I loved this, it was stinkin' adorable.

An ode to geeks everywhere.

Once again, I didn't realise I was reading a sequel, but as a bonus I actually read the first book a couple years back so it was an extra delight! I'd forgotten these characters, to be honest, but when I put it together it added extra fun.

Here's the plot: Jude is a Nerd (aaaaand I'm already sold) who loves to play D&D and draw comics (sold again). He stumbles on a D20 that somehow gives him unstoppable luck, and suddenly he's copping a wave of miracle occurrences. Which helps, because there's this girl he really likes ...

What I really loved most here was the way the characters were done. Maya in particular was a lot of fun, and I appreciated her development a lot. There were nowhere near as many cringe moments as I expected from a YA novel with this kind of plot - that's Marissa Meyer for you! Great characters and it's hard not to root for all of them.

There's several different elements to the story - nerd culture, music, fame, fortune, popularity etc - but it ties together effortlessly and flows nicely. I loved how many facets the characters had, and it was fun to see them exploring these things.

Also, as someone who has JUST done their first ever D&D session, it was bundles of fun listening to those references. Even my partner was giggling at some of the references, despite 'not listening'. XD

This book is wholesome, nerdy fun, and I enjoyed it immensely. The audio added a lot of fun, too, with roleplaying enhanced by music and sound effects.

A delightful, nerd adventure with a soft heart, this will have you cheering for everyone all at the same time. Even EZ won me over by the end.

Highly recommend this for nerds of all types, romance lovers, and people looking for a good bit of teenage fluff to waste a few hours with. I listened to the whole thing in a day and it was fantastic.

With thanks to Netgalley for an audio ARC

Marissa Meyer's YA romcom takes readers on a delightful journey through the highs and lows of teenage life, sprinkled with a touch of magic and plenty of Dungeons & Dragons references. In the charming tale “With a Little Luck”, protagonist Jude finds himself unexpectedly blessed with supernatural luck after stumbling upon a mysterious twenty-sided dice.

At first, Jude revels in his newfound luck, achieving everything he's ever dreamed of with seemingly effortless ease. From having his art accepted to his favorite fanzine to winning coveted concert tickets and even landing a date with his long-time crush, Jude's life takes a turn for the extraordinary. However, when he loses the magic dice at a local music festival, his luck takes a downward spiral, forcing him to confront buried emotions and navigate the complexities of love and friendship. One of the highlights of the book is its authentic portrayal of teenage life, complete with relatable characters and genuine teenage angst. The camaraderie between Jude and his friends, along with his close-knit family dynamic, adds depth and warmth to the story. Meyer gives a glimpse of the challenges and insecurities of adolescence, while also infusing the narrative with moments of humor and heart.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Bolinda Audio, and the editorial team for giving me the opportunity to review the ARC in audiobook format and to you, my reader, for taking the time to read this honest personal book review.

I had a good time following Jude on his lucky spree and his not-so-lucky spree. This was a sweet story of love and teenage angst, full of nerds (my people) and the difficulties of school life. It definitely reminds me why I don’t miss those days! Jude has a great group of friends and a charmingly close-knit family, with his and Prue’s best friend, Ari, considered one of them. Other than a couple of nasty kids at school from Maya’s clique, this book is good vibes all round. Jude learns to believe in himself and accept himself as he is, which is never a difficult journey, but is always the goal! He also gives Maya the opportunity to be herself and discover her passions and I was totally rooting for that girl to live her authentic life. All in all a cute book!

⭐⭐⭐⭐
With a Little Luck by Marissa Meyer, an audiobook narrated by Stacy Carolan was sweet and entertaining! Stacy Carolan did good narration but from time to time it felt a bit flat and started to drift away. I think a bit more passion and intonation would be just perfect! What I really loved about this audiobook was the parts where Jude was creating his comic as there were sound effects and a completely different atmosphere!
The storyline has a deep meaning! This is such a good book for young adults who are just finding their spot in their lives!
I loved how situations were explored from different angles to give the reader a taste of a little bit of everything!

Jude was living his ordinary life up to the moment he found a mysterious twenty-sided dice. From that moment all the things work in his favor! Jude is OBSESSED with Maya, a girl he has never really spoken to so it's time to explore will his luck work around. Jude's best friend Ari loves music and Jude is terminated to use his luck to help Ari as well. Everything felt so perfect up to the moment he lost his dice!
How to live now? How to be responsible for everything that previously happened so effortlessly?

Thank you to Bolinda Audio and Netgalley for the copy of this audiobook!

Jude was content to draw comics, host D&D night with his friends, work at his parents' vinyl record store and finish high school unscathed. That is, until the night he found himself inexplicably gifted with a bout of supernatural good luck.

Suddenly, everything Jude had ever wanted was within reach. His art was being published. His best friend Ari's song became a finalist in a songwriting competition after he helped her with it. He even won a pair of concert tickets which he used to ask out Maya, the popular girl he'd been crushing on for years.

It didn't last forever though, as things took a turn for the worse at some point. He had to wonder if he was even worthy of the luck he'd stumbled upon, and whether things that seemed to be what he coveted were actually not. Ari invaded his thoughts as well, and the question of whether he could risk their friendship for a chance at more.

I enjoyed this story, made even better by a fantastic audiobook. It was so immersive. I especially loved the sound effects used when Jude and Co had Dungeons and Dragons night. I'm not a D&D enthusiast but I enjoyed all the adventures in the land of make believe.

This was absolutely adorable. Lucky streak is giving chosen one vibes, with a geeky twist. Friends to lovers, light and easy to read.

Enjoyable listen but I would have preferred younger sounding narrators as an adult voice for a teen perspective felt a bit odd in places.

Otherwise, quick and delightful listen.

I have to tell you to start with, Marissa Meyer is my favourite story teller and author for YA. Her name on the cover page means I’m buying it, and reading it no matter what!

So, when I say I have been waiting for this book for so long! It’s not an exaggeration!

Jude’s story needed to be told, and I’m so happy it’s finally here.

Reliving this beautiful family and their world was a happy place for me. Seeing all the names and people I fell in love with in Instant Karma was heart warming.

It’s Hilarious! Making me laugh out loud! And such a wonderful story too! I love how the main character (Jude ), breaks the fourth wall from time to time. It really brought me into the story. Like I was there next to him.

I’m giving it a big round Four Stars all the way!!!

I was a bit unsure about reading a teen romance as I’m in my 30’s now but I’m so glad I picked this one up! This one was absolutely adorable, and so nostalgic. The perfect book for teens whether they’re dating for the first time, or maybe they don’t quite fit in to the standards set for them. This was a truly heartwarming story, and I would be beyond happy for my preteen daughter to read this one!

I am so pleasantly surprised by this! I caught myself looking forward to listening to this multiple times. I felt like the story was how a YA book should be. I understand some people found it too YA but it is what I expected going into it. Might not be my favorite book ever, but I thoroughly enjoyed my listening experience.

Thanks you Netgalley and Bolinda Audio for sending me this ARC in return for an honest review ! ✨

Jude is determined to fly under the radar. He just wants to draw his comics, host regular D&D night with his friends, work at his parents’ vinyl record store, and escape high school as unscathed as possible. That is, until the night he comes across a mysterious twenty-sided dice and finds himself inexplicably gifted with a bout of supernatural good luck.

Suddenly, everything Jude has ever wanted is within reach. His first art submission is accepted to his favorite fanzine. He helps his friend’s song become a finalist in a songwriting competition. And he’s the 100th caller to a local radio contest, winning him a pair of coveted concert tickets, which he uses to ask out the popular girl he’s been crushing on since elementary school. For a few blissful weeks, he feels invincible.

But when he loses the magic dice at a local music festival, his luck takes a turn for the worse. He struggles to reclaim his good fortune while fighting off long-buried feelings for his best friend―who is definitely not the girl he’s supposed to be in love with. Can Jude risk stepping into the spotlight long enough to win the true girl of his dreams? Or is he doomed to be unlucky in love forever?

My Opinion

I was a bit lost looking for a book to read and the cover for this really appealed to me. I haven't read the first book in this series but I was easily able to follow the plot. This is a fun YA novel that is so easy to read. With a slow plot this book will appeal to many. For me, this was a predictable book but it still made for a great distraction.

Not usually a audiobook person, but I couldn’t pass this one up! So excited to see what Marissa Meyers next project is about! Loved her writing for many years! I cannot wait to share my full thoughts and review with this space very soon! I apologize I’m slowly catching up due to an unexpected family emergency, but it looks like I’m in for a real treat with this one!

As a 45 year old mother of 3 I’m definitely not the demographic this novel is targeted at. However, I absolutely adored it. Pure escapism, sweet, innocent, funny and romantic.

I loved Jude, I’m going to say he’s a geek but I mean it in the best possible way, a lovely kid who plays dungeons and dragons, works in his parents record store and looks after his siblings without fuss - I need a Jude type child! Jude’s an artist too, a great friend, yet he lacks self esteem. Until he finds a lucky dice, magic begins and everything goes right for Jude, he couldn’t be more lucky. But is it really the magic of the dice?!

Lovely! The narration was excellent and I was lost in a little world of fantasy for a while.

All the stars. 🌟 #Jorecommends
