I know very little about this subject matter, but this book did a great job of explaining to me as a layperson.

I thought there were parts that could be eliminated as the author kind of liked to include issues, which felt not relevant to me.

Nonetheless, good read.

Crypto Confidential is the most readable book about crypto I've ever read. Nathaniel Eliason succeeds at telling a gripping personal story, even though most of the action takes place online. His short explainer chapters are also some of the most natural-language and jargon-free explanation of crypto concepts I've ever seen.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking to understand why people get swept up in crypto hype, or really any financial mania.
