This was so good! I was absolutely hooked the entire time. What an unraveling this was - that epilogue! It's juicy, scandalous, a trainwreck you can't look away from - all while dealing with some dark emotional depth of grief, guilt, mourning, and forgiveness - and brining into question the ethics, morality, and necessity of therapy. Highly recommend!

An unexpected and fabulous story from Vi Keeland! I've been a fan and this story just made me love this author's work even more. I loved it!

This was good, don't get me wrong. It was well written, it actually gave me colleen hoover type vibes. But the ending confused me, unless there's gonna be another book? And then it did drag at times I found myself skimming the pages and I was actually a little disappointed with the way things wrapped up with Gabriel. But then maybe I've read too many dark romances and was hoping for a redemption and a HEA.

This is definitely more of a thriller, with a "You" type feel to it and some very good smut 👀, it was a tad predictable (for me, but then I'm good at figuring out twists) and I definitely feel like the author gave us some false hope for meredith and gabriel 🫣

I wanted to love this one after so many good reviews but sadly it did not work for me. I found the main character to be extremely pathetic and honestly just annoying. Her character just didn't make sense to me - she is an educated medical doctor yet had no ethics/morals and just kept making the same mistakes repeatedly. I also found the language to be repetitive - lines like "I shouldn't have buried my head in the sand," "I know better" or "I shouldn't do this but I'm not strong enough to say no" felt like they were on repeat through the entire book. The twists with Rebecca towards the end were also too much for me too. I think I just don't like thrillers that rely on women being dumb or basket cases - we can have smart, strong women in thrillers and still have a story. Give the women in your book some dignity! The one twist at the end (pad thai) was good but not enough and too many questions went unanswered. Sadly this one was a miss for me.

A very messy convoluted plot that eventually started to make sense about 25% of the way into reading.
It was a pulsating read but I kept shaking my head through most of it.
Meredith brought most of her own troubles after her husband’s death and her obsessive behavior.
I didn’t really feel much sympathy for her for that reason.
Gabriel was a piece of work.
I liked Sarah the best because she was steady and solid.

Thank you to NetGalley, Atria Books, and Vi Keeland for an advanced copy of this book.

I would say for the first 70%, this was a dramatic/(very weak) dark romance book trying to disguise itself as a thriller. Thrilling it was not. A majority of things I saw coming, and the things I didn’t still didn’t seem to satisfy me in the end. If this had stronger thriller/mystery/suspense aspects to it, I would’ve really enjoyed it because the concept of the book (psychiatrist stalks the man who’s family died because of her dead husband who then becomes her patient) is very interesting, even with the romance sprinkled in there. I think Vi Keeland mostly writes romances, so I’m looking forward to reading some of those by here, because the way the romantic aspects of this book were written were done well, so I think that might be her forte.

I loved this book. My big disclaimer is that I work in the medical field and I’m very familiar with medical ethics, particularly in psychiatry. I will say that this book essentially broke all ethical rules, but it was still incredibly enjoyable for me to read.
Ever since “You” by Caroline Kepnes I’ve been constantly searching for a new book about stalkers and obsession. This book definitely satisfied that craving for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria publishing for the ARC of this novel.

Meredith has spent years as a psychiatrist building her practice. She’s excelling at her career and planning to start a family with her husband. Suddenly there is a horrific accident and her world crumbles around her. Two years later she is struggling to move on and get her life back together. She runs into Gabriel at a coffee shop. She is taken with his charisma and charm. He seems so happy and successful despite his life being turned upside down by the same accident as Mer.

Meredith can’t seem to control her impulses and she becomes obsessed with this man. This book is compulsively readable. I wondered what was going to happen because it seemed that Meredith was making some really questionable decisions.

You will like this book if you like a steamy dark “romance” with Elements of stalking and obsession.

Thank you to netgalley for a copy of this book.

Dear Vi Keeland... Please continue to write in this genre. I loved the well-drawn characters and the intriguing premise. You had me guessing throughout the pages. Not to mention, that the twists and turns gave me whiplash. I'm counting the minutes until your next page-turner.

Well, Vi Keeland really can write anything! This was really good. The main characters weren't particularly likable. Everyone was a mess. But, I can tell you I was riveted from the very beginning. The past was definitely more interesting in the beginning and I needed to find out what had transpired then. The present got a little boring in parts with all the therapy sessions. I pushed through and the final chapter of the story, particularly that final line messed with me! I finished this book almost a week ago and still can't get it out of my head. You should definitely pick this one up. Hold on til that final chapter when that crazy twist is revealed and you will not regret it! I look forward to more thrillers from this author.

If you like the show, You, you’ll like this book. If you liked, The Silent Patient, you’ll probably also like this book. It keeps you guessing the entire time, and has twists that I wasn’t expecting.

4 stars!

After a heartbreaking loss, NYC psychiatrist Meredith McCall becomes obsessed with Gabriel Wright, a man she tragically connected with. When Gabriel unknowingly becomes her patient, Meredith faces a moral dilemma but can't turn him away. As she gets more entangled, her life and career spiral out of control. The situation goes from bad to worse, keeping you on the edge of your seat till the very end!

Bravo, Vi Keeland! This was an amazing debut in a new genre for her, and I was completely captivated. As someone who has devoured every one of her romance novels, I was curious to see how she would handle a mystery thriller. Let me just say, she didn’t disappoint!

I’ve loved all the books I’ve read by this author, and when I saw that she was venturing into a genre I’m addicted to, I couldn’t contain my excitement. This story delivered everything I hoped for: intense emotions, complex characters, and a plot that had me hooked from the very first page. Her writing style is perfect for this genre, it's fast-paced, addictive, and impossible to put down.

I hope she writes more books in this genre!

I loved this pacey and suspenseful read. It was so interesting to read about a stalker who is also a therapist, and I love love loved the cat-and-mouse game between her and her patient/stalkee. I can't say much without giving anything away, but the plot is an artfully done web of connections and designs, and I was so invested.

Grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc! Definitely recommend for lovers of suspenseful stories with psychologist or stalker angles.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Vi Keeland. I haven’t read anything by her recently, but I used to read her books a lot. I was excited to try out her first thriller. It was.. interesting lol It didn’t immediately hook me like other thrillers tend to do. I was curious enough to keep reading, but it didn’t have my attention right away. I got more interested when Meredith started stalking Gabriel and then of course becoming his therapist. I thought she was nuts for doing this. I felt like the romance portion was a little forced. I wasn’t sure why they liked each other beyond physical attraction. Maybe that’s all it was. I got super into the story once the Verizon store revelation happens. Pretty sure I finished the book after that. Once I finished the book, I feel like I still had some questions. Not exactly plot holes, but I definitely wanted more explanations on certain parts. Or even confirmation about what we are led to believe happened. Overall, I enjoyed my first thriller by Vi Keeland! It didn’t immediately hook me, but it had me in the middle and right up to the end. I did feel like I wanted more explanation, but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Lord almighty this book was so addicting!

I was pulled immediately into the world Vi Keeland set out for me, and kept on edge for the entire thing. I loved the dark, twisty themes. I loved the cat and mouse chase. I loved that you didn't even really know who was good and who was bad until the very end.

Did I see the ending coming? Maybe a little bit. But not necessarily in the way it happened. And regardless, I was invested - so I was held in thrall until the very last page. There were moments that made me downright uncomfortable. There were moments that caused me to hold my breath not knowing what was coming. It was compulsively readable and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Meredith McCall’s life in unraveling. A year after a terrible accident changed her life forever, she’s struggle to cope, to find a new normal, to be a healthy functioning adult. Just when she should be turning a corner, rebuilding her NYC psychiatry practice, Gabriel Wright shows up as a patient - Gabriel Wright whose life was dramatically changed by the same accident. They’re already intertwined but does he know that? And how will Meredith the guilt, self punishment and forbidden attraction?
Vi Keeland will keep readers guessing until the very last sentence and you won’t be disappointed by this twisty, sexy psychological thriller.
