I’ll keep it short as overall this book wasn’t for me. A couple reasons for this are as follows: the characters felt one dimensional and unrealistic, the dialogue was a bit unnatural, especially whenever Irena was speaking, and I found in both Robbie and Vanessa’s storyline there was a lot of repetition rather than development of certain ideas and information (the jeers in the prison and the speaking to Jack being some examples). The plot was fine but I couldn’t enjoy as much because of a few of the technical writing aspects as mentioned earlier, they just frustrated me too much.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC, I still appreciated reading it even though I ultimately didn’t love it.
The story was not what I was expecting based on the title. I found the story a bit hard to follow. Most of the characters were pretty solid except for the woman who "died". I found the plot lacking and a bit predictable. In all honesty, I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted to but I would still read this author again.
Super easy read, with nice and short chapters which made it even easier to read! I really enjoyed this, although the ending was slightly too chaotic for me.
Jane Corry skillfully weaves together several sub-plots to add depth to the seemingly simple scenario laid out in the first few paragraphs. A well crafted story with lots of twists and turns. Relatable characters draw the reader in. A very good read!
What amazing book!! The characters are amazing the plot is unique . You will never find out ! I strongly recommend this book .
I really enjoyed reading I Died on a Tuesday by Jane Corry.
A well written book that was told by many different characters. A plot that had many twists and turns throughout that kept me reading trying to figure things out as I continued reading. Lies, deception and truths that need to be told. I didn’t like the way the book ended as I felt that it was kind of muddled and was as if the author needed to add more into the book just trying to finish it off.
A hit and run cold case, an arrest made 20 plus years later, a witness support person to help support the hit n run victim, a greedy young man who shows up with claims of who he is. So many lies and deceptions, truths that need to be told.
I would recommend this book for a quick easy read. It has some very short chapters. Thank you NetGalley, author Jane Corry and Penguin Random House for a copy of this ebook.
Thank you Netgally for an ARC of this book.
A terrible hit and run has gone unsolved for years.. until now. This story follows many different POVs and is a very easy read. It grabbed my attention from the first few pages and kept me hooked. The writing style was interesting and straight to the point which I enjoyed for the plot, nothing felt dragged out.
However, the writing style made some of the dialogue unbelievable. Following, the courtroom scenes did not feel like how a real courtroom operates. The ending was a little busy, there were many loose ends to be tied up. Although I do appreciate I was not left with any questions. Overall 4/5 stars!
The story starts with a young girl and a hit-run. The individual stories were well written to tell each character’s story in the first 2/3 of book. End was a bit muddled for me. But still a good, fast read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the advanced copy. I received a complimentary copy of this book.
I would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have read one book before this one by the author and enjoyed it, but unfortunately I cannot say the same for this one. I wasn't able to get into it at all.
This book has an interesting title, description, and concept that made me want to read it, and I feel like it delivered in several important ways. I enjoyed reading the unfolding story in flashbacks and from different perspectives of the various main characters. It was a big task to have so many important characters who really contributed to the outcome of the story, and have them all connected in some way, and it was a little bit farfetched, but still interesting to see how the connections unfolded. I appreciated the flashbacks and slow reveal of what actually happened the day of the accident. I do feel this story could be the start of a discussion about the ethical / moral decisions made by each of the characters. Why did they make the choices they did? How could they have changed their life and the lives of others with one small choice? What did they gain or lose through their choices? Which characters did you connect with or feel sympathy / empathy for? Who made you mad? Did they "deserve" what happened? Was it a happy ending? I would enjoy discussions with upper middle or high school age students about the various issues in the book. Overall there were some moments or events that were a little bit farfetched or unlikely to happen in the "real world" but it made for an interesting story and kept my interest. There were a lot of characters who were really all main characters and that probably made it difficult to fully develop, and I can see how some people might not have connected with a character, but each of them had interesting experiences and revealed their lives over the course of the book and that kept my interest.
I read a pre-release copy of this book for an honest review from NetGalley.
I enjoyed following along with each character, wondering if somehow they would merge together. I loved that by the end you learned of each character’s flaws. At times it felt that the book was long but I felt it all ended up being worth it. An excellent story!
The premise of the book is what intrigued me and I was expecting a gripping thriller that had me turning the pages. Unfortunately, that is not what I got. I really wanted to enjoy it but it ended up being something different than I expected. I found this book to be really slow and dry. The chapters were super short and the timeline bounces around which could be appealing to others but did not work for me. It lacked engagement for me and I couldn’t feel any connection to the characters.
Thanks to the publishers, Netgalley and Jane Corry for the ARC. I had to DNF this book because the writing felt juvenile & I knew that I wouldn't enjoy it after reading the first 5%.
2⭐️
I had this on my wish list as Chapters and then I discovered the ARC on NetGalley and requested it and I was so happy to be approved! The description of the book hooked me. But what a disappointment.
I lost track of how many times I rolled my eyes. There were so many unbelievable parts and so much naivety with a couple of the characters that it was sometimes a struggle to read. The writing was also very simplistic and not engaging.
Some of my issues with this book:
-The behaviours of characters in this book changes so fast that it’s like watching one of my BPD episodes.
-The prison scenes are unbelievable. I understand that it was a hit and run of a young girl, and people are understandably upset, but the level of hate is excessive and usually reserved for the worst of the worst.
-Vanessa is delusional and gullible.
-Why is the DEFENCE barrister questioning him like she’s the prosecutor? Because there was ZERO indication that the defence was done with their questioning. I re-read it three times just to make sure.
I will admit that I kept turning the pages because there were little mysteries and chapter cliffhangers and I really did want to know what was going on.
One part did get to me though. My heart broke for Big Jim 😢 (you’ll understand when you get there).
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
While it was a little rough getting used to the layout of the book, the plot was really interesting and easy to follow. While some things were predictable, there were things that still surprised me! Overall, a very solid 3/5.
They always say there's two sides to a story but not really. In I Died on a Tuesday, there's three sides! After a terrible accident, we learn the different perspectives of those involved. Lot's of twists and turns that kept me hooked!
I received I Died on a Tuesday as an ARC from NetGalley. I really enjoyed reading this book. The twists and turns kept me on edge. I read another review that mentioned how busy the last third of the book is. I absolutely agree. More secrets seem to come from nowhere while the author tries to wrap everything up. Regardless I did enjoy reading this book and it kept me engaged.
One tragedy is told from 3 viewpoints. While this story can be a bit dark at times overall it is a good read that keeps your wanting more.
This book had a unique premise, but it wandered in too many directions that felt unsatisfying. I didn’t connect with any of the characters, and I felt the Judge storyline was entirely unnecessary. This seemed like it was going to be an intriguing story, but overall it was not what I had hoped.
This was not as engrossing as I had hoped. I found myself bored with the characters and the plot itself at times. As a mood reader, this could very much be a "me" problem but the pacing just felt a little too placid.
