characters lives unfolded in the end

Don’t be fooled by the obvious suspects;wait for the story to unfold and you will be surprised to discover Diana’s murderer!

So many secrets for such a small town.I could not put the book down since I wanted to know the full story, so I did sacrificed a few hours of sleep and it was well worth it.
On your marks, get set , start reading Lapena latest book-you won’t regret it!

This was exactly what I expect from this author. I love her writing and how she can keep me guessing. Was not at all disappointed with this new book.

2.5 stars for this one.

I found the book less suspenseful than I anticipated. The third-person narration, with its multiple perspectives, occasionally made the story difficult to follow. Many of the characters didn't resonate with me, and the plot twist was predictable from early on. Overall, the story felt forgettable, and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I had hoped.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the opportunity to read this E-ARC in exhange for my honest review.

What can't Shari Lapena do? I swear, every single Shari Lapena book I read I am hooked from start to finish. I remember the first one of hers I read, the Couple Next Door was thrilling from start to the very last page. I love Lapena's writing so much and have a blast with her books every time.

Shari Lapena is an auto read author for me and I couldn't wait to read her latest, What Have You Done? released on July 30th, 2024.

Set in a small town in Vermont, the story begins with the grim discovery of a teenager girl, Diana Brewer, found dead in a local farmer's field. I enjoyed the multiple points of view and felt that it added to the story. I could have done without the paranormal aspect though as I don't feel it truly added to the story.

Although I was able to predict who had done it, I didn't feel that it took anything away from the story. However, as others have also mentioned a trend with lots of newly released thrillers is that the endings feel rushed compared to the build up. I can't wait for more from Shari in the future!

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
