If this isn't the most perfect 2023/2024 Thanksgiving/Black Friday dystopian read, I don't know what is. The timing of this book's publication is on point. The cultural messages portrayed in the book is on point. It's just the perfect book. I just so happened to listen to the audiobook on Thanksgiving while I cooked.
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this book. This is a quick, fun read with lots of action and adventure. It mixes the reality of customer service with a side of demon, impeding apocalypse, all wrapped in a busiest time of the year—Black Friday sale.
It was honestly hard to get past the narration but I did like the post apocalyptic storyline mixed with some humor. I will recommend it to my teens!
A unique apocalyptic novel with lots of sarcasm, demon fight and all on a busy retail day - Black Friday. It is definitely for the younger YA group.
Yes, the market is saturated with post-apocalyptic teens who save the world. But there's room for one that's largely set in a mundane dollar store with occasional monsters from the abyss. This book balances its playfulness with detailed action adventures and tender philosophy.
