Love the cover of this book! Another great book by Noelle Ihli!
This book was awesome and packed full of twists and turns and to have this based on events from 1984 story. after reading this it gave me wrong turn vibes all the way! It started slow but soon became intense and not being able to put it down. After continuing to read it was a page turner for sure.
Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.
This is one of those thrilling books that you’d finish in one-sitting, despite it being a rather difficult read.
The story is inspired by real life events and has a whole pool of trigger warnings. It will get your heart racing all the way through. The ending, however, could’ve given a bit more, just a little bit more would’ve made this a 5 stars read.
Will highly recommend!
I was excited to read this as it’s based on a true story. The first part of the book moved a little slow for me. I thought I wasn’t going to enjoy this as much as I thought. Then it picked up like gold on to your seat because it’s going to get crazy! If you have triggers please know that there are several in this book. I was mad! I was sad! I was angry! But I also had hope. It was hard to read some parts but if you can stick it out I promise you will not regret it! Such an amazing story! Thank you for the opportunity to read this!
This book is inspired by true events from 1984. I really was hoping to like this one more then I did but there were parts that were hard to get through. I understand the hunting of animals needed to be in this story but it could have been written differently and should have been in the content warnings. Normally I enjoy this authors books but this one fell short. I wasn’t even slightly hooked until 80% into this book and even then I didn’t get heart pounding “what’s gonna happen, I have to keep reading” like most of her books do.
Wow! I couldn’t put it down and read during every free second I could spare. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This book follows the life of a biathlon athlete who finds herself working at an upscale resort in the Frank Church area. While training, she finds herself holding the attention of a kidnapping father and son duo. The does much to outsmart them, but she begins to wonder at what point will she become placid like the other captive woman.
I truly enjoyed reading this book so much. Not only was it super captivating, it was very well written. I found myself reading this book and hoping that I will one day be watching this in theaters. The pace of this novel was perfect. I was so invested and needed to know what was happening next. There are not many books that I can read in less than 48 hours, but this is definitely one of them.
To be honest, there isn't anything I would change about this story. I understand that a majority of it was borrowed from a true story. I really enjoyed the blurb at the end of the book where the author briefly touched on the similarities, but pointed out that while the story is similar, the original muse holds full ownership of her own experience. It is such a harrowing thing to think about, the events that happened in this book being close to things that actually took place, but I think Gray After Dark was a great example of using a real narrative and making it fiction.
Thank you Netgalley and Xpresso Book Tours for the opportunity to read and review early!
3.5 ⭐️
I really enjoyed Room For Rent and was super excited to pick this one up by the same author. This was a pretty fast-paced thriller, and the fact that it is loosely based on a real life story makes it all the more heart wrenching.
I would say that it is pretty tame as far as thrillers go - there weren’t any twists, and it was definitely more of a survival story than anything else. Nevertheless, I flew through it and would recommend it to others. ❤️
What a heart pumping thrill ride this book took me on! The BPM on my smart watch while reading the last 25% is proof! I had to take breaks because my anxiety was through the roof!! I even shed a few tears. ⚠️ There are a few trigger warnings noted at the beginning of the book for pregnancy loss, infertility, domestic abuse, sexual violence and gun violence ⚠️ Parts of it were hard to read at times, especially because it's based on a true story, but if you can hang in there, you won't regret it!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dynamite Books for this eARC.
One word to describe this book would be INTENSE. It gave me Wrong Turn vibes in the best way.
Although main points seemed far-fetched, I was fully invested. Miley was a badass and I couldn’t help but root for her every step of the way. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her in the beginning but that changed quickly.
As with all of this authors previous work, this is a complete page turner.
This author sure knows how to get your heart rate going with her thrilling stories. I really enjoyed this one especially after learning it’s partially based on a true story. It will definitely keep you in your toes
Noelle W. Ihli, you've knocked it out of the park for me again!! So honored to get to read Gray After Dark before it's release on March 22. I have now read all her books and I am OBSESSED!
I read this book in 2 sittings - I couldn't put it down. I was invested in Miley from the beginning and then also with Rayna when she's introduced in the storyline. The writing, story, details felt so real. I felt like I was right there in the Frank Church Wilderness with Miley and Rayne. Throughout the whole time in the wilderness, I found myself reading their names as Miley and Rayna, not as Ruthie Sue or Mary, as if not to give Frank or Hamish the satisfaction. Gray After Dark made me feel raw emotion and
I will read anything Noelle writes and recommend her books to anyone that aks.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I just finished this book, and I don’t even know where to start with my review because I’m still speechless. But I have to let the word out there that I rated this book 10 STARS!!! And it’s been a long time since I read a book this good, so good that it deserves a rating higher than 5.
It was intense, extremely dark, anxiety and anger-inducing, traumatizing and terrifying. I was conflicted and had to catch a break every time I finish a chapter because I was afraid of what will happen next; yet, at the same time, I wanted to continue to know what’s on the next page. A lot of parts still terrify me just by thinking about it. Apart from all the thrill, this book is truly inspiring. Miley’s experiences in life gave her the perseverance and the will to survive. She has the right mental space to get through the whole journey. But my heart really goes out to Rayna. I had happy tears while reading the last chapter cos I was truly rooting for her freedom and happiness.
I didn’t read the synopsis of this one when I requested for an ARC, I went in somewhat blind. I requested it because of the author. I’m glad I got approved because this book will live rent free in my mind for so long, and won’t stop recommending it for sure.
Thank you Netgalley, Noelle Ihli and Dynamite Books for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars!
Wow!! This book !
I was hooked from the first page, it was a perfect abduction story, had me biting my nails and was so intense in finding out what happened! I really really enjoyed reading this book.
The reason I didn’t give 5 stars was because the ending fell a bit flat for me , I was expecting a little more. But overall what a great read.
Noelle has done it again! If you’re a fan of her other works like I am, then let me tell you that you will not be disappointed with Gray After Dark! I know it’s only March, but I am calling it early as my favourite read for 2024!
Noelle has a way of writing that makes you feel like you’re there, and before you know it, you’re experiencing all of the same emotions and holding your breath right along side her characters! I don’t think any other author has ever captivated me so much as Noelle does. She has a way of describing in such detail every setting, smell and feeling, that every word becomes an important piece of the puzzle to the scene that’s playing out in my head.
Gray After Dark is the definition of a page tuner, so please don’t kid yourself, just cancel your plans for the day and buckle up for the ride!
Will Dean’s The Last Thing to Burn meets Chevy Stevens AND the Wrong Turn movies. This book was pretty brutal and honestly felt like a horror movie I would’ve watched when I was younger. Noelle once again has delivered a perfect one sitting read. I couldn’t put this one down and felt extremely satisfied once I’d read the last page. 5/5 books of hers that I’ve now read and loved…. can’t wait for the next! Fast paced & super easy to read, 4.5 stars!
Gray After Dark by Noelle W. Ihli
I have enjoyed several of Noelle W. Ihli’s books but this is definitely my newest favorite. This is the story of Miley who is training for the next Olympic biathlon. During her off season she decides to work at a ritzy remote resort in the frank church wilderness in Idaho, literally millions of untamed acres. Yet Miley looks at it as an excellent training/running area and an escape from her mothers death that still haunts her. She’s immediately warned of bears and also of a girl who disappeared from this same area a few years ago. But this doesn’t stop her from exploring. When Miley ends up missing too her best friend and teammate, Brent shows up to assist in finding her. Is she still alive? Will he find her?
I was on the edge of my seat nearly this whole book, especially at the end. 5⭐️ plus.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐+⭐⭐ (I never ever rated any book so high)
Gray After Dark by Noelle W. Ihli is nail-biting, heart-pounding, tricky, blood-boiling, anxiety-inducing, claustrophobic, emotional, gasping-out-loud... and so many more emotions involving thriller that I even don't know where to start! I never experienced my heartbeat rise with turning pages, it was so intense that I just needed to put it down. I literally just couldn't face the next chapter... I picked it up the next day but I needed a lot of TED talks to open it to continue to read... seriously I don't remember when I had so many emotions going on... I kept telling myself "It's just a book!" until I got to the author's note... even though this is purely a work of fiction, I nearly died inside!
All I can say is that this is a MUST-read book if you can tolerate (trigger warning) heavy abuse.
Miley thought that the accident she experienced was the worst thing ever... she was so wrong!
She went to The Frank Church Wilderness for a summer job and to recover but things go horribly wrong when she’s abducted during her morning run...
This heartbreaking story is about hope... HOPE!!!!!
This book will stay with me for a while! I literally believe it's a book of the year unless there is something more breathtaking this year!
Thank you, Netgalley and Dynamite Books for this copy, and thank you Avid Readers Club for recommending this book!
Wow, what an incredible book by Noelle W. Ihli. It had my heart racing at times. I read it in one sitting because I had to know what happened next
The storyline is based around Miley, a Biathelete, working and training on her journey to the next Olympics. During a run one morning in the wilderness in Idaho, Miley is abducted, taken by two men. She has no idea that she is to become the wife of one of these deranged mountain men.
The captors in this book are horrific, both in their violent ways but also in their level of misogyny. Those are the type of men women fear everyday when they hear footsteps behind them in the dark while walking home. They're very realistic characters, and very easy to hate.
On the flip side, there is constant hope throughout the storyline as Miley demonstrates incredible resilience and determination. She is strong, unwavering and smart. She is the type of protagonist you want to cheer for.
The story is loosely based around the real story of Kari Swenson who was an athlete abducted in 1984 by two men living off-grid in rural Montana. This fact made the book so much more moving to me to think of what she went through to fight for her freedom.
The ending was a little disappointing in that it didn't elaborate very much on what happened after the rescue, however, I would still highly recommend this book.
This was a strong book which I could not put down! It engrossed me and reeled me in completely! I can’t wait for this book to officially be launched and so I can get a physical copy! Strongly recommended!
Noelle does it again! I love every book that she has written. She has such a way with words that makes you feel like you are in the story with the characters. This story follows Miley, an Olympic athlete, and what she goes through after being kidnapped. This book is based on the true story of Kari Swenson. If you haven't heard of her story, I would look it up or even just read this book and then read her story. I loved this novel and was on edge the whole time!
