What an adorable story! This might be my all time favorite by Amy Clipston, and that’s saying a LOT because I’ve read all of her books. The story is centered around organ donation (specifically kidney donation) which is something deeply personal to the author and it was handled really well. (Her Author’s Note at the beginning was particularly moving.)
I loved both Darcy and Carter. They were perfect for each other and I enjoyed reading from both of their perspectives. Normally I don’t like stories where characters keep things from each other, but in this case, I can totally understand why Darcy wouldn’t share about her kidney transplant with a guy she’s just getting to know. Carter was a sweetheart and a genuinely nice guy. He was kind and supportive. He and Darcy had a lot of fun together but also were able to talk about heavier subjects.
I also really loved the support system each of the characters had. Darcy’s adoptive parents were wonderful people, and I also loved her relationship with Haven, who was a really good friend to her. Carter’s sister and brother in law were very supportive as well and I loved both of them.
It was a beautiful story. I loved every moment of it. Highly recommend.

This was a cute romance with dramatic undertones. While the romance was predictable, their struggles and character development were realistic enough within the unusual plot; (what story has TWO kidney transplant patients?) I could have really liked it, except that I was expecting Christian fiction, (probably because of the publisher,) and there were no Christian elements, none. Just an ounce of Christian forgiveness, even for themselves, would have saved both main characters so much heartache. But the long and short of it was that God wasn't part of the story at all. Oh well. It was a cute, non-Christian love story.

I have read almost every book that Amy Clipston has written and this is by far my favorite contemporary romance she has written!
This book is beautifully written with characters that connect and bond naturally. Carter is a mechanic who has to work through some self-worth issues and Darcy, who is adopted, wonders about her birth parents and is struggling with the death of her fiancé. Both have also dealt with life changing medical issues, and struggle to open up and be honest about this part of themselves. Carter and Darcy’s attraction begins and grows as they get to know each other, and their relationship develops, but can it survive especially when their backgrounds are very different?
Clipston touches on sensitive life-altering medical issues, but with her personal experience is able to write the story with a positive tone.
All of Amy Clipston’s books are great, but this book is amazing!!
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for this ARC. All opinions are my own.
What a beautifully written story!
It began with the authors note. Adding a personal side note on why and how kidney transplants have affected her own life added to the story and made me realize this book was different.
Darcy is recovering from her fiancés death. Life is hard and she hasn’t recovered from this last curveball . Especially because he had died going to get her kidney transplant medications . She just knows that if she had gotten them he would still be with her.
At this point in walks Carter . Or better said Darcy is having an awful day - she has a big presentation at work and her car dies … carter is a mechanic at a local shop and happens to be there at the right time . He offers to fix her car and soon it’s about more than fixing a car.
Carter had a kidney transplant too . The transplant pretty much bankrupted him. He feels that he can’t pursue a long term serious relationship because honestly he’s broke and in debt.
Both keep it a secret from each other about their kidney transplants. It made me wonder if many worry about telling others they have had transplants ?
This was a beautifully written love story with family “drama” (a birth mom, an absent dad returns ) , vulnerability and secrets due to medical problems and Darcy still feeling guilty for her late fiancés death and that he died not her .
Will love win? I think you know the answer but how it comes about is super special .
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Well done , I will read this one again!
This is a feel-good romantic novel. It has loveable characters, with everyday incidents and moves quickly. The author mentions in her note that aspects of the story borrow from personal experience.
Darcy, 27, is moving on after a kidney transplant and the tragic death of her fiancé. She is on her way to work and has an important presentation, but her car does not start. Carter, a stranger, who is nearby helps her. He gets her car towed and drops her to work. He is a car mechanic who works at his brother-in-law’s shop. After that incident, Darcy and Carter run into each other more times. Darcy is an adopted child and wonders about her birth parents. Carter has also had a kidney transplant, has a lot of debt, and stays with his sister and brother-in-law. He and his sister have had a difficult childhood. In this challenging situation, will Darcy and Carter’s relationship develop, especially when their backgrounds are very different.
I liked that there are a nice, limited set of characters and the storyline is simple. All the characters are very loveable, though there is not much novelty in the story.
My rating: 3.75 / 5.
This is a beautifully written, clean romance filled with unexpected circumstances that are life-changing.
Darcy is thankful that after a favorable kidney transplant a few years ago, her check-ups are good. However, she can’t let go of the guilt she carries concerning the death of her fiancé in a car accident when picking up medications for her at a pharmacy. Darcy also is very indecisive, vacillating about starting a search for her birth mother. She was adopted by a loving older couple that she loves and adores. She has had a wonderful life and at 27 years old she and her parents have a loving and solid relationship. She doesn’t want to hurt them; however, she wonders where she came from and who she looks like. Also, is her kidney disease something that could be passed on to any potential future children?
Carter is a handsome mechanic who just happens to be in the parking lot when Darcy’s car doesn’t start. He offers help, and attempts to charge her battery. Instead, he ends up having it towed to the shop he works at. He is still recovering from a difficult break-up, is working to pay off a huge debt resulting in medical expenses and lives with his sister and brother in-law. He hasn’t dated for over a year, since the break-up, and has withdrawn from socializing with many of his friends. He and Darcy seem to have a connection however, and they both feel it.
This is a fascinating, poignant story, as well as somewhat of an emotional experience. Darcy feels a definite connection to Carter, however, despite the connection between them, Carter feels he is not worthy of Darcy, who has graduated from college, has a professional career, wealthy parents and drives a Lexus. His financial situation prohibits much dating anyway.
All the books I’ve read by Amy Clipston have had loveable, relatable characters, and this one is no exception.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.
FINDING YOU by AMY CLIPSTON is an enjoyable romance novel with quite a bit of depth as we follow Darcy and Carter, who have so much in common, in spite of their financial and work situations. This worries Carter more than Darcy.. One of the main things they do have in common, and which they keep from each other, threatens to pull them apart……
Darcy is adopted and is looking for her birth mother, whilst Carter does not want to have anything to do with his father who left them when he was a little boy……
Both Darcy and Carter are delightful characters and it is interesting to watch their growing relationship, wondering which way it will go…..
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. Thw opinions in this review are completely my own.
This is a story about Darcy and Carter and how they connect and why. THIS IS A MUST READ. I will not spoil it. This author writes GREAT READs but this book is AMAZING.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Darcy is enjoying her life after a successful transplant. She meets Carter when her car is not working. I enjoyed the chemistry between Darcy and Carter.
A heartwarming story, beautifully written, with gentle, kind characters, “Finding You”, by Amy Clipston, deals with life-altering medical issues with sensitivity, close knowledge of the subject matter and a positive tone.
I loved Darcy and Carter and the natural way they connect and bond. They both have big hearts and their mutual attraction begins and grows seamlessly.
Carter has doubts about his self-worth, while Darcy is dealing with issues of her own. But they are both kind, thoughtful people.
I liked that the hero is a mechanic and is dealing with some economical limitations and the way the author wrote about this contrast to the heroine’s situation.
I enjoyed watching them doing things together and how their relatives and friends are brought into the story. They are so compassionate and supportive.
Perhaps they both delayed too much the revelation of their secrets but in general they were honest with each other.
I liked how the author wrote about the medical issues and the very choice she made in fictional terms.
While dealing with a sensitive subject this book was a joy and pleasure to read and evokes such positive emotions!
This was beautiful, I loved this love story! The rich characters and I could resonate to their halts struggling and medical bills. One of my romance favorites so far for 2024
