Twisty and diabolical, this story has it all. I didn’t see the twists coming and it kept me on the edge of my seat. This is my second novel by this author and I will continue to read more. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I just finished reading "The Godchild" by Miranda Rijks, and it was a really exciting book! The story kept me hooked with its mystery and surprises.

The characters in the book are interesting, and I liked how their secrets and reasons for doing things were revealed bit by bit. The main character's journey was cool, and the way they dealt with other people was interesting.

The story's pace was good, making it easy to read without getting bored. There were lots of surprises that I didn't see coming, and that made it more fun. I always wanted to know what would happen next.

The places in the book were described in a way that made me feel like I was there. Whether it was a mysterious location or characters talking to each other, I could imagine it all in my head.

When I say I was hooked on this book, I'm not lying! I usually like a little more violence and darkness in my thrillers but this had such a good plot and addictive characters.

I wanted to know what was going on so bad! And did I see it coming? Nope! Brilliantly executed.

Highly recommend this for a popcorn thrillery good time!

"They were just a normal family living normal lives. Then Alicia arrived."

This is a fast paced and fun thriller. I was so sure I knew where the story was going but then it took a totally different narrative. This was a page turner, I truly couldn’t put it down and read it in one day.

The family in this book is messed up in every kind of way but I had a soft spot for Teagan, I felt sorry for her and how badly she was treated by the people around her.

The addictive plot had me going through the pages in no time, so many unlikeable characters and family drama, just how I like it. The ending was one I didn’t see coming, it was as dramatic as the family in this book and I was absolutely here for it!

Thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for a digital ARC copy.

Name of Book: The Godchild
Author: Miranda Rijks
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Publisher: Inkubator Books
Pub Date: March 31, 2024
My Rating: 4.5 rounded up

Carina Ruff, her husband Don, and their children, teenagers Tegan, Arthur and baby Ethan, have just sat down to dinner when someone is at the door.
It is Alicia Watts, Carina’s seventeen-year Godchild that she hasn’t seen since she was a baby and she needs a place to stay.
Carina and Gina -Alicia’s mother, were classmates and friends but haven’t spoken in years.

Alicia says she was living in Spain with her mother who has once again done one of her many disappearing acts and Alicia hasn’t heard from her in weeks and didn’t know where else to turn.
Carina figures she could stay while they try to find Gina. Alicia is willing to help around the house. Everyone loves her but sixteen year old Tegan, is bent out of shape as she has to share her room with Alice a stranger.
Alicia like her mother has a way of worming her way into people liking and accepting her

I am one of those psycho thriller fans and Yes Miranda Rijks once again messes with my emotions even though
I know to expect the unexpected!
Yikes that Epilogue!!! After reading it I went back and reread the prologue which, of course, now I understand.

I always love reading the Author’s note and/or Acknowledgements.
In “A Letter From Miranda” she tells us her thought in writing this story.
She talks about the role of a godparent and how most of us really don’t give forethought as to what that mean and how easy it is for friendship to drift and we really never get to know our godchild or god children.
I have to admit when I saw this title the first thing I thought of – Where are ‘my godchildren’ and how are they today?

This is my sixth Miranda Rijks thriller. When I read my first book " The Second Wife", I knew then I found a new fav author!
She is such a clever storyteller! I will read anything she writes!

Want to thank NetGalley and Inkubator Books for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Da is March 31, 2024/.

WOW! When I first started to read this book, i thought how could you just take a kids word that they are your god child? and then to let her almost replace your daughter, The ending was very shocking , never seen that coming at all. This book was very well written, had alot of twist to it. hope we get the end read from this author.

Miranda you are a genius. This woman had the best talent and her books are just brilliant.

This book was read in 24 hours, that's how much I loved it, again that twist at the end - just yes!!

As usual Miranda draws you in with a belter of a prologue and keeps you invested for the whole book.

Can I wait for the next book? No absolutely not.

I really thought I had this figured out, nope! A normal family living a normal life until a stranger. Alicia, shows up at the door saying she is the daughter of a college friend. The family’s life turns into turmoil and tragedy. Who is this stranger & what does she want & why? thought I had it figured out and bam I was wrong! I was pleasantly happy with how this book pulled me in & kept me engaged until the very end!

I will start my review by saying that my favorite genre of books are thrillers so The Godchild fit right into my wheelhouse. Ms. Rijks delivered the suspense keeping me guessing the whole way through. I finished this book in 2 days because the story kept me completely invested in the characters. The character that really had me captivated was the teenage daughter Tegan. The way that Ms. Rijks could capture teenage angst, bullying and drama had me feeling such a range of emotions.

I'm going to give this book a solid 4 star review for great character development, plot line and maintaining the suspense throughout the whole story.

A huge thank you to inkubator books, Miranda Rijks and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This book is set to be released on March 31, 2024.

The Godchild by Miranda Rijks is exactly what I needed to pull me out of a reading slump. This one is completely addictive, and the twists and turns kept me on my toes from beginning to end.

Carina is shocked one evening to open the door to her godchild, Alicia, the daughter of her old school friend, Gina. When Alicia tells Carina about her unconventional upbringing and Gina's drug use, Carina's maternal instincts kick in, and she knows that she must do whatever she can to help the troubled young woman, who seems pathetically grateful to have a hot meal and a roof over her head. But as Alicia infiltrates herself into family life, the quiet order of things begins to spiral into chaos. Has this young woman appeared with an unspoken agenda, and why is teenage daughter Tegan the only one who really sees her for who she is?

This is a gripping narrative that had me flying through the pages. You cannot go wrong with a Miranda Rijks book, and this latest is no exception.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Inkubator books for an ARC.

This was a fast-paced popcorn thriller that kept me engaged from beginning to end. I binged it in one evening.
The characters were frustrating and unlikable, and at times, I wanted to yell at them. How could they be so darn gullible! 😂
Teagan was the one I did feel for. No one listened to her.
The lesson in this book is a reminder that we all have regrets we wish we could change.

Miranda makes a fantastic use of the prologue and epilogue, setting up the scene and then tying things up nicely with a twist.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone.

Thank you to netgally, incubator books, and the author. My review was voluntary.

“They were just a normal family living normal lives. Then Alicia arrived.”

Miranda Rijks does it again with this fast paced thriller. The Godchild grabbed me from the very first chapter and I could not put it down. I thought I had it all figured out, and then Miranda would throw in these jaw dropping twists and turns. This one is full of family drama, and characters that you just love to hate. I would love to see this book turned into a Lifetime movie because that's what it reminded me of.

Carina, Don, and their three kids are enjoying dinner when Alicia shows up on their doorstep. She claims to be Carina’s goddaughter. She and Gina have lost touch after university. Alicia is invited to stay which turns out to be the worse decision! This is an easy and somewhat predictable read.

Woah!!! This was so not what I was expecting!
Ok, I had no expectations as I went in blind. I have read enough of Miranda Rijks’s books to know what to expect. But this definitely exceeded my expectations.
Lately she’s been hit and miss for me. This definitely was a hit and set her back on track for me. This is exactly the kind of story that I am eating up!
This has enough drama and toxicity for days. I have a weak spot for this. I won’t go in bro detail so I won’t spoil anything, but this was, as said, now what I expected.

This book had everything I wanted. I loved every second of it. Was it far fetched? Yes, but I didn’t mind at all. It was an excellent read!

I am always happy to have a character with my name, we are so rare in books. Even if she was a total bitch. Loved it 🤩
