Darcy is on her way to work to give a presentation after a doctor's appointment when her car refuses to start. Carter is in the same parking lot and tries to help Darcy get her car going to no avail. He calls a tow truck for her and takes her to work. He's intrigued by her and would like to know her better. His sister, whom he lives with, encourages him in that endeavor. When Darcy's car is fixed, he calls her to let her know and somehow gathers the courage to ask her to accompany him for dinner.
Both Darcy and Carter are holding secrets from each other, but little do they know it's the same secret. Only Carter's secret is a bit more convoluted than Darcy's. And it makes all the difference in the world to their relationship.
Amy Clipston is known most for her Amish fiction and her writing here is the same kind of sweetness that she puts into her Amish works. I didn't find the plot to be as compelling as some of her other works. It is a fast read, so that is a point in its favor. I just felt overwhelmed by the "secrets" as they seemed to pervade the whole plot and the relationship between Darcy and Carter. Finding You is a good book for a lazy afternoon. Three and a half stars, rounded up to four.

Amy Clipston's Amish fiction titles remain some of my all time favorites, but I haven't felt quite the same about most of her contemporary titles. While they've all been good, none of them have connected with me on the level that her beautiful Amish titles have. However, that's all changed after picking up Finding You. This heart wrenching but beautiful story was everything I could have ever wanted in a clean romance, and I ended up reading the majority of it one sitting.
It's often obvious to the reader when a certain situation is personal to the author, as it truly feels that they put their heart and soul into that particular story. Amy Clipston is no stranger to kidney donation, and that shines through in this wonderful story that tells of two people falling in love while navigating the ups and downs of kidney disease and successful transplants. I'm not usually a fan of rich, girl boss main characters, and yet Darcy won me over instantly. She has such a big heart for the world around her, and I loved how despite everything she's been given, she's kept herself down to earth, and appreciates Carter for everything he is. Carter is definitely the type of book boyfriend that female readers everywhere are going to fall for, and his and Darcy's romance was both swoon worthy, and authentic, and I loved how so much emphasis was given to needing to work through past hurts and insecurities, and how you can't just find yourself in a happily ever after.
It was an added treat to see mentions of previous places and characters mentioned in some of Amy Clipston's other contemporaries, and I loved how on top of the focus being on kidney donation, there was also a heavy emphasis on adoption and child abandonment. The author did a wonderful job giving proper attention to detail while still remaining respectful about the situations.
Overall, I picked this one up expecting to enjoy it, but I wasn't honestly expecting it to end up being one of my favorite reads of the year. I can't possibly recommend it enough, and the only thing that would have made it even better is if the author had chosen to include a faith element, as I thought it would have blended into this particular storyline so beautifully.
Final Rating: 5/5.
Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to advance read and review this title!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
This is a good story from Amy Clipston. Carter and Darcey have a chance meeting when her car breaks down. Since he is a mechanic, Carter came to her aid. Little do they know how intertwined their lives are. As this story unfolds, secrets that were hidden come to light. This story is about love, second chances, God's intervention and forgiveness. I recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of the book but was not required to leave a review.
This was my first time reading one of Amy Clipston's novels, and I am a fan! I couldn't put this book down and read it in one sitting. I related so much with Carter and Darcy and rooted for them. This book brought me unexpected tears of happiness and joy, and the themes of grief, forgiveness, and loss resonated deeply. What a unique idea to explore the common thread of a life-giving medical procedure bringing two people together. This book is a must-read for your next book club or beach vacation. As a reader, I felt honored to be invited into this story and felt the author cared for my own heart with tenderness/empathy as I journeyed with the characters through the book. Love love love!

"That's the thing about love, man. It changes you. When you find it, your life will be transformed forever. Don't be afraid to let yourself experience it. It happens when you least expect it to."
This such a sweet love story! I love all of Amy's books but this one really did touch my heart. I think it means even more because of how it centers around organ donation. I truly believe that people need to know more about living donation. I absolutely loved how Carter's and Darcy's relationship progressed. They were just the absolute perfect couple. Both of them are afraid of falling in love and getting their heart broken. Darcy is still dealing with the guilt she is feeling after the death of her fiance and Carter is still dealing with the fear of his health issues and financial problems causing the end of another relationship. Miscommunication is actually one of my least favorite book tropes but I did understand why they were both afraid to tell the other about their kidney transplants. But, love happens when you least expect it. Amy did such a great job in dealing with some very weighty subjects like love, grief, adoption, and organ transplantation. I highly recommend all of Amy's books. I really love how relatable her characters are and the sweet storylines.
This is a story about two people from very different backgrounds who both happen to be kidney transplant survivors. Darcy is the adopted daughter of wealthy parents with a good job and great friends. But underneath all that she struggles with feelings of guilt over her fiancee’s death and a sense of not knowing who she is because she doesn’t know where she came from. Carter is a handsome and kind man with a stable job, but he struggles with feelings of inadequacy because of his father’s abandonment when he was a child and because of his financial struggles. Both characters are understandable and easy to care about. I enjoyed following their story and seeing their relationship unfold. Their relationship was full of ups and downs and I found myself crying with them at times. Overall I recommend this book.
This is my honest opinion based on the complimentary review copy sent by NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to give a favorable review.
Finding You by Amy Clipston takes us back to Flowering Grove where we get to spend time with some new favorite characters: Darcy and Carter. They meet in the doctor’s parking lot when Darcy’s car won’t start. A friendship blossoms into something more, but they both have a history of illness that they won’t discuss with each other. Will it come between them? Better read it and find out! You’ll be glad you did!
I have a nephew who has been on at home dialysis for 5 years. It seems it hasn’t been as easy to get a transplant for him..
I did enjoy the book and characters.
Ms Clipston is one of my favorite authors.
Finding You is yet another lovely sweet story from Amy Clipston, who’s fast becoming a go-to author for me. Darcey is struggling to connect after her fiancé died eighteen months ago, collecting medication for her. That’s until a chance encounter with Carter, who is trying to dig himself out of debt after an emergency kidney transplant.
The pair have an instant connection although neither wants to admit their health issues, and Carter doesn’t think he’s good enough for Darcey because she’s from money and he’s a mechanic. But slowly and carefully, new love blossoms, despite hesitancy on both sides. That is, until a shocking discovery implodes their relationship.
There are so many things to enjoy about this story. From the sensitive way organ donation is handled, to the tentative nature of new love after heartbreak, the book is crafted with a deft hand. The way the two are pulled together and the circumstances that allow their feelings to grow is very clever. Then the way the relationship blows up has such an emotional impact, you can tell this is a skilled author. If you want a contemporary romance with all the feels, this one’s definitely recommended.
I received a copy of Finding You from the publisher via NetGalley. The views are my own.
A sweet contemporary romance with some tough issues that are handled beautifully and gracefully. I was drawn to this book because I have been a nurse for more than 25 years and kidney disease was my specialty. It is not common to read books dedicated to this, much less those that are clean and inspirational. Darcy and Carter have similar experiences in the sense that they have both have gone through the challenges of kidney disease, but they have had different journeys and experiences. I love that they had a meaningful friendship and I understand why they were both so hesitant to share their history, but I do wish that part of the story would have happened just a little sooner. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the dialogue and story development. I happily recommend to those who are looking for a clean standalone story with romance and elements of chronic medical issues.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
I love this author and enjoy her books for the "Hallmark" style stories she tells. I know this book is close to her heart because it depicts some real life struggles she has faced, however, this one fell flat for me. I am not a huge fan of miscommunication/no communication tropes and I found myself frustrated for most of the book that the characters could ignore/avoid such a huge portion of their lives while falling in love. Then to have the ending go the way it did felt so unbelievable.
I'm sure some will not find this an issue but for me I'd recommend skipping it.
From beginning to end this is a sweet read that you hope will end the way you want it to.
The author does highlight, from personal experience, kidney transplants! Then throw in some sweet romance, along with some secrets, and you will be page turning for answers.
There is a lot of heartbreak and betrayal here, and obstacles to overcome, or will they. Close held secrets may be their undoing, and we are there to see how everything unfolds!
What a sweet story to get lost in!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.
Amy Clipston is an author I’ve grown particularly fond of in the past year. I find her writing style to be comforting and engaging. 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨 is the first of her non Amish romances that I have read and I found it as pleasing as those. In this book Darcy and Carter meet at difficult points in both their lives. She is well off and counting her blessings while dealing with a profound sense of guilt. He is dealing with heavy financial burdens and doesn’t feel worthy, especially of her. What comes to pass is a beautiful story about finding love and being deserving of that love. I read this one rather quickly because it flowed nicely and was unputdownable. I’m giving 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗬𝗢𝗨 the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
I loved this book. Such a good romantic story, but one that also covered some tough topics. These tough topics were handled well and added to the story. I can't wait to read more from Amy Clipston.
"Finding You" by Amy Clipston is not only a romance where two people find each other, it's a book where two people grow to also deal with many other things happening in their lives. I enjoyed this book that had both sweet and angsty moments about a young man and woman, who both had kidney transplants find each other after a random car breakdown.
This book touches on the personal aspects of organ donation, adoption and family drama - how all of these can change a person's perspective on life and shape the relationships of those around them. The author treats all of these in a caring manner and indicates at the beginning of the story that kidney transplants are something that has affected her personally. I really enjoyed the story and recommend it to fans of modern clean fiction romance stories.

Finding You is a sweet heart-warming book by Amy Clipston. Darsen Larsen has been through a lot in her young life. She survived a kidney transplant but is heartbroken that her fiance was killed tragically. After a checkup with her doctor her car doesn't start and Carter Donovon comes to her rescue. They have different backgrounds. She is educated and comes from a weathy family who adopted her. Carter is a blue collar worker who was raised by a single mother. They have vastly different backgrounds but bond over antique cars. Their relationship has potential if she can get over her deceased fiance and he can get over his feelings of inadequacy. I love that he has a supportive family in his sister and brother-in-law.
Another thing that I liked about this book is I learned something. I never knew about kidney paired donation. The author has drawn from her own experiences with this donation and included it in her book. If you are in need of a kidney and you have someone willing to donate but are incompatible they can still donate to another person and someone else can donate to you.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Darcy meets Carter when her car won’t start just before she’s off to a meeting for work. They don’t exchange numbers but keep meeting and it turns out that Carter went to school with Darcy’s best friend’s boyfriend, Derek.
This is Darcy’s first relationship since the death of her fiancé, Jace who was killed in a car accident. Carter hasn’t been in a relationship since his kidney transplant, his girlfriend dumped him, and in turn, Carter has incurred debt regarding his hospitalization. He’s afraid that Darcy will reject him when she learns about the truth. Darcy hasn’t been upfront with Carter about her kidney transplant as well.
They go around in circles until Carter and Darcy are forced to deal with the secrets they have been holding back from each other. I liked seeing the resolution that Carter eventually had with his father who had abandoned him as a child felt he was a failure and kept projecting that into his present and that was a block for him. Some themes kept coming up and that were love, family, grief, and communication, and I liked that they resolved all the issues affecting their relationship and moved forward. Recommended!
My gratitude to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson. All opinions expressed are mine.
The author has based this book on personal events that have occurred in her life centered around organ donation. Beautifully done, she gives you a look into the thoughts and emotions felt by all.
Health emergencies, financial problems, family complexities, and struggles in both of their lives, makes life more common than either of the main characters, Darcy and Carter, could imagine. Will they be able to overcome these things in their lives to learn to accept each other?
This is a wonderful book you will want to read in one day, as I did, to see how all these things are resolved and if they are able to overcome them. I loved this book and highly recommend it to anyone who loves sweet romance.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction publishers and NetGalley for giving me this advance copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
Haunting and beautiful at the same time. Very emotional read.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advance. reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Such a powerful story! The story has such a personal touch to it as the author is able to weave her own experiences with organ donation into the story. I could feel the depth of the emotions throughout the story!
The characters of Carter, Darcy, Gage, Shauna, Haven and Derek were so memorable. I loved how Carter and Darcy each had their own person who supported them so well. Both of the main characters struggle with their own past and how to move on.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
