Finding You started off slow in the fact that the characters met and seemingly instantly fall head of heels. It bordered on superficial, unrealistic, and just...full of fluff. But...then, the emotional punch hit and things really got rolling. Themes of family abandonment, recovering from loss, health crises...and learning to heal made this novel so engaging. The emotional depth of when things become real is what made me root for Darcy and Carter and believe they belonged together.

Darcy's fiance gave her a new chance of life through kidney donation, then was killed in a car accident, for which Darcy blames herself - and now, 18 months later, she's still trying to put her life back together. When an intriguing stranger helps her after her car breaks down, and they subsequently meet at a car show, she can't decide whether this is something she should pursue or not. Carter is fascinated by Darcy, but she's clearly come from money, whereas he's broke and living with his sister and brother-in-law for the foreseeable future - not to mention he's already been rejected once for his health problems, and reluctant to face that again. They enjoy spending time together, but can they overcome their pasts to open the door to a future? And when an unexpected secret comes to light, will it be the catalyst that blows everything apart, or something to make them stronger?

I've never known or thought much about kidney donation, so while this doesn't go into it particularly deeply, that did make for a very interesting part of the story. The angst involved in deciding to find and meet a biological parent also added a good touch, and I loved the way that Carter supported Darcy throughout, not pushing one way or the other, just providing support. I enjoyed getting to know both Darcy and Carter, and seeing them gradually work through their assorted baggage until they got to the point where they could make a future together was delightful. My one comment would be that somewhere towards the end I stopped being 'in' the story and was just watching. The big problem between them felt fairly inevitable, but I couldn't predict how they'd react - fortunately it all worked out (I don't think that counts as a spoiler - it is a romance, after all!). All in all, a good read, well written, with plenty of depth but without being heavy, and a satisfying ending. Recommended.

Finding You, by Amy Clipston, is an amazing contemporary Christian fiction story. This is a well written, easy to read and imagine story. I enjoyed this story because it has so much meaning to it. It is about real life situations that most people don’t even think about. I enjoyed Darcy’s and Carter’s stories and how their health condition affected them, their thoughts and their relationship to those around them. I especially enjoyed how helpful Carter’s sister is toward him to help him get back on his feet financially. It is interesting to see the different relationships they have toward their parents as well. This is an enjoyable story to read, one that sticks with the reader after finishing it.

I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

Finding You is the fourth book with ties to Flowering Grove, NC, by Amy Clipston. Darcy Larsen has had a couple of very difficult years. Today she was given good news from her nephrologist that all of her numbers were good as she is at the second anniversary of her kidney transplant. But afterwards her car would not start and Darcy had an important presentation coming up at work. As her starter fails her, a handsome stranger knocks on her window to ask if he can help. He offers to jump her car to get it started, but the car needs more. Professional mechanic Carter Donovan then offers to have her car towed wherever she would like as well as a lift to her office. Darcy follows her instincts and thanks Carter for his help, having the car towed to his family’s shop and accepting his offer of a ride.

Besides when Darcy picks up her repaired vehicle, her path crosses Carter’s again at a car show soon after their meeting in Flowering Grove, then again at a friend’s housewarming a couple of weeks later. With a special attraction, their relationship grows until secrets they both hold threaten to tear them apart.

This is a very good story treating some sensitive issues (organ transplant, adoption, parental desertion) in a gentle manner. Ms. Clipston does an excellent job of presenting this tale for which she has a very personal connection. I was really drawn into this story and I do recommend it!

Finding You is a contemporary romance by Amy Clipston. I thought Finding You lacked depth, and the plot was predictable. I thought Darcy behaved in an uncharacteristic manner. One minute she is grieving the loss of her fiancé from a couple years prior (sad, crying) and seconds later she is ogling the garage mechanic. This type of behavior is throughout the story. I want to know how Darcy can be grief stricken and depressed, but, at the same time, she cannot stop thinking about the hunky and helpful Carter. The same details are repeated over and over throughout the book. The story focuses on Darcy’s search for her biological parents and romance. Darcy and Carter manage to avoid speaking about important issues (I am not a fan of the miscommunication trope). I found it frustrating (I wanted to lock the pair in a small room until they sorted things out). Finding You is too long (352 pages). I found myself skimming over the repetitive sections to reach the end. If I had not seen the author’s name on the cover, I would not believe it was written by her. I was surprised that there were no Christian elements in the story (considering the publisher and author). While I enjoy Amy Clipston’s Amish stories, Finding You fell flat for me.

"Wait...can I get your number?"

"...I think you're really cute, Carter...but I'm not really dating right now."

"Oh, I meant that I need to text you about the car." He grinned. "But I think you're cute too."

So begins the sweetest emotional romance between Darcy and Carter in the heartfelt Finding You by bestselling contemporary author Amy Clipston.

After leaving her doctor's office Darcy's car won't start. Luckily, Carter sees her and has the car towed to his garage. Despite her determination to not be in a relationship, she can't deny their immediate connection.

Darcy is dealing with so much loss. Her fiance died in a car accident 18 months ago on his way to pick up the meds she forgot. He was also part of a pair donor exchange. He donated a kidney to someone and in exchange someone donated a kidney to Darcy, saving her life. The guilt is overwhelming her.

Carter's in serious debt, living with his sister and her boyfriend, working all the time at the garage. He feels he can't afford a life with Darcy.

I listened and read this beautiful love story simultaneously and it was an emotional experience. Hearing voice actress Melissa Moran well up with tears as Darcy or breakdown during Carter's frustration tore through me. As they find their way to each other, they need to find trust. Carter doesn't know about her transplant and she doesn't know why he was in the doctor's parking lot the day they met.

This writer took her personal story and with a pure heart wrote about those poignant moments of finding the courage to trust, to love again, not just another, but yourself.

Amy Clipston has a way to draw fully into the story from the beginning. This book is loosely based on her own life. My emotions were all over the place with this story. Darcy and Carter are both kidney transplant recipients. They are instantly attracted to each other, but they both have major baggage.
If you like a sweet romance, this story is for you. Many thanks to the author, Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Finding You by Amy Clipston is a sweet and engaging tale with endearing characters. Darcy and Carter felt so real and very relatable.
The story is so tender, sweet and clean.
I loved the small-town feeling. And trust me when I say that Clipston can write the most perfect and stunning contemporary romance.
This was a charming romance read filled with compelling characters and plenty of heart. A wonderful read!

Finding You by Amy Clipston
A Sweet Contemporary Romance
Both of them want a relationship—but is beginning it a big mistake?

On the outside, twenty-seven-year-old Darcy Larsen is a pretty, put-together professional—but inside she’s falling apart. Eighteen months ago, she lost her fiancé in an accident she still blames herself for. After a successful transplant, her kidney disease seems to be in check, but she worries that her future children—if she has any—will also suffer from the same condition. And she’s overcome with indecision about finding her birth mother, discovering potentially devastating information, and hurting her adoptive parents.

Mechanic Carter Donovan seems to have everything going for him at first glance. Stunning good looks. A wicked sense of humor. And a heart of gold. But Carter’s seemingly perfect exterior hides a host of secrets. After a rough breakup and mounting medical bills from a medical emergency that left him drowning in debt, he doesn’t feel like the catch everyone says he is. Plus, he’s about to turn thirty—with no romantic prospects on the horizon.

When Darcy’s Lexus breaks down in her doctor’s parking lot, Carter appears on the scene to try to jump-start her car—and her heart. But despite their immediate connection right from the start, the two have perhaps too many obstacles to overcome. Carter questions if getting involved with Darcy will be his next big mistake. And Darcy wonders if she can ever move past her grief and guilt to embrace the gift of Happily Ever After that’s dangling in front of her.
This is Darcy Larsen and Carter Donovan's story.
Your labwork looks fantastic, Darcy.” Dr. Mona Reyes smiled
and sank down onto the round rolling stool across from the
exam table. “I can’t believe it’s been two years since your transplant.
Your kidney numbers are perfect.”
Darcy forced her lips into a smile and hugged her arms over her
green shirt. “Time has flown,” she said.
Turning, she found a man peering in her window.
“Sorry.” He lifted his hand. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” He
pointed toward the hood of her car. “Need some help?”
She pushed her door open. “It won’t start.”
“I heard the clicks.” He grinned, and she couldn’t help but notice how handsome he was.
The man lifted his eyebrows and nodded toward the hood of the
car. “Sounds like a dead battery. I can jump it for you.”
“Thank you, but I don’t have
jumper cables.”
“You’re in luck. I always carry a set just in case.”
“I’m Carter, by the way.”
“Darcy.”
I recommend this book.

This book has taken me completely by surprise, I must confess that I was guided more by the cover than by the synopsis, so when I started to read it seriously, I had no idea of what I would find.

The whole scenario, the relevance that the author gives to the changes and consequences of having a transplant, has opened a new perspective in me.

For here we meet Darcy, a 27 year old woman who seems to have her life figured out, but who internally is suffering from the death of her fiancé, who dies because she went to get him the drugs for his transplant. So she bears the guilt of his death. In addition, since her transplant she questions her long-term life and how her illness may affect her future children, so she finds herself at a new crossroads, because she is adopted and wants to look for her biological mother but fears that this will harm her adoptive parents.

In the midst of all this turmoil, she meets Carter, a mechanic who has also had a transplant and is left with a huge debt. They meet when Darcy's car breaks down and they take him to the shop where Carter works.

Here we can see how their whole story unfolds and how being from different worlds can create tension in the relationship that is forming, and how Carter feels unworthy of Darcy because of his current situation. Also, neither knows how to tell the other that they have had a transplant, as they fear that their medical problems may affect the other's perception of their relationship.

It was a lovely read, I want to read more from this author in the future.

Finding You is a lovely, touching romance and a great start to a new series. This story is about a chance meeting of Darcy and Carter in a parking lot of a medical office center. Carter, a mechanic, comes to Darcy's rescue when her car won't start. Their acquaintance begins after he repairs the car at the shop where he works. They become friends with the promise of more, but slowly as both are carrying burdens that prohibit them from pursuing a relationship. Or so they think. It is a complicated situation especially later when their lives are more connected than either of them knew as layers of their lives are peeled back and revealed. Sweet story with a lovely ending. The author mentioned that the story is loosely based on her own personal life. I look forward to the next in the series. This will appeal to those who enjoy romance with twists and complications to overcome.

This was such a beautiful and emotional story. From their very first chance meeting when he helps her after her car breaks down at the doctor's office, Darcy and Carter are drawn to each other. But both have some reservations given their histories. Darcy had lost her fiancé a year and half ago, blaming herself for his death. Carter is facing financial struggles due to health issues and finds himself feeling like he's not good enough to provide for someone else--- especially Darcy whose family is much better offer. If that weren't enough, they're also each keeping the same secret--- they had both had a kidney transplant. Throw in some complicated family issues and there was really a lot going on within this story--- but it was all blended together quite beautifully. It was definitely an emotional read, but I found myself rooting for these two (even if I also wanted to shake them to just talk to each other!) The author's husband also received a kidney transplant, and I think her heart for the topic shined through in this story.

If you're looking for a sweet and emotional romance, this is certainly one to check out.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC publication for an honest review.

This was a sweet romance with a predictable, but enjoyable outcome. Darcy and Carter meet and have an instant connection, but both have some emotional baggage to deal with. There are some similar backstories (kidney recipient, adoption/abandoned by parent). I loved how supportive and loving our couple was to each other. I didn't enjoy the 3rd act breakup (I know we need some angst, but...) I also felt we needed more from Carter's father to make amends and was disappointed his sister didn't take his feelings more into account. I understand we should forgive and cover with grace, but still the dad didn't have any worthwhile excuse for the abandonment and reason to stay away all those years. I was sad/mad for Carter and his legitimate emotions for the loss and painful scars left by his father's selfish act. Also, the ending felt a little rushed...we’re broke up...nope, we’re back together. Talk about emotional whip lash!

Still, a clean and enjoyable romance.

This is an uplifting contemporary romance about second chances at love. Eighteen months after Darcy Larsen's fiancé, Jace, died in a car accident, she is still struggling with grief and guilt. Carter Donovan, who recently had a life-saving kidney transplant, rescues Darcy when her car breaks down, leading to an unexpected romance. As they grow closer, they discover that Carter's transplant has a surprising connection to Jace, threatening their budding relationship. Despite its predictable elements, it is a good read , relatable characters, and heartfelt exploration of themes like love, loss, and organ donation.

While the characters and story are cute it felt kind of disjointed at times. Lots of repetitive themes and descriptions. The way it was written in 3rd person and switched back and forth between the characters made it hard for me to follow at times. I wanted more character development outside of the two of them and that felt lacking for me.

It’s sweet and I’m sure it will be a lot of people’s cup of tea it just wasn’t for me - gives major hallmark movie vibes.

This is my second book by Amy Clipston and did not realize they happen in the same book universe(same small town) I did enjoy this emotional roller coaster of a book. Small town romance with a lot of feelings,
Just a heads up to readers this is classified as a Christian book but it’s not packed full or religion, it’s just a no spice level love story.

Readers who like clean romance novels will enjoy this story. Loved the author’s note at the beginning about kidney disease and transplants. The author’s personal experience really made the novel seem more real. Both Darcy and Carter had important stories that melded together into their story. Heartfelt! Highly recommended!

When a chance encounter creates the setting for a second chance at love for Darcy and Carter, both are cautious. He's had his heart broken before, a father that abandoned him and his medical debt has stripped him from all financial security. Darcy fiance passed away, she's blaming herself, and she's searching for her biological parents. They are both on the mend from what life threw at them, BUT then they meet each other. It is love at first sight. And while they both realize their love is different... they are both cautious to tell the other about kidney transplants. So what happens when their truth slips out, they find out they haven't been totally honest, and then an even more shocking truth about their transplants threatens to tear their whole possible future apart!

Wonderful, wonderful story! The chemistry between Darcy and Carter was amazing! There was so much love, so much pain, but most of all this is a story of second chances... in LOVE and most of all LIFE after the transplant.
