Thank you to Atria Books, Netgalley and Vi Keeland for the ARC!

After losing her husband, psychiatrist Meredith McCall is ready to return to work and attempt to put her life back together. When she crosses paths with a man named Gabriel Wright, with whom she shares a tragic connection, she develops an unhealthy obsession with him. But then things get even more complicated when Gabriel walks into her office one day, as a new patient. He doesn’t seem to know who Meredith is, so would it really be so unethical for her to treat him? She thinks its fate that brought him to her and maybe she can help him.

What a wild and crazy ride of a book! I truly didn't know which way was up and who was who in this story - and I mean that in the best way possible! The pacing of this book was fast and the short chapters kept me reading late into the night - it was simply impossible to put down! Told in dual timelines, Meredith’s life with her late husband is explained as she deals with Gabriel in the present. How do you become obsessed with the person your husband helped destroy? It was just truly a psychological thriller at its finest - entertaining and twisty, it gets all the stars from me.

The title made perfect sense too, as Meredith’s life was spinning out of control by the end. As everyone’s sanity was called into questioning, I never saw the final twist coming. It’s hard to believe this is Vi Keeland’s first thriller, because it was just SO well done! I hope she writes more thrillers because she is very good at it!

This made for a really fun journey watching Meredith slowly unravel, thank goodness it's fiction. Meredith begins behaving as if a stalker, following the man whom her husband has drastically changed his life. Meredith is interested in all the things about Gabriel, where he eats, where he lives, when he wakes up, how his work is going etc.

But then things take an unexpected turn for Meredith and I thoroughly enjoyed my time as if a fly on the wall in her life.

That said, I don't think this will be for everyone, it became a bit abrasive for me at times giving me CoHo vibes of Verity. I mean, it is titled Unraveling and that is certainly what I got.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria books for this gifted e-book.

The Unraveling, Vi Keeland’s latest book, is a psychological thriller, which is a departure from Keeland’s usual romances. We meet Meredith, a NYC psychiatrist, who has just experienced a shocking & terrible loss. The story jumps from the now to then for a good majority of the story, until we’re just in current time and see Meredith in some cringeworthy secondhand embarrassment moments with Gabriel, whom she shares a tragic connection with.

Based off the synopsis of this book, I was expecting a much darker book. There are some unexpected twists and I enjoyed reading Gabriel’s POV.

Overall even though I was expecting more of a thriller, it’s a quick read, which I enjoyed. I would read another psychological thriller by Vi Keeland.

I love thrillers and mysteries, but I often guess the twists before the big reveal. That was not the case with this one! The last chapters kept me on my toes, and I felt myself spiraling alongside the main character. 🥅 🧠 ✍️

This is one of my favorite thrillers that I’ve read this year. Definitely check this out if you enjoy psychological thrillers with complicated characters behaving badly.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for gifting me a digital copy of the debut thriller by Vi Keeland. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4.5 stars rounded up!

NYC psychiatrist Meredith McCall is struggling with all the events surrounding the death of her husband. When a man walks into her office that looks familiar, she finds herself crossing all her personal and ethical lines.

That's a short and sweet synopsis but I think you are best going into this one as blind as possible. This story pulled me in from the beginning, with multiple timelines and an unreliable narrator. The therapy sessions were intriguing, and I really felt for Meredith's mindset. Yes, she veered off into questionable behavior, but who could blame her? There were plenty of twists and turns but that last paragraph had me gasping! As a romance writer, this one has some steamy scenes, but this is a wonderful psychological thriller that has me anxiously awaiting more from this author.

I read this in 2 sitting.....mom life.....but last night i stayed up until 1am to finish it. It was so good and it got me until the very end! Just when i thought it was done, my jaw dropped at the last sentence. Not many books do that to me. This was everything! Fantastic work on this story!

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback.

This book was an absolute RIDE! The beginning of this story follows a young married couple - Meredith and Connor. Meredith is a psychiatrist and Connor is a hockey player. An accident happens to Connor during a hockey game which causes the relationship to become strained.

A tragic event happens to Connor which causes heartbreak not to just Meredith but another young family. Meredith then gets caught up with this man named Gabriel who lost his wife and young child. A unhealthy obsession begins to form as you continue to read how Meredith and Gabriel lives entwine.

The last 25% of this book had me going through a whole bunch of emotions and I had to keep reading to find out how the cat and mouse game ended. The last sentence of the book completely shocked me.

I enjoyed this story from the start to finish. Vi Keeland is now an auto buy author of mine.

This book was AMAZING! I was so hooked and could not put it down. It was unique and kept me at the edge of the seat. There were so many jaw dropping moments. I would love to read more thrillers from this author. Highly recommend this thriller of 2024!! Was one of my favorite thrillers in awhile

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for the eARC.

This book follows some of the absolute worst characters of all time. Truly I disliked all of them, except for Sarah and Robert. Everyone is selfish, everyone is making bad choices, and everyone is hurting.

I semi predicted parts of this book but did find myself struggling to put it down. I just really had a hard time enjoying it with my dislike of every character.

3.5 stars.

This was such a quick read! Not only is the story about obsession but it will make you feel obsessed. I could not put this one down and I had to know what was going to happen. What a crazy story full of twists and turns and quite a few cringe moments if I do say so. I loved the dual timelines where we were figuring out what exactly happened to lead Meredith down the path she found herself on. The last chapter too was a jaw dropping moment. And I knew Gabriel was a creep lol! Overall I really enjoyed this one and would definitely recommend it!

I received this as an arc from NetGalley and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Oh my goodness, what did I just read? This book blew my mind completely. It is not the type of book I normally gravitate towards but I love the author so I knew I had to read it. And I’m so glad I did. My mind is still spinning from all the twists of the story but I will be keeping my review spoiler free. But it was the best book I’ve read all year and maybe even the best book I have ever read.

Blindsiding, jaw dropping suspense

When Vi Keeland announced she was writing something completely different to the contemporary romances she is known for, I just knew I was going to have to read it. THE UNRAVELING is a psychological suspense thriller which kept me on the edge of my seat. The twists and turns had me constantly reassessing the outcome, my would go in one direction and then Ms. Keeland would throw another fork in the road, and my direction would turn elsewhere. Every turn of a page led me to being blindsided, my jaw dropping to the floor and my heart erratically beating.

Meredith McCall is a psychologist whose life is literally unraveling after tragedy strikes. All rationality has left her when she believes she can fix a wrong caused by her husband. Gabriel Wright's life is destroyed when his family is taken from him in a tragic accident. Seeking help Gabriel attends Meredith's practice for an appointment, to say Meredith is shocked by his appearance is an understatement, but feeling both intrigued and conflicted, she can't turn him away. So begins a game of cat and mouse filled with deceit, secrets, and plenty of suspense.

THE UNRAVELING was a riveting read from beginning to end. A fast paced, addictive, all consuming read I couldn't put down. Vi Keeland has written a masterpiece and I can only hope she will continue to write more in this genre. Most definitely a book NOT TO BE MISSED.

4.5 stars! This book is fantastic! It's full of tragedy, guilt, mind games, forbidden desire and longing, suspense, sexual tension and more. Everyone has issues! Psychiatrist, Meredith McCall, is trying to cope with a huge personal loss. And it just so happens that one of her new patients, Gabriel Wright, is also dealing with catastrophe that is connected to her loss. She is drawn to him because he seems happy, but how can that be? As we learn more about the characters through Meredith's eyes, things seem more and more intertwined. Who is innocent and who is keeping secrets? How dangerous are the people around Meredith? Is she just paranoid or is something more going on? This story is super twisty up until the end. I loved the emotional and physical thrills. I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books/Emily Bestler Books for the digital ARC.

The Unraveling
By: Vi Keeland
Publisher: Atria Books
Pub Date: 7/9/24

Wow! Just wow! This is a new author for me, it also happens to be her first thriller.
Meredith, a NYC psychiatrist is living her life with her hockey playing husband and growing her practice. Until unbelievable tragedy strikes and her whole world comes crashing down. Her husband is killed in an accident where he also kills a mother and child. All while high on a pain script that he wrote to himself from her prescription pad. She not only loses her husband but her practice for a time as well. With her life in shambles she begins to walk the streets of the city. Trying to stay awake and keep going she goes for coffee and bumps into Gabriel Wright, the one person who she shares her tragedy with. Only he’s laughing and smiling, she wants to know his secret. How is he so ok and she can hardly get through the day? She starts following him but soon after her own therapist guides her to a healthier path. When her suspension is up she returns to her practice things seem to be getting better until Gabriel walks in for an appointment. The story unfolds right before your eyes and is so good you can’t put it down.
May I suggest you find something solid to hold on to cause it’s going to be a wild ride! I was lucky enough to receive a physical ARC of this one from Atria so I’d like to thank them as well as Vi Keeland and NetGalley. It was an incredible read!

This rating really bothers me. I was sooooo looking forward to this book. Unfortunately, I just did not like it. It wasn't exciting or twisty. It felt rather slow. I needed to force myself to finish this book. (in hopes that it would pick up and surprise me. It did not.)

I don't really understand Meredith and Gabriel or feel their connection. The added steamy scenes to this seemed unnecessary.

This book felt like it was trying to be like so many other psychological thrillers and I found it very predictable. It was just okay for me and lacking any spark.

Thank you to Atria Books for the advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

📚: The Unraveling by Vi Keeland
⭐️: 4.5/5 (rounding down on #goodreads)

The gist: After a life-shattering loss, Meredith finds herself in the throes of grief. With a chance encounter from afar with Gabriel Wright, she finds herself drowning in obsession as she fixates on the trauma that ties them together.

The good: Excuse my language but holllllllyyyyy shit. My jaw is still on the floor from the last page. 👀👀👀

An impressive first psychological thriller from Keeland after a decade of romance books. (And with that came just a little bit of spice in this book that was done well.) I absolutely devoured this and even after all the thrillers I’ve read, my mind is spinning at that last chapter. (Seriously 🤯)

The eh: While I love the name choice, Meredith has just a couple too many moments where I wanted to say out loud, “my god, stop being such a martyr!” I also wish one small subplot line had found some kind of resolution as it felt like it was left hanging.

A big thanks to @atriabooks & Emily Bestler Books via @netgalley for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Unraveling is out next Tuesday 7/9!

4/4.5 STARS

I have been reading the romance novels of Vi Keeland for over a decade. I was very excited when I found out she was writing a thriller. I’m here to tell you that she hit it out of the park with this crafty page turner.

Meredith McCall is a psychiatrist living in New York City who is trying to put her life back together after a terrible tragedy. A chance encounter with Gabriel Wright, a man who shares this devastating tragedy, will spark an intense obsession where morals, values and ethics will be challenged. As Meredith tries to help Gabriel, lines become blurred and perplexing questions begin to unfold.

The Unraveling had me hooked from page one and I read this entire book in 24 hours. I could not put it down. This book is addictive, twisty, steamy and completely engrossing. The last chapter gave me chills. Sign me up for more thrillers from Vi Keeland.

Thanks @Kaceey for this recommendation, I was not disappointed. Loved this!!

A Psychiatrist loses her husband to the throws of addiction. He ends up doing the unthinkable, which forces our protagonist into a tail spin of what if's. Then Gabriel; a new patient steps in and s*** hits the fan as she crosses lines that were set in place for a reason. Only Gabriel too may have his own agenda from the word GO! A twisting cat and mouse game that will keep you guessing who to trust and who's out for BLOOD!
