This story does a beautiful job of distilling complex global issues of bigotry, immigration, free speech, and social responsibility. When the protagonist's brother is hospitalized after a racial attack, she and the readers confront the ugly side of humanity but also its resilience. The likable and authentic teen voice and perspective keep this book feeling relevant and contemporary, and never preachy despite the subject matter
