If you like this kind of book, it is okay. Personally I could not suspend belief long enough to be entertained by the idea that a suburban housewife and stay-at-home mother would ever be tapped to be an "agent". The writing was good, the plot was just thin. I did love her best friend and his story line. Grandma got short-shifted and could have had a more prominent arc.
When newly divorced Gabby Greene is pulled into the EOD because she's the spitting image of a spy who's been killed, her life is turned upside down. After a couple of days of a crash course training, Gabby is sent into the field only to realize that the spy had other secrets of her own. With her family in danger, Gabby decides to take care of business her own way and learns that she's stronger than anyone has given her credit for.
Totally unrealistic- CIA would never ever do this-but if you can get past that (and I did) this is a spirited and often quite funny read. Gabby is recruited because of her looks and now she's up against the Russian mob, She's a fish out of water but she's determined, Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A summer popcorn book that might make a cute movie.
As this was my first time reading Sam Tschida’s work, I was not sure about how this story would play out. It seemed a bit far fetched in believability but I found myself enjoying it more and more as I continued reading, and ended up pleasantly surprised at the end.
I appreciate being able to preview this book thanks to NetGalley, and happy to have offered an honest review.
Silly and fun. Gabby Greene has only been divorced for four months. She is trying to survive dealing with kids and hasn’t been in the workforce for fifteen years. When a government agency, EOD (Elite Operatives Department), presses her into service. Her biggest qualification is that she looks like an operative that looks like an agent that was killed in the middle of an assignment. Gabby is now adding spy training and working in an office without many skills to her workload.
This mission is about Russians and money laundering and finding who outed the previous agent. If you can suspend the logical side of your brain this is a lot of fun. Her ex husband is hanging around as is grandma who escaped Russian decades ago. Add in dashing Marcus ,as the experienced agent keeping watch on her. I see this as setting up a fun series and Marcus being a potential love interest. I wasn’t overly concerned about the mystery itself figuring Gabby would muddle herself through the job. I will look forward to the next adventure.
While trying to find her footing as a recently divorced single mom, Gabby was approached by the CIA after facial recognition software determined she was a match for a murdered field rep. Needless to say, becoming a spy was definitely one way for Gabby to break out of her stay-at-home-mom rut.
I have to admit, the premise was totally outlandish, but this book was a lot of fun. This is not the first (or second, or third) time I have read a book like this, but I can honestly say that I enjoyed getting to be part of Gabby's chaotic world. Tschida put Gabby in some hilarious situations and padded the story with a great supporting cast who added to my amusement. I loved Gabby's voice and all her internal dialogs, and grandma and Justin were total scene stealers.
Gabby's new career path may have been fairly unbelievable, but many other aspects of her life were absolutely relatable. The story touches about common life woes such as fighting to find that life-work balance as well as trying to be super mom while also attempting to satisfy your own needs. It's not easy for anyone, nor was it easy for Gabby, but it was rife with comical situations. It was a fun trip down memory lane for me which was made even better with the shenanigans turned up a notch.
I spent a lot of time laughing and feeling second hand embarrassment for Gabby, but I was also cheering for her as she began to grow into her role as a CIA operative. Breaking from who she had been for so long was no easy task, and Gabby was thrown straight into the deep end on this one, but she ended up being really resourceful when her feet were held to the fire.
I have mixed feelings about this being labeled a rom-com though. It was tons of fun, so YES to the comedy label, but the romance was rather light. There were some sparks, here and there, but the main focus was definitely Gabby and her growing pains as a single mom and field agent. The romance may not have been the star of this story but it was very sweet, and again, I found myself rooting for Gabby.
Over, this was a delightful comeback story which delivered lots of laughs.
Divorced mom Gabby is used to wrangling kids and laundry, not international intrigue. But when a secret government agency recruits her for an undercover mission, her life takes a wild turn. With a handsome spy as her guide, she navigates this dangerous world, discovering a strength she never knew she had.
This spy-thriller romp is fast-paced and fun. It’s filled with quirky characters and unexpected twists. I hope there will be a sequel—the book has series potential.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
It’s summer… and I am in a carefree, playful mood, craving 'fun' books. Errands and Espionage by Sam Tschida fell into my lap a few weeks ago. I finished reading it on a late Sunday evening and, I felt a bit sad that this book came to an end! I found it entertaining and quite funny at times!
I liked Gabby a lot. When the CIA agents knocked on her door, I knew her life was going to change, and we were about to experience a huge adventure together. I found her relatable, and as the storyline progressed, I was vested in her success.
I enjoy books that revolve around family drama, and this one delivered- at one point, I even laughed under my bedcovers late at night- unable to put the book down and sleep (I am thankful for my LED neck reading light)! If you are looking for a romcom that will entertain you for a few hours, give this one try!
I received a copy of this ARC e-galley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I will be recommending this book to all my Finlay Donovan loving friends!!
It’s difficult to explore how women over 30 can feel downtrodden or downright forgotten and still be funny, but Sam Tschida walks that line and comes out with a lot of laughs. The tone wasn’t too self deprecating or too dark, and overall, it’s a fun read. I loved some of the takes on mom life, fashion, and work-life balance. Suspend your disbelief and ride this rollercoaster of a novel. It’s a fun one!!!
I absolutely loved this novel as a mom that feels lost in motherhood. The author is hilarious and I am manifesting that this becomes a movie!
1st book by this author . Chose it based on the colorful cover and title. It sounded interesting! It was laugh out loud funny at times. I will look for more books by this author!
This was such a fun beach read. Gabby Greene is a recently divorced housewife, struggling to keep up on the house, and take care of her 2 kids as a single parent. On top of that she hasn’t worked in 14 years and needs to get a job to support herself and the kids. As she’s struggling to figure out how a housewife can re-enter the workforce the answer to her problems literally knocks on her front door. Cue 2 CIA agents offering her a job to join them for an undercover mission, with a salary she can’t refuse. What follows is all the hilarity you would expect when you ask an untrained housewife to work as an elite spy. Training keeps going wrong, a bunch of issues crop up on her first day of her new “job”, and as she’s struggling with all this she still has all the duties of a single parent to manage! This book was charming, and filled with humor, mystery, and a touch of romance. I so enjoyed this story and hope this turns into a series where we keep getting to follow Gabby on her adventures! I received an ARC, and this is my honest review.
Gabby Greene, recently divorced and mother of two, hasn't worked in fourteen years, as her husband preferred a stay-at-home wife. Overwhelmed with laundry, children, and housework, she's startled by a knock on her door from two CIA agents. They need her to replace Darcy, an agent lost in an undercover mission. They assure her it's just office assistance work—no pressure. Despite her klutziness during training, she's in.
At the office, she encounters issues with the Russian mob that is doing money laundering. Her best friend and neighbor assists with the kids, her ex being of no help. Chaos ensues when her mother drops off Gabby's elderly grandmother and her boyfriend, expelled from their nursing home. Amidst the domestic turmoil, Gabby is kidnapped while taking out the trash, uncovering that Darcy was a double agent linked to the Russian mob, seeking information on her boss. Now she is not sure who to trust.
A tale of fun, chaos, and delight unfolds.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.
If you can completely suspend your disbelief, you'll enjoy the ride. This was much better than I was expecting. Looks like it might be the start of a series, and I'm all for it. It's a quick read with great side characters. It was also really funny, especially Markus and Justin. The teen drama/annoying little brother scenes were spot on. I hope we get to see them all again!
Delightful entertainment. An amusing mother versus spy tale. Engaging characters. Would have preferred the "f" word not be included. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
I feel bad that I've been in such a reading slump because I haven't been able to care about a lot of these anticipated releases like this one. I really wanted this one to be the one to break the slump, but unfortunately, this wasn't it for me.
"Errands & Espionage" is an amateur spy mystery sprinkled with humor and romance. The premise was intriguing, and the story's even pacing kept me engaged throughout. However, the romantic subplot fell flat for me. There wasn't enough chemistry between Markus and Gabby, and their relationship lacked depth, making it hard for me to invest in their romance.
The main plot reaches a conclusion, but the author leaves room for a potential sequel involving the main characters. While I found "Errands & Espionage" to be an enjoyable read, I’m not eagerly anticipating a second installment. I appreciated the undercover spy elements more than the romantic aspects.
Overall, this was a quick, fun read that held my interest throughout.
A big thank you to NetGalley, as well as Grand Central Publishing, for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Cute stay-at-home-divorced-mom turned reluctant undercover spy story. Not a fan of the cross dressing best friend or transgender daughter arcs but otherwise whimsical and entertaining. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Finlay Donovan so hurried to request this one. However, I was sorely disappointed. This book was more fantasy than I usually read. I say that because you really have to suspend all belief to get into this story and I just couldn’t do it. It does seem like it could be fun, just wasn’t the book for me.
Gabby Greene is a recently divorced SAHM that is looking to get back into the work force. She is offered an undercover mission with a secret government agency to finish out an assignment in which the former agent was killed in action. It just so happens that Gabby looks enough like said agent to pass as her and with no other options at her disposal Gabby takes the gig. This positioned itself as a tongue-in-cheek fun spy book but it was hard to get into because Gabby's character was constantly putting herself down and continued to do so throughout the book. On top of that she did actually read as fairly inept when it came to much of what she had signed on for with both her home and work life which was disappointing. Her character showed little growth but still got credit for all sorts of things. The romantic element of this book felt like it should have been completely left out as it did nothing to add to the story and was frankly pretty awkward. A lot of the book requires a fair amount of belief to be suspended which is fine but I was hoping for more character growth or at least some good laughs and I didn't feel there was much of either but this may appeal to a different sense of humor than mine. This book wasn't for me but it may be for you if you like the premise and aren't bothered by the things mentioned above.
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC of this book.
