Becky Hunter's One Moment is a poignant exploration of love, loss, and the impact of a single decision on the lives of its characters. The narrative revolves around a moment that changes everything for the protagonist, leading her on a journey of self-discovery and healing.
Hunter’s writing is both lyrical and evocative, drawing readers into the emotional depth of the story. The characters are beautifully developed, each grappling with their own struggles and desires, which makes their journeys relatable and compelling. The interplay between past and present adds richness to the narrative, as the protagonist reflects on how one pivotal moment shaped her life.
The pacing is well-crafted, with a blend of heartwarming and heartbreaking moments that keep readers engaged. Hunter skillfully navigates themes of regret and redemption, encouraging readers to reflect on their own choices and the fragility of life.
Overall, One Moment is a heartfelt read that resonates long after the final page, making it a must-read for anyone who appreciates deeply emotional storytelling.
I went in with this story completely blind, and based on the cover alone, did not expect this to be such an emotional read. I love that books can still surprise me in the best way, and really find myself gravitating towards books that handle themes of grief like this.
When Evie’s best friend Scarlett dies just before her 30th birthday, she must now pick up the pieces and try to overcome the grief and emotions that it brings.
I really enjoyed the narration by Heather Long, which added each emotion and had a great performance of character.
*many thanks to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for the gifted ALC for review
This book was unique and heart wrenching. From the cover I thought this was going to be another romcom and I went into it without reading the description. I was happy to discover that it’s fiction. I loved this book. I am recommending it to everyone at my store.

The day Scarlett dies should have been one of the most important of her life. It doesn't feel fair that she'll never have the chance to fulfil her dreams. And now, she's still ... here ... somehow, watching the ripple effect of her death on the lives of those she loved the most.
Review.
Thank you, NetGalley for an advanced Audiobook of this book
what attracted me to this book was the cover at first due to it looking so colorful and also the art is simple.
the audiobook was nice to listen to & Heather Long did a great job at giving emotion to the characters that you get to know through the story/ chapters, in this book we get 2 POVs the one who passed away ( Scarlet) & the best friend who is grieving her death and how her life has changed but as the book goes on we see the processes of grief and how hard it is to see the world good anymore when ur in such pain. Early on in the book we are introduced to a character who comes in as responsible for her friend's death at first things are awkward ( as they should be) but as time goes on you get the feeling he is a love interest... 67% though the book my thoughts where please don't be a love interest during the time of grieving because she is not thinking straight and also in an emotional state of disarray ( i would prefer them to be two people who found each other and become dear friends due to them sharing something that connects them and that he also knows how losing a beloved one feels), but the love story narrative has been the road chosen... not that I am hating it because it is sweet but I am not one hundred percent about it, also for me the love story happening doesn't feel a hundred percent good due to the main character grieving, but I do appreciate that through the love interest see finally see's that she can achieve much more then she thought she ever could.
I did enjoy the story but some things have not been to my taste but is still a good book and I do recommend it to people who want to read a story that has some good character development, about dealing with a lifelong illness, and also finding a connection and love through some bad times that are life-changing.
3.5 star
Woof, what an emotional read! Which is no surprise, given that it is centered on the day of Scarlett’s death, but still.. I’m a sappy mess. While this one certainly had me teary, it also had me cheerful and smiling through it. It speaks to the importance and strength of friendship and love. It plays with the concept of one choice affecting all the rest, the idea that we are all a result of the choices we make throughout our life.
It is a fierce debut novel, a fierce testament to the remarkable impact a friend can have on your life, and the fierce belief that every choice we make changes us in some form.
Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for this gem, I adored this story from start to finish.
Scarlett died in a freak accident right before her 30th birthday, just as her life was really beginning. However, she finds that she can’t fully let go of life on Earth and id somehow watching how her death is impacting her loved ones, especially her best friend Evie. In many ways Scarlett’s death completely changes the trajectory of Evie’s life. But one thing she struggles with the most is how Nick, the man who Scarlett was saving when she died, can fit into Evie’s life moving forward.
Don’t let the bright and happy cover fool you. This book will rip your heart open multiple times. I was not fully prepared for the emotional roller coaster this book took me on. I cried multiple times, and was touched by Evie’s grief and her journey of healing. While this book is heartbreaking in so many ways, it is also incredibly beautiful and will definitely sit with me for a long time. The audiobook narrated by Heather Long was fantastic. She provided so much depth and emotion to this story and really brought it to life.
Thank you to Forever Publishing, Hachette Audio and NetGalley for the advance copy.
What happens when your best friend dies helping someone else? The one person who’s always there and your best and only companion? Scarlet leaves a big hole in a big way and Evie struggles to accept Nate’s role. But he keeps showing up and things look brighter in an unexpected way.
I knew going in this may require tissues and I geared up with plenty of fluff ahead of time. It was so good! And I didn’t even ugly cry as I expected (although I probably would have if I read it physically...) The friendships, the grief, the romance were all so heartbreakingly beautiful.
Thank you to @hachetteaudio for the #complimentary audiobook. All thoughts are my own.
Thank you to #NetGalley for letting me read this ARC.
A heartbreaking and yet uplifting book about one the one hand losing someone you love, and on the other hand of letting go of things not turning out the way you expected. The book is well-paced, has a easy flowing language and did make me shed a tear.
Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Autio, Forever for this ARC Audio Copy!
Such a beautiful story of grief and life that will stick with you for a really long time. The beauty of the friendship in this book that makes you feel all the feels. You will probably cry but isn't that just something that we need sometimes while we take a journey through so many different emotions. I don't want to give away too much but this is definitely one that is worth the read.

I think this book touched on some strong subjects I don't enjoy reading a lot, especially the POV of the passed away friend. Like her seeing how miserable her friend is because of her passing, and she's trying to let her see that's she's fine and happy. Like not for me.
A story about losing your best friend and finding yourself. Since Evie's MS diagnosis, she has become more reclusive. After her best friend and roommate dies in an accident, she is left to put the pieces back together. She has several people who don't give her a choice, which makes her start reintering life and experiencing love.
One Moment was such a beautiful and hopeful story of friendship, love and loss. After losing her best friend Scarlett, Evie is overcome with grief, already feeling directionless in her daily life. As Scarlett watches on, Evie works through her grief, to adapt to life with a chronic illness, and navigates a relationship with Nate, who was present at Scarlett’s accident.
Whilst focused around heavy issues, the author did a beautiful job of capturing hope, forgiveness and purpose through Evie and Scarlett’s story. I loved how their relationship was central to the story. The ghost element felt unique, and did not fall into the typical supernatural plot points, instead providing a window for Evie and Scarlett to process their grief and reflect on their choices. The various other relationships represented had beautiful depth, and I felt so invested in all of their stories.
The narrators voice was gentle and soothing, and she captured the emotional experiences of the chapters so well without over dramatising. I would highly recommend this as an audiobook.
Thank you Hachette Audio and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
I absolutely adored this book. Heartbreaking and brilliantly done. You are going to laugh and you may cry a little because this book has all the feels. It is a unique storyline, but truly enjoyable.
The audio book is very well done. Narration grabs you in and it is very had to press pause.
Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this read.
I enjoyed that this story didn’t follow any of the usual ghost rules. I spent some time wondering why Scarlett was hanging around after she died but it turns out she was making sure her long time best friend Evie was going to be ok. Evie was having trouble in life with her job, a diagnosis of MS and then added on the accidental death of her BFF Scarlett. Things were not going well for her, Then she met Nate & Astrid who both added to her life & didn’t let her wallow in her flat. Evie went on adventures & leaned that her MS didn’t have to hinder her life so much.
The ending of this book was my absolute favourite, I can’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it but it left me with the most lovely feeling after. Scarlett had a choice to make and she chose Evie living out the life she had found for herself.
I enjoyed the narrator for this book & they were easy to listen to.
Thanks to NetGalley and Hachette Book Group for a copy of this audiobook.
4 1/2 stars
This was such a wonderful debut. It was more than a typical romance, it was a beautiful story of friendship as well. Even though the premise is based on the tragic loss of Evie's best friend, this still manages to be a touching story that tugs the heartstrings in all the ways. You really have to sit back and think about the importance of your best friend and how deep that love runs and what a loss that has to be when you lose that person.
In this book, you really get the feel for fate and how sometimes things are just meant to happen. Also, a bit of how something good can come from something so horrible. Because through losing Scarlett, Evie meets Nate and they launch into any awkward and sometimes painful friendship. It truly is a beautiful story even if it's a little heartbreaking.
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW: The narration for this audiobook was done quite well. It felt like a true performance and I was completely pulled into the story. 4 1/2 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for early copies of both the ebook and audiobook.
I was really invested in the first 25% then I felt like it slowed down and lost its hold on me. The characters ended up feeling very bland and I kept hoping for more excitement from them, which unfortunately never happened for me.
I recently listened to One Moment written by Becky Hunter and narrated by Heather Long. It was a great listen. Heather Long did a terrific job.
I did not know what to expect. But it was everything and so much more. All the feels.
I really do not love books that are not "real", but this one was so good. Similar to the movie Sliding Doors.... what if I changed my decision and did not go to the coffee shop this morning? Would X happen? The book gives you a lot to think about, and ultimately, you are left realizing that maybe everything does happen for a reason (as cliche as that sounds).
In addition to this Sliding Doors plot, I felt deeply for Evie, the friend that is left after the accident.
It was a heart wrenching, thoroughly enjoyable listen.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for this advanced listen in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thanks NetGalley for the advanced audiobook. This had potential, but lost me about halfway through. I really enjoyed Scarlet's perspective of things happening after she died and how she got to watch things play out for her best friend, Evie, who has MS, after she passes. It's a story of grief, loss, and the strong bond of friendship. The concept was good but I felt like it got a bit tedious to listen to. It does make you think about what happens when we leave this world, are we left behind to see how our loved ones are doing without us? Can we see how past decisions led to future happenings?
I absolutely ADORED this book. I was hooked from the very beginning, not expecting such a sad story to somehow be exceptionally funny at times. I felt myself relating to Evie quite a lot, yet I can’t imagine the pain she was going through - even though we gained quite a deep insight into her emotional turmoil. The writing style was amazing, it was poetic at times yet still conveyed the emotions and actions of the characters incredibly well. I loved Nate and really felt for him as his life was shown, piece by piece and you could see that whilst he blamed himself for what happened, he didn’t let it destroy him and used his grief to help others.
Heather Long is an incredible narrator and shows the thoughts and feelings of each character as though she were the person experiencing them. I love how she portrayed each person, whether they be a main or side character and it was easy to distinguish each person from another - including incredible accents.
The audiobook is just under 9 hours long. I highly recommend it to any women’s fiction or romance fan, especially those who enjoy an audiobook.
9/10
I loved this story of 2 best friends and how they grow through their challenges (extreme understatement!). This book was so emotional and quickly drew me in to the storyline. The characters are smart and caring, reflecting on their past mistakes and adapting to new situations. I can't say enough good things about this without any spoilers, though I will say it is ultimately hopeful.
